Lucas sat in the stands, watching the Quidditch practice quietly and sketching in his notebook. It wasn't really anything special, just a half hearted attempt at Einar on his broom with his robes fluttering behind him. He had turned his attention back to his drawing, hardly noticing when the practice had ended.

Practice had been miserably cold, though at least the small flurries of snow had managed to ease up some now. AJ had collapsed on the nearby stands, stretching out his legs and fingers so they'd still be usable when he finally went into the locker room to change. He'd played pretty poorly today and that last thing he wanted was Adam or Eli to see him struggle to get his pads off too. "Can't hit a bludger, can't take off my gloves even," He muttered, shaking his head and leaning back to squint at the sky.

He flinched when he realized he wasn't alone in the stands, spotting a younger kid with a notebook sitting nearby. AJ wondered if he was taking notes about Quidditch or something and hoped he hadn't just spent the whole practice dismaying AJ's shoddy flying. "What are you doing out here? Aren't you cold?" He called over to the younger boy quizzically.

Lucas looked up, surprised someone was speaking to him. He looked at the older boy quizzically a moment, before shaking his head softly in a 'no', showing his gloved hands. He tilted his sketchbook to show the rough sketch of Einar flying. He hesitated a moment before digging in his bag and offering an extra pair of gloves to the boy, before hesitating. He had heard the older boy complaining about getting his quidditch gear off, so Lucas, unbothered by the cold, unthinkingly reached over to attempt to help undo the laces on the boys bracers.

AJ blinked slowly as the younger boy shook his head wordlessly raising his gloved hands. "Fair enough.." He said, shrugging. The chill was definitely less pronounced down on solid ground without the sharp, icy wind blowing in his face, which AJ appreciated. He squinted at the boy's notebook, surprised to see a sketch of what was probably Einar, judging by the white hair. "Oh hey, that's pretty good. Are you guys friends? I think he draws too," AJ said, though he wasn't sure you could call Einar's.. expressive scribbles drawing per say. He definitely put pen to paper, so it counted.

The boy then offered AJ a pair of gloves, which was sweet, but AJ shook his head, raising his own hands still in their quidditch gloves. "I'm good, but thanks-" He said, cutting off to gently pull his arm away, confused, as the boy reached for his bracers. "Oh um. No? Thank you?" AJ said, trying to ignore the twinge from his ribs from the earlier bludger hit as he shifted a little further away from the kid. "I'm good, I got it. Star beater, can take off my own gear," He said with an awkward thumbs up, perfectly aware that he'd been absolutely terrible beater this practice. AJ was starting to wonder if maybe there was something up with this kid. Maybe he'd been jinxed silent or something?

Lucas paused as the older boy asked if Einar was his friend. Were they friends? Lucas thought so. He nodded slowly, unsure still if Einar liked Lucas or if Lucas had just pestered the other boy into accepting his presence. Lucas just knew that his life had been a lot calmer since the last incident with Dawson, when he and Einar had seemed to accept they were friends. He shut his pencil in his notebook, deciding he could finish the drawing later, if the older boy was done it meant Einar would be done soon, too.

Lucas hesitated as the other boy pulled away. Oh, right. Most people didn't like being touched. He pulled his hand back, blushing a little bit. He opened his mouth to apologize when he heard a quick clattering of footsteps, and before he knew it he'd been pushed over, his papers flying as he toppled over the seat in front of him. He popped up quickly, looking wide-eyed up at his brother. "Hiya, Luca," Dawson grinned. "Don't you have something for me?" His brother demanded, getting awful close. Lucas swallowed nervously, digging in his pockets quickly and handing over his allowance for the week. "Sorry, Dawson," He managed quietly, wincing as his brother grabbed his hair and knocked their foreheads together. "Such a good little brother," Dawson sneered, pushing Lucas back over before bolting away.

Lucas knew why, of course. If Einar had any idea that Dawson was still after him, he would be livid. Which, of course, is why Lucas wasn't going to tell him. He sighed, untangling his limbs and starting to gather his things. "Sorry..." He apologized quietly to the older boy still nearby. "I'll go..." He spoke softly, like if he spoke too loud he might break. Lucas didn't look at the other boy as he piled his papers back into his sketchbook.

The boy gave AJ an uncertain nod when he asked about Einar, which AJ could relate to. He'd known Einar for most of the year now through quidditch and he wasn't sure if the younger student liked him either. AJ busied himself fussing with the fastening on his bracers, feeling awkward and wondering if he should leave the kid to it now when his roommate Dawson appeared in the stands, making a beeline for the younger boy. "Oh hey-" He started, cutting off his greeting as he watched the two boys interact with puzzlement.

After the bizarre exchange with Dawson, the younger kid, Lucas, seemed pretty upset, grabbing his things to leave. "Wait, are you Dawson's.. brother?" He asked, frowning at where Dawson had run off to. "You shouldn't let him push you around like that.." AJ said pensively. It wasn't really any of his business, but AJ hated conflict and he knew he was going to have to go to his room tonight and frown quietly at Dawson all night if he didn't say anything. He probably would frown at Dawson all night anyway, but Lucas seemed a little easier to approach to help resolve the issue than he did.

