Julian thought that the first night of Hogwarts had gone pretty well. For all his worries that he wouldn't be able to find some way to get close to Mikael or that he wouldn't be able to tell Father anything about him, it had been Mikael who had come near enough for Julian to find things to tell. It was rather silly, and just cemented in Julian's mind that the older boy had no business being in the running for Nightray head. A half-blood being the head of a Pureblood family. Preposterous. Still, he had a job to do in this castle - aside from being a student of course. Thanks to last night, Julian had already figured out who he needed to talk to if he wanted to be closer to Mikael. That someone happened to be his roommate. Who was apparently the brother of whoever it was that was dragging Mikael along. And so here he was, the day after Sorting, to cement his first friendship at breakfast. "Morning Rhys," he greeted as he took his seat beside him. He wasn't sure if calling his roommate by his given name was a little brazen, but he figured that it sounded friendlier than referring to him by his last name.

Rhys Chamberlin was enjoying his time at Hogwarts so far. He might not exactly like some of the people there, but that was to be expected. Mikael Nightray was just annoying and a ****. Rhys played with his food though, really wishing that he were at home, enjoying the meal that his parents cooked. He missed his mom and dad. He even missed the babies. He looked up through his glasses when his roommate came up to him and greeted him. He liked Julian. He seemed like a cool kid. He just had no idea how he was related to Mikael. "Hey Julian. What's going on?" Rhys asked with a friendly expression. He had no qualms against him, so long as he was being genuine about being nice with him. Rhys would not exactly tolerate someone who would have ulterior motives if he could see them outright.

Julian didn't know how to have friends. While there were kids around his age in the Manor, it wasn't exactly like he grew up in a very sociable home. In fact, the Heads' children were around his age. Eurydice was older than him by a year and Annika was younger by half a year. Not exactly kids Father would approve of him befriending. Which is why now, Julian was slightly at a loss on how to be friends with Rhys Chamberlin. He'd already decided to be friends with the other boy, especially with the benefits of getting information about Mikael and his boyfriend. He just didn't know how to go about it. "Not many," he said in response to the question perhaps a little confused so he tried to steer the subject in a more comfortable? known? topic. "Are you ready for classes?" That was good right? Or maybe... "Did you sleep well?" He was definitely not used to small talk.
