Alexander Carter hadn't seen his best friend in such a long time. Things had been weird ever since he had told her that he loved her, and she had gotten with another guy. It had been petty of him, and he accepted that, but he had heard that she had a pretty rough break up with him, and no matter what had happened in the past between them Alex knew that he had to be a good friend for her. She would need someone, even if it was somebody to yell at in the long run. He deserved it, anyway.

He knew that the best place to find her would probably be somewhere in Obsidian Harbour, because it was the time of the year where she would be looking after the wand store. Alex sighed a little bit, he didn't know what he was gonna say, or what there even was to say. He just stood outside of Olivanders, and waited and hoped that she would come outside sometime. He didn't wanna go in there, he'd rather be in public just in case she didn't want to be around him.

Deciding to work over the break had been a right choice for Victoire, she had decided that rather than doing nothing in applying for real adult jobs she would good doing something. It was just a good thing that Victoire had a job that kept her occupied during the breaks between school years, of course at the end of this break she would not be returning to school and she would officially be leaving the job too. The former gryffindor was rather happy about this prospect, but she was content work in the store, it didn't bother her that she wasn't going out and enjoying the new magical freedom, she was sticking to the normal, and the most productive path. It did help that she didn't want to enjoy the freedom because she could no longer share it with Jean in few times that they had, and though she knew things were over between them, it was still difficult to get over, he had become such a huge part of her life and now he wasn't in any part. It had not been the end of term she had expected but it was the one she got.

As the blonde was just finishing up, and she undid the bun in her hair, an indication that the work day was over, or well for her it was and it was only as the girl was putting on her jacket that she noticed who was waiting outside. Having been so busy with Jean, being head girl and her NEWTs she hadn't had much time for Alex, and given that Victoire was lacking in company she was actually quite happy to see him. She stepped outside and stood in front of him, "Hey Alex," she greeted softly, a friendly expression on her face, "Waiting on someone?" she asked, unsure really of what he was doing there though she was happy to have seen him and been able to talk to him, "It's been a while," she added as an after thought, it hadn't been that long, but given the year she had just had, it felt like a long time. The levels to which she did not envy Alex having to return to school were far higher than most would expect from someone who did like school as much as Victoire did.

Alex was pleasantly surprised when she seemed to be happy to see him. He had kinda been expecting her to be annoyed at him, or not want to talk to him. But he realised now that he was just overthinking things and she was infact happy to see him. Alex gave her a smile, he was obviously here to see her. "I came here to see you, silly." He said with a cheeky grin on his face. He had missed her, and he usually did whenever they were apart for a larger period of time. Though he knew that this was likely due to another reason.

Alex closed the distance between himself and Victoire and gave her a huge hug. He knew that it was more than likely that she would need a hug, but at the same time there was likely a good chance that she wouldn't want to talk about it at all. He wouldn't press the matter if she was against it. Pulling away, he gave her another smile. "I had a feeling you'd need that. How's things?" He asked, noticing that things seemed to be a lot easier between them now that he knew that there wasn't someone else in her life. He knew that she still likely didn't feel the same, but there was more of a chance now. Not that he would pressure her, or anything.

Victoire could help the look of surprise that cross d her features when he said he was there for her, they had grown apart in recent months and honestly she hadn't been sure of where they stood. The former gryffindor had desired to salvage their friendship but it had been hard to find the time to even see him so that just hadn't happened. But here he was here to see her, Victoire gave Alex a little smile in return, "Well, I hope you weren't left waiting too long," the girl told him with an honest and sincere tone. She really did hope that he hadn't been waiting too long, she hadn't even noticed him until she had left work, though in Victoire's defence she hadn't thought anyone would be outside waiting for her, it was then natural for her to be surprised to see him, and hope he hadn't been waiting long. All her thoughts were interrupted when he closed the distance and wrapped his arms around her in a hug. To begin with the girl was rather startled but she slowly wrapped her arms around him and returned the hug, it was nice, even though her work had been keeping her busy she couldn't help but admit that she'd been feeling pretty lonely.

