Amycus closed the door to hed bedroom and sighed. She was instructed by her mother to go to her room after dinner and get to work on some of her school assignments. The one annoying part about being home schooled was that one's mother knew when their homework was done and when it wasn't. There was no lying about it. Amycus didn't really feel like doing anything right now though. Her mind was having a hard time focusing right now. Surely her mother could see that by the way she behaved during dinner. Then again, Keyne was over for dinner tonight. Amycus' dad and mom seemed to be getting along better now than they ever have. So lately Leilani was likely distracted in her own way too. 'I guess that just means she'll be less likely to pop in and make sure I actually get something done tonight.' Amycus thought she she kicked her school books under the bed and glanced back at the closed door. She was actually considering on going outside and visiting her favorite spot at the beach. Perhaps Amycus would have a better chance at getting something done out there. The waves would settle her nerves and bring her to a calmer state of mind. But if she got caught sneaking out this late she would be dead. It was nearing nine in the evening. It was a little too late for her to be outside but Amycus didn't really care either. She had done this millions of times. So far she had never been caught. But then again her father had never been over for the night either. Amycus didn't think they would bother her but just in case she had a plan. Amycus snatched a pair of shoes from the closet and slipped them on over her skinny toes. She would just make it look like she had gone to bed instead. Amycus stuffed some pillows under the covers and pulled it up so it would look like someone was sleeping in it. Then Amycus turned off the light and headed to the window. First Amycus unlocked it and slowly opened it so her mother or father would not hear her open it from the next room. Once it was open enough for her to crawl through she hopped out the window. A gentle breeze blew by and fluttered around Amycus gracefully. She closed the window a little bit still left it cracked for when she came back. Amycus quietly tiptoed her way past the living room window and down a trail that led to the beach. The moon and the stars lit up the way for her. It was a beautiful night. Almost romantic if one was into that sort of thing.
The beach was secluded. Lights from the city across the bay lit up the sky in the distance. Amycus liked to look at them sometimes. 'It's so beautiful here.' Amycus smirked to herself and settled herself next to a tide pool. The seventeen year old pulled her wand out and muttered the lumos spell so she could see inside the tide pool. Clams and starfish were about the only thing she could see. But there was also some seashells there. Amycus gingerly picked a few of them out and held them gingerly between her fingertips. She put all the seashells she collected to the side then dipped her feet inside. The water was chilly but refreshing. Amycus loved it. This beat doing homework by a long shot. Amycus was about to go searching in another tide pool, but instead she heard a noise. One that made her turned her head to look around. Either someone was coming or she was hearing things. 'I really hope that isn't either of my parents.'Out of nervousness Amycus stood up and backed away from the tide pool. She saw no one. Amycus decided against going back to the tide pool and started to walk down the beach. The waves pool around her feet. She felt nervous about coming out. She didn't want to get into trouble. But she didn't want to go home either. Hopefully it wasn't anyone she knew. Amycus' eye looked back to the path. It seemed like no one was coming but she still felt like she needed to keep a close eye on the beach.
