Janey had managed to get away from her house. Her cousin Hetty was annoying her again. The way she acted with her brother made Janey think they could almost be a couple. Of course Janey wouldn't say it but Hetty seemed to be a little bit of a show off in her opinion, always craving attention.
It was a nice day and Janey had walked off to the local park. She'd been suprized to find it empty, and so took a seat inside the small "house" that was just a few walks under the climbing frame that contained a bench beside a window. Janey likes to come here. Since living with so many people put a strain on privacy, it was enjoyable to sit alone for a while. On her lap she had a book, and a sketchbook. Janey wasn't a very good drawer, however it helped her to get away from everything such as the stress of family life. She may have just been eleven years old, but she couldn't help thinking she was one of the maturist of her family, as the others seemed totally obsorbed in themselves. The young girl could have fun too no doubt, and she often would around friends. She was secretly excited in attending Hogwarts, as she would finally be around people her own age, rather than those who were older than her, and who felt could boss her around. She opened her book on the small wooden bence beside her, and began to colour in a drawing she'd done the day before, relaxing into her surroundings, as the sun poured through the little window onto her page.

(OOC: Some of this post is part of another topic i've been in, so sorry if you see it somewhere else :p )

Jasmine, or Jaz as she preferred to be called, walked through the park, looking around as she did so. She felt different, as if something big was going to happen today. But, for such a shy person, anything that happened was big. At the moment, everything seemed like a whirlwind, surrounding her, engulfing her, and teaching her new things. Since she had been little, she had always known that she was from a magical family. Her parents, both magical had also been to HNZ and the prospect of it all made her feel dizzy. Now, for the first time in her life, she was able to break free from the restraints of her family, and break into the world. Finally, she was able to be free. So, as she walked, Jaz looked around the park, seeing things in a different light. The flowers didn't seem so bland, but the colour hidden inside seemed to burst out - free and open. Like a flower, Jaz found herself thinking back to her family. So, being mostly pure-blooded except for their grandfather, sadly, her family had also inherited the gene of being stuck up and rude. As Jaz had grown up in this culture, many of her friends had expected her to be the same. What they didn't know was that she wasn't. No, pushed back by her family, she had retreated into her own shell, becoming a quiet and insignificant person in the lives of everyone she knew. The family was fairly well known and this pressure made her feel scared. The shyness that made her who she was, had mainly been encouraged by her older brother. Loud mouthed and full of himself, he shunned Jaz away as she turned to him to find some love and care, something to make her feel like she truly belonged in the family. They pushed her away, believing that she wasn't strong enough to class as a proper Smith and therefore, treated as an outsider. A stranger living in the same home as the rest of them.

As she walked through park, she saw a girl who looked about her age sitting in a small shelter. Walking over nervously, Jaz hovered at the entrance for a second, waiting to see whether she would be accepted in or whether she would have to leave. Not being confident enough to charge in and start a conversation with the girl, she decided to check for wanted conversation or not. To be honest, it didn't bother Jaz that much either way. After all, she was shy herself and didn't delve into conversation unless invited. Unlike some people she knew. Sighing as thoughts of her family pushed themselves back into her mind, she smiled shyly, watching the girl colour a drawing. It was good from the angle that Jaz was standing at, but having never been an artist herself, she couldn't judge it. Pushing a lock of her hair behind her ear, she waited patiently for the girl to notice her and start the conversation. It had been said before, Jaz didn't have a way with words.

Janey was colouring, and dreaming about life about Hogwarts. How she could sit in her dormatory and look out across the lake, or how she could get involved with groups and clubs, and how it would be so much more fun than lounging around at home. Prehaps she could even stay for the holidays too. All of a sudden, the light of the sun on the paper was blocked a little, a Janey looked up to see a young brunette standing in the doorway. Where had she come from? she thought, so sure that the park had been empty just a few minutes ago. She lifted herself up, and put her sketchbook on her lap instead, creating space beside her incase the girl wanted to come in. Janey wasn't one to make pureposful trouble.

When the girl continued to stand there and not say anything, Janey looked up again, curiously as to whether she was looking for company. "Are you alright?" she asked her, wondering why she'd been watching her draw. "You can come in if you want" she added, giving her a small but sweet smile. Janey had never been someone to intimidate anyone else, and the thought of it wasn't that pleasant.

