As much as Derek loved quidditch, which was about as much as anyone else, he was pleased the season was over. Not only had Slytherin not done too well, which had diminished his interest in it, then hufflepuff had lost and Derek had friends in that house, well, he had Emilia who was his friend in that house, but none of that mattered now, there was just no more quidditch left. The boy had decided that he would forgo studying and just enjoy himself a bit. He was a first year after all, there were a few things that he didn't have to worry so much about, that included doing well in his classes. In Derek's mind he just needed to pass, and he was certain he was going to pass most of his classes, so certain in fact that he was outside on the quidditch pitch with his rugby ball and wand. He wanted to see if he could just mess about for a bit. Now the pitch was unlikely to be taken every minute by a whole team trying to practice. The season was over and with the exams looming, he was certain he'd get the space he needed. Derek threw the rugby ball hard, his wand tucked away where it wouldn't bother him and he raced down the pitch to then try to catch it. Which he missed. He kicked the ball back the opposite direction and tried to catch it then too. He was just goofing about, diving after the ball, rolling, using his wand to summon it to him as he'd learned to do in charms, banishing it just the same. He wasn't looking to improve or to even show off, Derek was just having fun in a way he knew how to, with just all the space he could want because quidditch was over for the semester.
