Last year had just been a warm up, as far as Jenna was concerned. Her blind date had been totally tragic, but she supposed that was a fitting punishment for doing something as tragic as signing up for blind dates in the first place. This year, nothing was going to chance. Noah was cute, he was sporty, he was popular, everything Jenna was looking for in a dream boyfriend. And he had done the gentlemanly thing and asked her himself, exactly as she had hoped. This was on track to be the first date in the kind of romance people dreamed about. Popular girl and popular boy, living their dream lives. She had dressed up for the occasion, enjoying how mature the all black outfit made her look. It didn't pop, exactly, but she felt like a sophisticated lady, ready to show up her immature peers.
Waiting outside the hall for Noah to meet her, Jenna pulled a compact from her purse and double checked her makeup, brushing at a stubborn eyelash that refused to fall in line with the others no matter how many times she curled them. She should have really plucked that one before leaving, but it was in there now, unfortunately. At least the rest of her was flawless, the "casual" messy bun that had taken her four tries to get perfect offsetting the dress well. Yes, she was a sophisticated lady but, like, in an effortless way. Like she didn't even need to care. She was perfect, and now all she needed was the perfect boy to compliment her look.