Josefiina Helkovaara, was out of place in New Zealand. She was a nordic girl. Albeit she didn't have all the nordic traits but her skin was naturally as pale as snow, and her eyes were of a clear blue colour. Some of the traits she did hold, but they were quiet. She didn't have the bleach blonde hair like her mother had. For, Josefiina took more after her father than anyone else in her family. But, she was no longer with her father. New Zealand was the country she now had to reside in. Had to live in. It wasn't something she enjoyed, and her hatred for English was one, that it actually made it difficult for her to learn it. She knew a few words, but most of the time, the girl spent muttered Finnish curse words under her breath. Something her mother approved very little off. But, Josefiina found it difficult to listn to her, when she had given up everything they'd had in Helsinki and switched it for New Zealand. It wasn't something that Josefiina saw as something good. She was stuck in a country that was too warm in winter, and roostingly hot in summer. Back home, Josefiina was used to being able to put up with the mounds of snow, that plagued the entire winter season. And she was used to summers that were just warm enough. But here where she was now, it just did not feel like home. It was far far from it. It was a completely different place. Nothing was the same. And more to that, the people around her, were not always the friendliest. Her classmates at her muggle private school, did not like the way Josefiina stared into space, and still managed to do as well, and sometimes better than the rest of them. Despite the language barrier. But, Josefiina was ahead of the rest of them. Back at her old school, she'd done what they were doing the year before. It felt silly have to repeat what she already knew but, in the long run it did not matter. She wasn't going to have to worry about anything like that at the end of the school term. She was going to be going to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, New Zealand. And their it would be a lot easier. It would be a lot better. Learning about something that she knew little about. it made her interested. It got her fairly excited. And she was glad to be excited. Everything in her life had been pretty rocky so far, Hogwarts would be the light at the end of the tunnel, allowing her to take a step forward and just accept the fate that awaited her. If she would be the best witch of her time, or if she'd flunk out and just be one of the pack. Either way, the young finnish girl was excited and nervous to be attending.

It was a fairly pleasant day, And Josefiina was out walking by herself. Both of her parents were doing something that day, and neither had time to take care of Josefiina, so Josefiina had decided to go out. Wander around the park in the hope of meeting someone new. Someone that could talk to her or someone she could talk to. It wasn't that hard, she was sure that there would be someone for her to talk to. She knew she had to try to improve her english. It was the first step into improving how things were in this country. There was no way she was leaving in any case. Her mum and step father would not hear of it. Josefiina cared little for what they thought was best for her. Helsinki was her home. And it would always be that. They could say nothing to change that fact. She walked past the play park, and noticed two girls, one sitting in a form of shelter and one standing outside. Josefiina was a fairly confident girl, but she didn't want to intrude on anything. But She was bored and if these girls didn't want her their, she could just leave. Josefiina brushed down her clothes and fixed her hair. She wanted to make a good first impression. "Hei" She spoke in Finnish, nearing the two girls. Although then remembering that the two girls weren't finnish she shook her head and then stopped when she was in front of them. "Hi, Mind If I join?" Her english was fairly poor, with her finnish accent making her voice soft, but she figured the girls might have difficulty understand what she'd said. If she asked her to repeat it, Josefiina would speak more slowly, and really try with her words. But, she smiled at the two girls, really hoping for some new friends

Jasmine smiled nervously at the girl again as she spoke. Nodding to the first question, she responded to the next statement by entering the shelter and sitting down in the space provided. As she sat down, the brunette looked across at the girl who was colouring. Not wanting to intrude anything personal, she sat there and watched, leaving a loud echo of silence to fill the space. Hugging her knees to her chest, Jaz hardly took up any space at all. She had inherited her mothers smallness and it fitted her personality, never wanting to stand out. As she sat there, the silence hanging around like a mist, she looked up to see another girl approaching. Frowning slightly at the first word, Jaz realised it must be foreign and the following statements proved this by the thick but soft accent. Smiling a little, she turned quickly to look at the girl who had invited her in, leaving the decision to her. So far, she had got away without saying anything, the way she normally was with strangers. But there was something about these two girls that made her realise that sooner or later she would have to say something.

(OOC: Sorry for the lame post.)

