Jenna liked to think she was open to change, but her life had changed a lot, all at once. She hadn't spoken to her brother since the Quidditch finals last year, and the house had felt strangely empty without him in it. Jenna and Blake had never exactly been close, but it was like she had become an only child overnight. Under other circumstances the attention would have been wonderful, but the silent tension of Dad taking Blake's hockey trophies down from the family display, the strain of facing an empty chair at dinner time, the muffled arguments from Mum and Dad's room Jenna had tried not to hear... it wasn't what she wanted at all.
But it was what it was, and the holidays at least were over. Avoiding her loser roommates kept Jenna out of the Slytherin commons most of the time anyway, so keeping away from her brother wasn't a difficult task. More than ever, Jenna longed for her old school. She had had everything there... friends, power, and pretty much anything she wanted. She was the queen and everyone knew it. Hogwarts was so full of losers none of them even seemed to notice her. But Jenna noticed them. Leaning over a landing high up in the stairwell, Jenna was idly watching kids come by and mentally ranking the tragic holiday haircuts. Emphasis on tragic. Nobody at this school would know style if it bit 'em on the nose.
