Open Phantoms

[Professor Minnie Calida]

Minnie had gone for a very specific costume, one that did indeed cover most of her face, she’d come as the phantom of the opera. The ravenclaw knew this assured that she wouldn’t really get too spotted by her parents. She couldn’t get spotted by her parents when she had been specifically told to not go there. She had a long black cap and a white shirt with black trousers. She was sure that most people could figure out who she was, but so long as she stayed out of most pictures and specifically any close ups she knew that she would likely be just fine, her parents wouldn’t be any the wiser. The ravenclaw moved around the hall with a giddy excitement, she didn’t know it could be this much fun to point blank ignore and go against her parents. Even when she argued a point and lost she would listen to them, but not this time, this time she was just doing what she wanted, regardless of what they wanted. She got to the drinks table and got herself a little drink. She took a cup, put in a paper straw and raised the mask so that she could drink it easily. The Ravenclaw would need to be careful as she did this, but she was here and she would have fun and that made it all worth while. ​

 

[Hattie Thorne]

Hattie did not choose to go to the Halloween Feast last year. She kept to herself, wanting to fully settle into the school before including herself in too many activities. But now this year was different. Not only had she signed up and was a part of the Heta Omega club, but she also found herself in the Great Hall for the Halloween Feast. She enjoyed the celebration and so had also decided to dress up for it as a ghost. She had a torn white sheet over the top of her, her face covered by a piece of black fabric, and holding a chain in which she used to make the costume seem more scary. She liked the fact her face was covered as this also made the costume more scary as they did not know who was underneath it. She knew that the unknown scared people and so used this to her advantage. The girl stood at the drink table as everyone around her celebrated, pouring herself a glass of pumpkin juice. She hadn't seen anyone yet that she noticed until a person a similar height as her poured a drink beside her and lifted her mask up slightly to drink from it. "Oh hi!" Hattie exclaimed once she could see some of her face and recognised it, happy to see someone she knew. "We share a dorm together. It's Minnie, isn't it?" Hattie's face turned a shade of pink as she realised her own face was covered. She lifted up the piece of fabric. "It's me, Hattie." she told her, a bright smile on her face.

Minnie glanced around as someone spoke to her, the person next to her was someone Minnie knew in theory. Hattie, someone she shared a dorm with but hadn’t really spoken to. The girl seemed nice, just Minnie didn’t always have the time to spare. She raised her own mask a little and gave a friendly smile, ”Hattie, hi,” She had recognised the girl’s voice but it was always good to put a name to the sound and also in this case the face to the sound. She knew what Hattie looked like but it was good to be reminded. The ravenclaw smiled at her, ”Are you a ghost?” Minnie asked looking at the girl’s costume with a keen eye. A ghost had been something that Minnie had thought about being but if she was going to hide at this event, she might as well wear something that she still wanted which was the phantom of the opera costume. She would also admit that it might be quite nice to get to know one of the other girls in her dorm, Minnie hadn’t been particularly successful in managing to make many friends in her own house, or really in general. But maybe she could make a bit of a friend now with Hattie. ​