The last few months had definitely not been easy, though she definitely understood Jean's motives for what he'd done, she couldn't help but be upset about it. A little part of her was still frustrated at the ridiculousness of it all, of the fact that it had ended because his family was so backwards, but being out of school and unable to see him had caused her anger to abate, for her understanding of the situation to grow and the upset be the emotion to hold of it. But with each day that Victoire worked and the time between them breaking up and the current day grew she knew that it was getting easier. Victoire pulled away from the hug as he appeared to as well, and she just met his gaze with a fond expression, "I've been keeping busy," the former head girl replied, of course no one really was supposed to know about her and Jean but she was sure people had figured it, though for all she knew he was talking about the loss of Avie. Regardless he'd been right she had needed it, "What about you? How've you been?" she asked taking a step away from him, "Do you mind if we walk and talk, I'm dying for a coffee," Victoire was quick to add motioning in the direction of coffee with a small smile.

"Not too long at all." Alex said, noticing that Victoire was still pulling away from him a little bit, so he wasn't particularly sure where the two of them stood at the moment. Though, they had had a complicated relationship the past year or so and he understood that that could create quite a lot of friction between anyone really. He was just happy that she at least seemed to be happy to see him, which meant that there was definitely still something that was salvageable from the ruins of their friendship. He didn't know if the two of them would be able to move past him saying that he loved her. He hoped it would be possible, though.

Alex shrugged those thoughts off, and gave her a chuckle. "Of course we can grab a coffee, my treat." He said with a smile on his face, gesturing for her to lead the way. "I've been good, just keeping myself busy with all of the school work. NEWT year coming up." He was pretty hungry, so he hoped they had some sort of snacks there for him to eat. When they got there, Alex went ahead and ordered Victoire's favourite, and his usual. Bringing them back to the table he gave her a smile. "Here you go, your favourite." He said with a chuckle, he always enjoyed spending time with her.

Victoire knew there would be some lasting awkwardness between them, it was undeniable so soon after everything else had happened at least within Victoire's life, but it did at least mean they could begin upon reforming this friendship which they had once shared, she could admit to having always like Alex, sure he'd annoyed her, putting her in the awkward position as he had done when she just hadn't been interested and every act that had come before it and followed in her mind had suddenly come into question as to if it was just because he was her friend or because he loved her, but that had been a while ago and she'd done far more since then. So much had changed even just over the last few months. Victoire just smiled at him, nodding at his words and leading the way so that she could get coffee, the blonde tucked a small strand of blonde hair from her face, following the familiar path for coffee, despite the fact that now as an adult she could opt for a bar. Victoire had never been much of a drinker, and what she had tasted so far had all been belgian beer, and that was apparently rarity, so what interest did she have in wanting a drink after work.

Victoire was unsurprised when he said he was kept busy with NEWT work, she had just finished that, and though Victoire had done really well in her exams it had been a lot of hard work, countless hours spent slaving over homework, books and just years of notes from all her classes. Victoire held the door open as he followed her inside and she went to find a table, a little surprised when he walked straight to the counter, and then a few minutes later returned with two drinks. It was odd that he had remembered her favourite drink, she couldn't help the slightly shy expression that graced her features as she wrapped her hands around the coffee and took a sip of the still too hot liquid. "I'm surprised you can even remember what my favourite is," Victoire replied honestly referring to the coffee in her hands, "Thanks," quietly followed as she raised the cup once more and took a small sip of the slightly cooling hot liquid. Her gaze stayed on the cup for a few more seconds before she looked up at him, "You'll be fine in your NEWTs though," Victoire assured him returning to what they had been talking about before sitting down, "Put in the work and you'll be fine, you are more than smart enough to do well," Victoire knew that it was true, he'd had a few problems in the beginning but she knew that he wouldn't anymore, she was more than sure of his intelligence, "Do you know what you want to be after school?" Victoire couldn't remember if they'd ever talked about this, she had a feeling he'd probably want to be a healer or an auror, he seemed like the type to want to do that. And she felt he was more than capable of doing that.
