Charlie felt especially alone tonight. He was a New Yorker, crowds didn't bother him. But he felt alone. He didn't want to skip the first ball, though. He knew his dad would want to know about it. He didn't really have a suit or anything, so he slipped on a nice shirt and regular jacket. He walked down to the hall, and for a moment he stopped in his tracks. The hall was beautiful. He let out a soft breath, wishing for a moment that he had thought to bring a camera. He would have to ask his dad for something for next year. He pulled out of his reverie and slunk inside, settling uncomfortably on one side of the hall. He watched the others, unsure of what to do.

Amelia’s mouth dropped open when she entered the Great Hall. The colors, the decoration, and all of the pretty people were stunning. No way would she miss the Yule Ball, even if she didn’t have a date. Amelia hadn’t been too fussy with her own appearance, and she was too oblivious to feel underdressed. She was spinning around, looking for either one of her roommates or Michael and his boyfriend. Amelia couldn’t wait to make fun of Michael’s outfit. She was so busy moving around, standing on her tiptoes, and trying to find someone to attach herself to, that she bumped into someone behind her. She fell promptly onto her backside. Still on the floor, propping herself up on her hands, she laughed, “Sorry!”

Charlie nearly jumped out of his skin when he felt someone knock into him. He cursed softly, rushing forward and offering out his hand to the girl to help her up. "What? No, no, I'm sorry, are you alright?" He asked, concern in his voice.
