It was a mix of anger and boredom that had brought Archie to the Owlery on a sunny afternoon with a crumpled up letter in his hand. There was no denying that the Gryffindor curfew had gotten further and further on his nerves during the last few weeks, which he had shown by complaining non-stop to his friends who by now had heard enough of it. Ailsa and Jean, also in Gryffindor and affected by the curfew were annoyed in their own right, and Orwell wanted to fight back and lift the curfew from being in place. While Archie agreed with Orwell, and saw no reason to punish an entire house for the actions of a few, he also believed that fighting back would only make an already bad situation worse. Sure, Archie missed cuddle time as much as Orwell did, and he hated spending his evenings bored out of his mind in the common room. But he wasn't about to give up the small amount of freedom he still had by choosing to fight back instead of waiting it out.

Archie knew he had exhausted his resources, that complaining to the friends he had in Hogwarts had become more counter productive than productive. So he was forced to find solace elsewhere, and had scribbled down a quick letter to his friend Quinn on a whim the previous night when Ailsa was talking to Logan and he had nothing better to do. They had only met once during the summer holidays and had barely spoken since. But Archie did think the other boy was interesting, and wanted to keep in contact with him even if it involved ranting about his unfortunate situation with parchment and ink. Archie sighed as he stepped foot into the Owlery, remembering how long it had been since he had sent or received an Owl that wasn't from his sisters. Though he quickly pressed the thought into the back of his mind so he could focus on the task at hand. He quickly folded his messily written letter into an envelope addressed simply to 'Quinn' and gave it to the nearest Owl, asking the bird to deliver it safely and handing it a small treat before he watched it fly away into the distance.
Quinn said:
Hey bro!

Do you wanna year something crazy?

A lot of stuff has gone down in my school lately. Brock held this protest outside the forbidden forest, right? Then this sixth year got caught with a box of fireworks on the great lawn. There's also been a group of first years that won't stop pulling pranks and getting in trouble.

So guess what my head of house did? She put this new curfew on all of us! We have to go back to the common room straight after dinner, and we're not allowed to go anywhere for the rest of the night!

I hate it. Everyone hates it. It's just so boring to sit in the common room all night. I want to go out and have fun, you know?

Anyway, how have you been? How is school going for you? I almost forgot to ask 'cause I'm so annoyed about this curfew. It's just really, really dumb. I wish it was over already!

Make sure you reply to me asap! I need something to do when I'm stuck in the common room.

Archie.

It had been a pleasant surprise when the large tawny owl had flown into his dorm room and landed on his roommates bed. It was even more of a surprise when the letter had turned out to be from Archie, a boy he had met one summer and had gotten along with. They hadn't spoken much recently, but Quinn was glad he was still remembered.

Holding out a hand to the owl, which it abruptly hopped onto, and leading it to the large, ornate owl cage near the door, Quinn strode back to his desk and began to write a response to his friend who appeared to be in a dire situation. He didn't really know what to do, as he couldn't really relate seeing as him and his friends hardly ever got into trouble. Not that it was Archie's fault. As he sat re-reading the letter, he couldn't help but chuckle at the injustice of it all, and poor Archie stuck in the middle of it.

After finishing his letter, Quinn fastened the letter to the owl (which he had dubbed Iris), gave her a treat and set her into the air out of his window. It was at that point he collapsed into his bed, utterly exhausted.

After reading about your predicament, I think I know a way to liven up your common room, but it'll take some time to prepare!

Luckily for us at Beauxbatons (which is still as fancy as everyone makes it out to be) we don't have houses, thus we don't have head of houses to curfew us. I feel sorry for you Archie I really do but alas there is nothing i can really do unless I came at gate-crashed Gryffindor Common Room... Hey! That's a plan!

School hear is busy... As usual! I wish I was at Hogwarts or even, (I shudder as I write this) Durmstrangs. There is just so much fu**ing blue everywhere it drives me insane. I swear one day I'm just gonna curse the clothes to a different color.

Also in other news, I'll be looking for work in Obsidian Harbour, so even if you can't visit me (due to the curfew) I'll soon be a permanent fixture of Obsidian Harbour.