Einar didn’t mind Lucas spending time at the pitch side while he practiced. Einar hadn’t been too bothered with it when they hadn’t been friends and he certainly wouldn’t be now. Einar liked to think if he was close by his friend’s brother wouldn’t come annoy him, that he might have a little protection from it. As the practice wound down, Einar had retreated to the changing rooms to get the quidditch gear off, and had noticed as he’d left the distinct outline of Dawson moving back towards the school. Einar scowled and frowned, unable to help clench his fists slightly. Perhaps it was innocent but he really doubted so. He walked up to where he knew Lucas would be and was surprised to see one of his teammates there. Where an easy expression had sat on his face knowing he’d spend time with his friend had been, it hardened and grew colder. He didn’t mind AJ in reality but he couldn’t have more people in his life. He noticed as he approached that all of Lucas’s stuff was strewn everywhere. ”Your brother’s the worst,” he said to Lucas as he picked up other stuff to help Lucas tidy up. ”Hey AJ, good practice right?” he kept the words short and the tone low.

Lucas glanced up at the other boy, nodding quietly at the question. "Yes," He responded softly, rubbing his nose. He ignored the other boy when he said Dawson shouldn't push him around. He heard the same thing from Einar a lot. Only it was usually... angrier.

As if thinking of Einar had summoned him, Lucas looked up as his friend started gathering his stuff as well. "I never said anything about Dawson," He murmured lightly, shifting a little uncomfortably. He didn't want Einar to get mad again. He glanced up at the other boy, Aj, and gave him a small smile. Lucas hoped Aj wouldn't say anything about what had happened with Dawson.

As he was gathering his things, Lucas came across an older picture, one of Aj at a practice earlier in the year. Lucas considered it a moment before leaning forward and holding it out to the beater, an offering.

AJ frowned when Lucas confirmed that Dawson was his brother, though it was a relief that apparently he could actually speak. Einar came to join them too, which surprised AJ a bit. Especially since he seemed to know about Dawson being a jerk to his little brother too. "Does that happen a lot?" He asked warily. AJ was an only child, so he wasn't really sure where the line was for sibling relationships, but if it was him, he would have told his mum about that sort of thing immediately if nothing else.

"Good is.. definitely a word for it," AJ said with false brightness when Einar mentioned practice, eager to forget about today already. He knew his practice had been crap, but maybe Einar hadn't noticed. Or was just being nice. AJ wondered if it said much about him if he was worried about the opinions of his 12 year old teammates. AJ was jarred from his moping about practice and the cold when Lucas leant over to pass him a paper, suddenly wondering if he was being a jerk for not helping pick up. "Oh, oh thanks?" He said, taking the drawing and tilting it to look at it. "Oh wow hey is that me? Are you giving me this? Thank you!" He said, happily looking at the paper again. AJ'd never gotten fanart before, he only hoped he looked as impressive on a broom in real life as in the picture.

Einar rolled his eyes at his friend, of course it had been Dawson, he’d seen the boy walking away and if it had been Aj they’d be having a very different conversation, it didn’t matter to Einar if they were teammates, if someone was picking on his friend he wouldn’t have any of it, absolutely not. But he just let his anger settle a little as Lucas appeared to give AJ a drawing, Einar was always pleased that Lucas found something to do during the practices. He couldn’t imagine it was much fun for most people. He looked to AJ, being polite to him, but exceedingly wary, not entirely trusting him to be actually nice to Lucas even though Einar had never seen AJ act anything other than nice. ”Lucas is the best at drawing,” he told AJ as he seemed pretty impressed with it. The other boy seemed pretty happy and Einar knew that there was probably one of him, but he didn’t want to assume that and he wasn’t sure he wanted to see it in front of AJ.

Lucas shrugged at Aj's question, not wanting to admit to him that this was a regular occurrence. He smiled softly as the older boy seemed to like the drawing, straightening the rest of his papers and stepping a little bit behind Einar, feeling shy in front of the older boy. "I, ah, have one for you but it isn't finished yet," He told him quietly. He smiled shyly at Aj, fidgeting a little bit with the hem of his shirt. "Um," he started softly. "Don't, ah, be too hard on yourself," He tried quietly. "Everyone has a rough practice sometimes. You're still a really good beater," he encouraged gently, stepping a little more behind Einar and blushing. Lucas wasn't good at talking to new people.

AJ was a little curious that everyone seemed to be just letting the whole Dawson thing slide, but maybe he was just blowing things out of proportion. He was also secretly glad if it wasn't a big deal anyway, he hadn't exactly been ready or willing to confront his roommate about being a jerk to his little brother. On the pitch he was fine getting a little physical with the bludgers, but he had no interest in starting any trouble off the pitch. "Yeah, he's good," He said to Einar, giving Lucas a smile, eager for the change in subject. He waved his hand when Lucas said he was a good beater, sure the younger boy must have spent all practice drawing rather than watching the game. "Thanks, I appreciate the sentiment at least," He said, stretching out his legs a bit before getting to his feet. "I should probably head in, get changed and all that," AJ said, awkwardly swinging his arms after point over to the locker rooms. "Uh, catch you later," He said, waving quickly to Einar and Lucas and nearly stepping too far off the stands to get back onto the ground. Smooth.