Janey smiled as the girl walked in, and the room filled with an awequad silence and nether girl spoke for a moment. What did break it however was another voice, that had made its way through the park, and belonged to a girl that stood at the entrance. Janey looked up to her, and smiled as she spoke. It was obvious she was not from around these areas, however Janey couldn't quite put her finger on where she was from. "Of course. Take a seat" she replied to her, trying to talk clearly in case she wasn't that good at understanding the English accent yet.
Janey was pleased that a couple of people had thought Janey looked friendly enough to approach, and she didn't want to scare them away by staring at ether of them, and so faced the majority of her attention to her sketchbook, where she continued to draw a picture that vagley resembled the park they were sitting in. It even had their faces in a small window underneath the slide.
"Do you both live around here?" she asked, starting up a chat between them so that they didn't have to sit here wondering about each other. She was curious as she'd never seen ether girl before. She'd only lived here for a little while, but she knew a few people that caught her eye every now and then. Prehaps they were just visitors of this place? Maybe they were visiting family, and after this visit, they'd never see each other again.

As it was the only two people that she'd found around her age in the entire park, Josefiina was pretty much set on having them be friends. She a was a pretty determinded person. It was the Helkovaara trait. Both her and any on her father's side had the trait. It was a good trait, and Josefiina found it helped in both school and just in the every day. It helped since she never really gave up, and giving up was a pretty bad trait. She gave a small glance into the shelter and smiled at the two girls. One girl seemed a lot more shy than the other. But as one girl said she could sit down, Josefiina smiled and took a seat. She was fairly small for her age. She had yet to grow a few more inches. Which was nothing that Josefiina thought she couldn't do. In fact the girl was pretty certain that she would be able to grow in the next few years. She looked round the small area and noticed that the girl who'd replied had a sketch pad. Josefiina was not good at drawing and she did not pretend to be, but she enjoyed looking at art. Her father had been an arhitect, and Josefiina had always loved staring at the different designs that he'd created. It was just a side passion of her father. Josefiina looked at the girl that had invited her in, just as she spoke asking them, if were from around there. It was clear that her accent had not gone unnoticed. It was hard for it to not go unnoticed, since she didn't know much english at all. And it was very clear. "I life 10 minutes away. I move 'ere in October, from Helsinki." Josefiina said with her usual Finnish accent, but with a friendly tone none the less. She hoped that the girls also lived close by. It would be useful to have friends who lived nearby, insteead of just the ones that were at her school. Obviously at the end of the year, she would not be able to still be friends with them since she was off to a magical boarding school, and there was no way of knowing if these two girls were also going to be their. She thought it was fairly difficult to tell if a person was a witch, there were no signs and the only real way of telling, was she figured by waiting to see if they would turn up at school in the next year. She looked round at both girls once again. "I'm Josefiina" She introduced, "I am from Finland." She added, then waiting for the two other girls to answer.

Another small smile crossed Jasmine's face as the other girls started conversation. Sighing inwardly at the thought of having to talk a lot, she just gave a short reply. "Yes. My family live in Wellington." She said, her voice nothing more than a whisper that was nearly lost in the breeze outside. Not only was she incredibly shy, but she also didn't enjoy making conversation. Especially not around people who wanted to pry into her private life. But, there seemed to be something different about these two girls, the sort of people that wanted to talk because they cared rather than just wanted to talk for the sake of it. As the other girl, the second one to arrive, began to speak, Jaz turned to face her and listen, nodding quickly at the girls name and smiling at her accent. Jaz had always wanted an accent, always wanted something to be unique and something that she could be proud of. But no, she was just a normal New Zealander, the type of person that wouldn't be specially picked out of a crowd for something. Then again, she wouldn't want to be picked out, but that wasn't the point. The point was that it would be nice to have something. And now she did. She was a witch, a girl who could turn to magic now to escape, to find her place in life. And Hogwarts could finally let her. Now that it had been proved she was a witch, there was something. As the thoughts of her 'gift' crossed her mind, she turned to the other girls, wondering whether they also could do magic. Perhaps not, but they could be friends right? Hoping that the answer would be the affirmative, she just smiled and nodded in acknowledgement of the given name. "Im Jasmine." She said, her voice a little louder as the thoughts of friends pushed her onwards into getting along with these two. The last thing that she wanted was to be left out, the other two to go off for the day and leave her alone because she was shy. For that reason alone she could make an effort. And after all, her elder brother wasn't there to tease her and mock her way of attempting to make friends. No, and if it lasted for one day, then so be it. She could make some friends. At last.