Your Faithful Friend

Archie was surprised and alternately delighted when he received such a quick reply from Quinn. It meant he would spend one less evening in the common room with nothing to do. He avoided homework like the plague and the friends he did have in school were either in other houses or distracted so he intended to make the most of the letter, reading it slowly after he had sat down and opened the envelope so he could absorb every word as a smile crept it's way on to his face. The other boy's enthusiasm was something Archie admired and although it would not change the predicament he was caught in with the curfew, it was almost exactly what he needed to make the situation seem like it would be over before he knew it. When he had finished reading, he quickly retrieved a piece of parchment as well as a quill, a small bottle of black ink and another envelope so he could scribble down a reply that he wasted no time sending early the next morning in the hope Quinn would get back to him before dinner that day.

Thanks for the super fast reply, Quinn. It saved my life. I thought I was going to die of boredom in the common room!

I'd love for you to gate crash! But a random Beaux boy sneaking in and saving everyone would probably make the curfew worse! I really just want to wait it out no matter how painful and boring it is.

I didn't know that Beauxbatons didn't have houses. Is that normal for other schools? Is Hogwarts the only school that has houses?

I like blue because it looks like the ocean. I bet your school doesn't look that bad.

You're going to be in Obsidian harbour?! That means we can hang out during the holidays! It's one more thing to look forward to when this evil curfew is over. What kind of job are you looking for there? Do you think I should get a job there too? It would give me more money to spend on candy!! hurrah!

Can't wait to get your next letter, bro. It'll keep me from dying again!

Archie.

It was nearing the end of lunchtime when the Owl (coincidentally the same one as before) Iris, soared down into the dining hall and dropped a small envelope onto his lap. Petting the majestic creature and ignoring his food on the table, he slid out the parchment and began to read. He smiled a small smile when the read the first line, Archie’s response was rather dramatic, but if Quinn remembered correctly, that was Archie.

Once he had finished reading he slipped the letter inside his blazer pocket and started to write a response moving his notes from his previous revision over to make room for his response.

So Archie, am I a lifesaver or what?! I'm glad you didn’t die of boredom, but at least you have your Quidditch games to look forward to... How is that going by the way?

I believe all Wizarding schools are different, Maybe Hogwarts is the only one with houses I don’t know? Durmstrangs has enough rivalry within its walls as it is without the added divisions of houses. I don't know about any of the other schools worldwide though.

I'm almost always in Obsidian Harbour anyhow so there is no getting out of hanging with me, even if you wanted to. I think I'll look for a shop assistant vacancy or something along those lines, Try to get a job there and maybe we'd end up working together! I would suggest starting our own sweet shop but you'd just eat all the merch.

Anyway I now have a lesson to go to as I'm writing this, so I'll eagerly be awaiting your response!

Finding a new letter from Quinn and writing a response in the common room on the same day had quickly integrated itself in Archie's routine. So much so, that he wasted no time gathering his stationary together and scribbling down another letter when he returned to his dorm room after dinner. He was thankful that he had a medium to stop his mind growing insane from boredom and his lingering annoyance at the Gryffindor curfew. His appreciation at his out of school friend was something he wasn't afraid to show in his words or even in his expression as he woke up early and sent his letter the very next morning.
Quinn said:
You really are a lifesaver! I'm so happy that we can send owls and that I'm still not dead.

Quidditch is quidditch, I still love it. Gryffindor didn't play well this year because there's some sort of power struggle between the captains and the players. It's really annoying but I hope the team sorts out their problems next year, 'cause I want to win!

I thought all the schools had houses! That's so funny!

I'm in Obsidian Harbour whenever I'm buying stuff for school, so there's no way I'll waste a chance to hang!

I would eat all the candy which is exactly why you should start a sweet shop alone. If you promise to give me a friend discount, I'll promise be your best customer.

What class did you go to? Was it fun? Tell me!

Archie.

Again, Quinn was pleasantly surprised when he found another letter and a faithful owl waiting for him in his room once he'd arrived from his final lesson. He chuckled at his friends demand to know what lessons he had had today so he decided to write his day-to-day events down.

Archie said:

So I wish you luck with Quidditch next year, I may be closer than you think at that time!

Anyway so today we had charms and we were learning aguamenti and unfortunately the whole class got flooded by this one kid who totally WASN'T me and our Professeur let us go early. It may or may not have happened again later that day by the same person in a different lesson.

Later on after lunch me and my friend Gemma had Defensive Practical and now all she can do is laugh because she got hit with a laughing spell and in Beauxbatons unless an injury is fatal the best way to learn, is to learn from your mistakes, so she's stuck like that until she can find a counterspell. I would help her but it's really quite funny to watch.

What do you do in your school day? I'm really quite interested to see the differences between your school and mine!
