Leif had been back at school for a couple of weeks already, yet he hadn't gotten a response to the letter he had send his sister in his first week, which made the boy have a lot of mixed emotions. At one side he felt like maybe she was just having so much fun on her trip that she just forgot to write him back, for which the boy aboslutely couldn't blame her. On the other side his protective nature came floating above and he was worried that perhaps she hadn't written back to him because something had happened to her. Since he didn't know what was actually going on and knowing that he could never bother his sister, the fifth year just made his way up to the owlery to write her another letter. Better to be safe than sorry right? Leif had already written the letter back in his dorm, so the only thing he needed to do was to just get an owl to deliver his letter. Once he had finally reached the owlery the boy sat down, needing a rest after making his way up all the way from his common room. As he sat he looked around at all the owls, he had always liked the animals and they left him wondering who they all belonged to and where their next journey would be going.

Phoebe wasn't the best at keeping in touch, and she knew that. But Rose was always there to needle her to write their parents, something she had done earlier today as well. Phoebe always told her sister that if Rose was sending letters, she should just add Phoebe's name to the bottom as well. But Rose always pretended not to hear or changed the subject. Her sister was good at avoiding arguments like that, which sometimes frustrated Phoebe quite a bit. But today she had been in a good mood, so she had written a letter about the things she was learning and general life at school. She didn't think it was that good or interesting, but it would make her parents happy, assuming her mother had time to read it. As Phoebe entered the owlery, she frowned at the sight of a boy sitting there. She recognized him from her classes. "Leif, do you usually sit here and look at the owls?" She asked, raising her eyebrows slightly. "If so, why?" Maybe he had a good reason, but she wasn't sure what it could be.

Leif enjoyed looking at the owls, even if he didn't exactly know what it was about the animals that he liked so much. He could think of worse ways to spend his time, even if the place wasn't the cleanest. The boy had been looking at the birds for a while when he noticed another student entering the owlery. He recognized her, but he couldn't remember having ever really talked to her. Leif chuckled at her question and the way she asked it. He couldn't be bothered by it. "Sometimes." He answered her truthfully, "I wouldn't say always though. Just whenever I need a rest after climbing all of those stairs." Leif smiled at her as he got up and let out a small whistle to get his owl to come to him. "Plus, I just like owls. Nothing wrong with that right?"

Phoebe listened as Leif answered, and considered his answer for a little while. "That's not a reason for coming up here. You wouldn't need a rest from climbing all those stairs if you just... didn't climb all those stairs." She pointed out with a slight grin. She knew he probably came up here to post letters and whatnot, but he hadn't specified that. She watched in fascination as he called his owl, wondering if she could teach her own owl Strigiformes to do that. "Though I guess liking owls is a good reason. Except that you're not just around owls but also their droppings." She wrinkled her nose. "Anyway, what's your owl's name?"
