Freddie was still laughing. In a friendly way. In a funny way. He wasn’t being mean. Or was he? Declan was laughing too, so it was probably okay. “That’s a weird gift,” Freddie said, leaning back against the shelf. The thought of Declan’s mom seeing the tarantula for the first time made him laugh again. “She must’ve freaked out. Did she make you bring him to school? I bet she was like, ‘That is not staying in the house.’” Auntie Thalia would have lost her mind if Freddie came home with a pet spider. “My brother has a hamster. He’s called Declan. No, I’m kidding. That’d be funny. He’s called Butters. He’s got a pretty big butt. I don’t think I - if I - I mean, if I had a pet, I’d probably forget to give it food and stuff.”​