Janey smiled and listened as Josefiina explained where she was from. Finland. That made sense of the accent. Janey hadn't been to many other countries except New Zealand, and couldn't pick up on different accents just yet. "I live just around the corner from here" she said, wondering if she knew what she meant. "Just a few minutes away" she added, turning to the first girl, Jasmine. Janey had heard to Wellington too, but had never visited. "Have you come here to visit then?" she asked her, hoping this wouldn't be the only time they'd be able to see each other. Janey knew when she started school she wasn't going to be able to see any of her new friends again anyway, but making them now wouldn't hurt. "I'm Janey by the way. Janey Pascot" she added, realizing she hadn't even introduced herself yet. Her sketchbook was still on her lap, and she caught Josefiina looking at it upside down. She paused for a moment before asking them both, "Do you like to draw?" and turning her sketchbook so that Josefiina could see better. She was a little suprized to find people interested in what she did. Janey had such a large family now, no one really noticed her anymore. She wasn't a great artist at all, but there was no harm in trying. It was a nice day, and Janey was pleased to get away from the house. The way her cousin was acting with her brother, anyone would think they were a couple. It made her feel queezy. Putting Hetty and Claus aside, she realized that next year both of them would be joining Hogwarts. The very thought of that was horrible. Janey just hoped they didn't end up in the same house as her. Maybe her other brother would be though?

Jasmine smiled and nodded. Wellington wasn't far from where they currently were and her family were on holiday, for a reason that she didn't understand. "Yes, we're on holiday for a few weeks." She began, cutting herself off before she could mention something to do with Hogwarts New Zealand. The girls didn't seem different, but then again, neither did anyone else. And Jaz would be in such big trouble if she ended up telling some muggles about magic. Sighing inwardly at the restriction that it placed on her small conversation, she turned her head away. A small silence fell and she only looked up when the sketch book was shown and the question asked. Bringing her feet up onto the bench, she rested her chin on her knees and turned to face the sketch book. Finally finding the confidence to comment without it being a direct question to her, she shook her head. "No. I can't draw very well, but i like looking at art. Its really good." She commented, smiling at her new acquaintance who she hoped that one day she could call a friend. The girls didn't seem to push her to talk, and made her feel comfortable. Oh how it would be so much easier if the two girls could be magical and go to Hogwarts with her. It would be amazing to have friends already when she arrived, but there was no way of finding out until the sorting happened.

It was never really that clear to the Finnish girl when she spoke in Finnish that she had an accent. but, her english tutor had been constantly reminding her that she had a very distinct Helsinki accent and that was how, before Josefiina had even told her where she was from. It wasn't exactly what she thought was completely true, but, the brunette had long learned to not have a go at her professors. They knew best after all, and her mother was at breaking point with her. Josefiina knew she had to learn english for Magical school, but her learning it so slowly was all part of elaborate scheme to get herself out of going to Hogwarts New Zealand, and instead being transferred up to Durmstrang, to a country she knew and to a climate she knew. Josefiina didn't not necessarily hate New Zealand, but her heart lay with her roots in the far north of the world. Where her pale skin and blue eyes were much more a normality. But, she had to remind herself that she was with two New Zealand girls, and they could be friends. The quieter of the two was called Jasmine and the other Janey. And while Josefiina knew that she would have a few problems pronouncing Janey's name, Jasmine on the other hand, was a name she actually knew and one she could say in a very Finnish accent. It was one of the favourite words people liked to here Josefiina say, and she had never really been too sure why. "Good to met you, Janey, and Jasmine" The finnish accent rolling pleasantly off her tongue. She pronounced Janey, more like Chaney, and Jasmine more Yasmean. Odd, but she could be forgiven considering her roots. Josefiina smiled, before Janey spoke again. The art she was drawing, it was pretty. But, she let the other girl speak first. Since she'd learned to help the slightly quieter people always have their say. It helped, she'd heard. "I am bad drawer. I like the look. It is pretty" Josefiina said. "I much prefer sports. Ice Hockey." josefiina nodded. She was a girly girl in looked, but when she played any sport, she turned and was about as tom boyish and brutal as most would be.

