Finley was starting to settle into the usual Hogwarts routine by now. Wake up, get something to eat, go to classes, go back, have some dinner and then hide in the common room until bed. And there was rarely any deviation from that. It was not like he had friends to hang out with or anyone who actually gave a damn. Sure, he had chosen to avoid conversation and put up barriers, but it was still a rather lonely life. Not that he really cared, anyway, everyone was simply better off and happier without him around. Just as it had been all his life.

However, that afternoon he found that the loneliness and lack of anyone to actually talk to was really dragging his mood down. He'd been at the castle for some time now and he still didn't know half the people in his own dorm room further than their names. With his hands shoved into his pockets, Fin had decided to go for a bit of walk to try and clear his hand. Eventually, his feet brought him to the courtyard. Looking up from the ground, he squinted a little under the sudden change in brightness, glancing around for a moment. There were a couple of people around, so he supposed that was as good as he was going to get for 'company', sighing as he wandered over to the structure in the middle of the courtyard and perched down on the edge of it. Maybe he could just sit here for a bit and feel like he was interacting with society without actually having to talk to anyone.

Ruto enjoyed Hogwarts so far. It was good exploring the castle where she could and meeting some new people as well. Everyone seemed nice, as far as she could tell, and they were definitely clearing up the stereotypes some of the houses had. She was learning more and more everyday, and even outside of classes, and that was definitely enough to say that she actually really liked the place.

As Ruto exited the Great Hall after a meal, she wandered into the courtyard where her eyes lay on a boy with a familiar face from the sorting ceremony. He didn't look very happy, looked a little like a loner, but somehow the girl was drawn to him. She wanted to help him. No one ever looked very good when they were sad. She approached him, smiling slightly at him. "Hey." she said, taking a seat beside him on the edge of the structure. "I'm Roo. What's your name?"

Idly, Finley started swinging his legs a little, feeling his heels hit the stone every single time he swung his legs back too far. While he supposed being outside and getting some fresh air was nice, it was still pretty boring. Maybe he should have brought something to do like a book. Or he could have brought some paper and his pens and gotten to writing one of his short stories. Those were always good ways to pass the time. And now he was at Hogwarts he certainly had some new material to incorporate. His imagination had never been the best, but magic certainly did help with new possibilities.

However, his train of thought was cut abruptly short when a girl he somewhat recognized sat down next to him and quickly introduced herself. Finley just wrinkled his nose for a little, somewhat put off from being so rudely interrupted like that. But the blank look that usually settled on his features came back just as quickly as his gaze flickered away from the girl again to stare back out at the courtyard. "Finley," he did offer shortly. It would have been rude to just completely ignore her.

Ruto could tell the boy didn't like her presence, but he was going to have to put up with it. Roo wanted to make friends, and he should have wanted to make friends too if he wanted to have a good reputation. It was only inevitable that he would not get on well if he didn't have friends, so she was only trying to help him. He managed to tell her his name, and she smiled, confident that she'd be able to open him up a little more. "It's nice to meet you, Finley." she replied. "How are you finding Hogwarts so far?" She was going to get him to have a conversation with her and she wouldn't give up until he did.

The girl, this Roo, was not getting the idea that he would rather be left alone and not actually be having a conversation. Did she really need him to turn around and spell it out to her or something? Though, that would require having more of a conversation. And Fin simply couldn't be bothered with one of those right now. It didn't help that she seemed so determined to try and have a conversation, asking pointless questions about how Hogwarts was going. Finley didn't bother with much of a verbal response, just shrugging his shoulders rather vaguely, though it did rather sum up his experiences so far quite nicely.

Roo just nodded as Finley simply shrugged in response to her question. "Well, I sort of agree. Classes are a little boring, but it's amazing how big Hogwarts is, right? Or are you used to living in a big castle like this?" Roo asked, suddenly wondering if he had come from a big rich family. She knew he was annoying him a little bit by talking, and so stayed silent for a little bit after, just admiring the blue sky and thin clouds above them. Silence could sometimes have a lot to say, more than words ever could, so Roo was content to just sit there with him for a while until he became bored.

Apparently, shrugging his shoulders was a proper response and once again the girl continued to talk as though Fin wanted to be having this conversation. The sound of her voice was starting to get annoying and he was almost tempted to stand up and just leave and hope she didn't try and follow him. But he stayed put, if only because she suddenly asked if he was used to living in a castle. At that he did have to turn his head, offering a rather strange look. Why would anyone be used to living in a castle? "Of course not," he did add quietly, refraining from rolling his eyes before turning his head away again. The orphanages he had come from were certainly no castles.
