I Should Have Stayed Home...

Valerie Abigail Layne hated herself for choosing to attend Hogwarts New Zealand. It was not at all like home. She did not like being around so many people. She knew she should have stayed home and gotten home-schooled like her sister. Valerie was not used to sharing. At home, she had everything she could ever want, and she did not have to share any of it. She was a spoiled brat. She did not like sharing, caring, or any of the crap that her parents tried to feed here. She liked to be on her own. Her father always cursed her by saying, "You are just going to end up living a lonely life like this, Abigail." Valerie rolled her eyes and took a seat on a bench in the Courtyard. Who actually believed that. She was going to live the dream, and she was going to do anything so that she could. Nothing would be in her way. She would remove all obstacles from her course. That was how it was going to be. Her stubborn nature would not allow it to be any other way.

Valerie dropped-no-threw her book on the ground. She was homesick. She missed being at home where she did not have to put up with a bunch of people she did not know. It was throwing her over the edge. Valerie did not know how to cope with everything. She was horrible with people. She didn't care about others like she cared about herself. Val would do anything to make sure she that she made it. Others feeling and thoughts did not matter. It was like the people around her weren't even there. In this world, it was only her. Valerie grunted and pushed her bangs out of her face. She had been too lazy to put her hair up. "Laziness will turn you into a bum." her mothers voice rang in her head. The Slytherin sighed. She was gymnast for Merlin's sake! How did she even find the time to be lazy?!

Royel Santiago-Cruz was trying to enjoy his time away from home. He had found adjusting to be difficult. He was used to being told what to do. He had more freedom here, and it was kind of scary. He felt like he was lost in a sea of people. He had no guidance, and no boss. Not only was he figuratively lost, but he was literally lost as well. The map he had been given by an upperclassmen had gotten his lost. He had discarded it a long time ago. Royel surely would be able to find his own way. He was still getting used to having thoughts of his own. Roy preferred being told what to do. Independence was not one of his strong points. He was more of a communist. He had no problem being told what to do. He had no problem with letting somebody else control his life. He felt that more things got done that way.

He walked into what he believed was the Courtyard. It looked like a courtyard, so he just assumed it was. He was very open to correction. He took a seat on a bench. He took in his surroundings. Students, laughter, walkways, and flowers. It was beautiful. The sound of laughter made his heart flutter. What did his laugh sound like? His family was not one for jokes. His home was a quiet one, excluding the yelling and noise of JoJo and Orlando. Sometimes Antonello whenever he came over. That was rare though. His half brother loved to mess with him and go through his stuff. Royel hated it passionately, and Antonello was the only one that could make him lose his composure and scream and yell in anger. Royel looked from his twiddling thumbs to the ground. He had heard something fall to the ground. The girl next to him had thrown her book to the ground. "How abusive." he thought sourly in his head. After sighing, he stood up and slowly bent down and picked the book up from the ground. He sat back down and offered the book back to the girl. He examined her. She was fidgeting, and the look on her face screamed out that she was stressed. "You dropped this." he finally managed to say to her. He hoped she would calm down. Royel did not react to anger or attitude well. He shut down whenever such things were aimed towards him. "Is it anything you want to talk about?" he asked. He did not know if the girl noticed how open she showed her emotions. It was very easy to see that something was wrong.

Valerie had all her life been a gymnast. Her parents had started her off young, and now, she had gotten so far. She was not going to let Hogwarts ruin her. She would never let all of her hard work get wasted. She refused to let anyone take anything from her. She would not be controlled. She would get what she wanted, and she would get it when she wanted it. Valerie was very demanding. She never took no for an answer. Her pride would not allow her to do such a silly thing. The day she let someone control her would be the day she died. She was going to be a leader. She was going to be the one giving orders. She was a dictator at heart. That was why her parents thought she was so hard to control. She already had a strong personality.

She turned her head to glare at the person who had sat next to her. As long as he was not making noise, she was fine with him. His robes told her that he was in Ravenclaw. He must be smart. He must make good decisions. Valerie often made bad decisions. She would always let her anger get to her, and then she would become aggressive. She crossed her legs and removed her eyes from the boy. He looked like the loner type. He was aware of his surrounding, but he gave off the aura of being a loner. The boy was most likely not worth her time. She ran another hand through her hair. She did not have an owl that she could use to write her parents. She would send them a Howler for letting her make the stupid decision in coming to Hogwarts. She turned her head to the boy again. He was holding out her book to her. He was freakishly quiet. How could she have not sensed that he was moving? Strange. Finally, the boy spoke. His voice was soft for a guy. Valerie rolled her eyes. She took the book from the boys hand only to throw it on the ground again. "I didn't drop it." she hissed sourly at the boy. So many things were going through her head talking to this boy just made her head hurt even more. Valerie snorted at the next words that came out of his mouth. How did he even suspect that something was wrong. "I really preferred it when you were quiet." she said, irritation clear in her voice.
