Open after Kadi posts with Ethan

Emery had been pleased when his order arrived this morning with the owl post, he had spent most of his allowance on it and it had taken a bit longer than he had expected. The big box of chocolate frogs had drawn a few stares at the table this morning, but Emery had ignored them. He had taken the box with him to a quieter spot, opting to sit at an empty table in the student lounge to open them one by one. He didn't care about the chocolate, though he did eat one of the frogs while opening the first few packs. No, Emery was looking for the few rare cards he didn't have yet. Or even better, a misprint of a card he did already have. He scoffed as he opened his sixth chocolate frog, not watching where the frog jumped off to as he put the second Albus Dumbledore of the day on the pile of cards. So far, none of them were new to him. But thankfully, he still had a few left.

Ethan couldn't remember when he left his notebook and he was trying, and failing, to remain calm about it. He had spent all morning retracing his steps and had found his way to the student lounge. He didn't come here that often but he had stopped by yesterday after class to do some reading. Rationally Ethan knew it wasn't the end of the world if it was really gone but the thought pulled as his heart like a splinter. He had so much work in that notebook. It was full of field reports form his time in the forests, sketches, and the letters from his mother. The letters had slowed down a lot now that he was in school and he wasn't sure if they were just taking longer or what. There was still a small part of him that hoped he didn't have to come back here next year and could transfer to Ilvermorny to be closer to his mom, but that hope was fading fast. Ethan was so wrapped up in his own throughs as he peeked under tables and moved cushions around that didn't notice the chocolate frog on the ground until he stepped on it. The chocolate was fairly soft and he lost his footing immediately, the next thing he knew he was groaning and on his back. "Ouch." he wheezed.

Emery didn't notice Ethan until he fell, jumping a bit at the sudden commotion. He looked down at the ground, frowning a bit at the sight of his roommate. He had never quite warmed to Ethan, though he couldn't quite explain why he didn't like him, even to himself. "What are you doing there?" He asked him, frown deepening.

Ethan had to take a moment before he tried to sit up. The fall had knocked the wind out of him and he clutched his chest as he struggled into a sitting position. "Was that... yours?" he groaned as the air worked its way into his lungs once more. He pointed to the smear of chocolate his fall had left on the floor. He didn't really even need Emery to answer because he spotted the trading cards on the table in front of his roommate. "You should be careful where those things jump off to." he said, irritably as he stood up. He had been wary of chocolate frogs since he found out about them. He knew it was just a charm that made them move but it still made his skin crawl.

Emery shrugged when Ethan asked if that was him. He looked pointedly at the chocolate frog wrappers on the table, as he felt like they should have given Ethan an answer. "I'll try." He said dryly, before opening another one. It jumped in Ethan's direction, landing on his foot. "Oops." He added, sounding not the least bit sorry.

Ethan frowned at Emery's response. The other boy could at least pretend to feel bad. "What are you even doing?" he asked when he noticed the cards stacked up in front of him. Was he looking for a specific one? Before he could ask anything else there was another chocolate frog loose and it jumped and landed on his foot. "Ugh." he groaned and shook it off and it hopped away. "You're just wasting them?" he asked even more annoyed. What was the point if you weren't going to eat them? He did a quick count of the cards and the unopened boxes and tried to count just how much he had spent on all of it just to basically throw it away, and his frowned deepened.

Emery had started unpealing the next one, frowning when Ethan asked him what he was doing. It seemed pretty obvious to hum, so he didn't give the boy an answer at first. It wasn't until Ethan said he was wasting the frogs that Emery snorted and answered. "I don't buy these for the mediocre chocolate." He said with a huff. "Nobody buys these for the frogs, do they?" He added, gesturing to the cards like they spoke for themselves.

Ethan rolled his eyes when Emery asked if anyone bought them from the frogs. "I don't know." he said exasperated and held up his hands. Whether people did or not he didn't really care either. He didn't like them but that wasn't the point either. "The cards are all the same anyways." he scoffed. "Look you have two Dumbledore already!" he pointed out and grabbed the duplicate off the table.

Emery rolled his eyes at Ethan's response, glancing at him. "They don't." He said. "It was a rhetorical question. The only important part of chocolate frogs are the cards." He said coolly as if it was a fact everyone should really know by now. But then Ethan said all the cards were the same, and Emery sat up in indignation. "They are not all the same." He snapped. "Some are just more rare than others." He glared at Ethan as he grabbed one of his cards. "I don't have two of Dumbledore's cards, I actually have seventeen, counting those two. He's not a rare card." He said, a sneer on his face. "Everyone knows that."
