One for the road

James couldn't believe that the final dance of school had arrived. Once he was on the other side of the dance only exams waited for him and that was a daunting prospect. None of that mattered as he stood in front of the mirror getting ready. He was going to the dance with the most beautiful girl he had ever laid eyes on, his girlfriend Maddie. That was all that mattered to James. Once he was ready James made his way down to the common room where he waited for his date. He was always nervous waiting for her before a dance because he knew when she made her way down the stairs she would take his breath away. He loved that feeling.

It was the last formal ball of the year, and the last formal ball ever for the seventh years which meant this would be the last time Maddie would be getting dressed up to meet James and the last time they would be dancing in the Great Hall together. These thoughts filled her head whilst she was getting ready and she actually felt incredibly sad rather than being excited for the night head. It was silly to think that only a couple of years ago, Maddie couldn't wait to get out of Hogwarts and to move on with her life. But, now, all she wanted was for the year to slow down. She didn't want to leave the school and everything and everyone that came with it.

She took a deep breath and twirled the last bit of hair around her finger before leaving the Common Room. Maddie and James had decided to meet each other at the bottom of the Grand Staircase, one last time. She peeked around the corner and saw that James was waiting for her just like they had arranged. She smiled when she saw how handsome he looked in his suit. Maddie stepped out from behind the wall and slowly walked down the staircase, grinning at James, the love of her life.

James knew that when he saw Maddie she would look incredible but he was constantly surprised by just how beautiful she was able to look when she dressed up for the dances. James took a sharp intake of breath when he saw his date making his way down the stairs to meet him. Before either of them said a word James met her and planted his lips on her to kiss her deeply. "You get more beautiful every time I see you," He said briefly resting his forehead against hers. After stepping back James took hold of Maddie's hand and interlocked their fingers together. "Shall we make our way down?"

Maddie threw her arms around her boyfriend's neck and eagerly returned the deep kiss that James planted on her. They both broke away for air and she couldn't stop grinning "you're such a charmer" she said playfully hitting her boyfriend's arm "but thank you babe, you look so good too" she said, returning the compliment. She nodded at her boyfriend and squeezed his hand "lets go in" she replied, taking a deep breath before walking into the Great Hall for the last dance of their school career.