Janey smiled as they said their work was good, and she closed her book and tucked it down the side of the bench before reaching for her bag. Just a few days ago it had been her birthday, and one of the things she'd been given were a little pack of bertie botts. Taking the pack out of her hand, and being carful not to give away the packaging, she offered the others what appeared to be a normal jellybean, before taking a green one herself. "Careful" she warned. "There's more flavours in this packet than a regular one" she added. As Jasmine said she was on holiday for a few weeks, Janey thought how she wouldn't actually be able to talk to the girl for very long then, seeing as she was likely to disspear. "I've never tried Ice Hockey" she said back to Josefiina, who'd suprized her a little. Janey had seen the game played on the television, but never for real. "How long have you been playing?" she asked, helping herself to another red jellybean. It was chilli. As her eyes began to water, she had to keep a straight face. "I ejoy Gynastics. It's something i've been doing since I was very small" she said, looking up at Jasmine as if to ask what her favourite sport was.

Jasmine listened to the conversation in peace, enjoying the sound of the other two and their voices. They seemed naturally happy to chat and that left Jasmine where she felt comfortable - interjecting when asked but still being able to be there and chat. With a smile she accepted the offered jelly-bean. It was a yellow one, her favourite, but the moment it was in her mouth, she knew that they weren't ordinary ones. The only other time that she had eaten such a sweet was with her brothers when they had teased her and told her that it was normal lemon. This one however, was a mixture of earwax and honey - a bad mix that made her pull a sour face before quickly swallowing it. Passing an interested/bemused look to the host of the sweets, she tried to peek quietly at the packet and see if indeed, they were the magic ones that she had had before. The conversation stayed on sports and Jaz listened, thinking of her answer as the question was asked to her. "Um, i like to run. To be free and forget things." She concluded, saying a lot more than she would have a few minutes ago, a sign that her confidence - the little of it - was returning slowly so that she was able to give more than one worded answers. However, it would be pushing it to ask her what she needed to get away from and she hoped that these girls wouldn't ask, because she wasn't ready to talk to anyone yet, especially not some girls that she had only just met. Her family life wasn't as bad as some people might suggest, but she didn't enjoy it and liked to be free and run. Her elder brothers were quidditch mad, but she couldn't say this because then the conversation would turn nasty as these girls were muggles - or so Jasmine believed.

Josefiina Helkovaara, as a young girl in Finland had always taken to ice hockey. It had practically been her fathers only wish that she play, and Josefiina had been happy to please him. She'd taken up the sport very young and while had been pretty scared to begin with had really taken to it, unlike most others would. She found it fairly simple to ice skate and then playing hockey with that was fairly simple. She'd had to stop since coming to New Zealand. Mainly because she didn't know if they even had the sport. It was an indoor sport, but in the winter months the ice was so thick on rivers they'd go out to play. It added a bit of danger. And that was really what the Finnish girl loved. She knew that it was pretty bad, but she loved it. Playing hockey was the only sport she actually really enjoyed and it helped that she knew she was actually good at it which was not something she could say about most other sports. Ice Hockey was just the one for her. She smiled her thanks and took a sweet. She took a slightly white one and bit into it. She was pretty surprised when the taste of soap entered her mouth. She gave a small cough and just swallowed quickly. It couldn't those bertie botts beans. Surely not. Was the girl a witch, or did she have a brother or sister that was. She just did not know. It was difficult to tell. Josefiina didn't have many magical foods, but she knew when they were. She could just tell, since they always had an odd edge that the muggle food didn't have. That and they always had a twist to them. Either something moved or was just the weirdest taste. But, she couldn't exactly just blurt out and ask if the girl was a witch. If she wasn't, Josefiina knew it would make her look like a pretty horrible person, and since she was trying to make new friends this was no what she wanted. Not at all. Josefiina wanted friends. "Ice hockey, brutal sport." josefiina said. "it need be very cold to play. We play outdoor in winter, because it very very cold. Lots of snow and ice." Josefiina explained. Generally just saying that, that was the reason that not many actually played the sport. Only the most northern countries could play it. Or the reverse in the South. But, it wasn't like it could never be played. It was just not a common sport. "I was on the under 11s team. For Helsinki. Gymnastics, that very 'ard. Are you good?" Josefiina asked, before turning to the other girl. She did enjoy running, it was always part of the training. Running to be sure that top form was achieved and maintain by all that play. "Running good for that. It help me forget. I like running through forest area. Not many in New Zealand, but in Helsinki we have many on edge of city."
