Bailey couldn’t believe it was already her final year as Quidditch captain, and at the school completely. She clutched her broom as she was overwhelmed with the emotion of organising her final try-outs. She wanted to win, she’d never wanted anything more in her life and she knew as a co-captain and seeker so much of that responsibility fell on her shoulders. She had to be better.

Once everyone had gathered and were ready to start, Bailey got everyone’s attention. “Welcome to this years Hufflepuff try-outs, my name is Bailey Walden-Cade and I’m one of your co-captains, my fellow captain is Marley Owens-Lee, the rules are the same as always, last years team keep your spots and alternates need to try-out again along with anyone else wanting a spot on the team, let’s go,” Bailey wanted to keep her speech short and sweet. She doubted there would be any new faces on the team, unless anyone from the previous year hadn’t showed up and she hadn’t noticed.

OOCOut of Character:

Returning team members must post to keep their spot on the team. Alternates must try out again!

First years are not permitted to try-out without the approval of the captains. If you wish to have your first year try-out please PM one of the co-captains and we will discuss it. Please note it is unlikely first years will make the team but there's always a chance for some character development.

Jonah arrived at the Quidditch Pitch, broom in hand and buzzing with energy. He gave a small bow to the co-captains and a mumbled greeting before staying off to the side, ready to head up into the air to assist with try-outs. They came in last the previous year, but he was determined they'd win this year.

This was Hufflepuff's year - Susie could feel it. She'd been working out a bit over the holidays - not just because Eoghan had called her muscles non-existent, although that certainly had something to do with it - and the beater's bat already felt lighter in her hand as she took to the air. Tryouts were, in some ways, more fun than real games. There was no pressure, no fear of letting the team down. She had a great time swinging at bludgers, soaring around the pitch, whistling for her teammates when they scored. Yup. Definitely Hufflepuff's year.

Callie eagerly turned up at the quidditch pitch, ready for another year of the game. She hoped they could win this time around. She nodded to what was said and then flew up into the air.

Marley turned up to the Quidditch pitch with the rest of the team, waving to the team when she had been addressed by Bailey. The co-captain had hope that this year was Hufflepuff's year. She had a feeling. The girl listened to her co-captain, nodding along and agreeing to what she had to say. It wasn't long before they were up in the air, watching the players try their best.

Sofi had been playing as a Hufflepuff alt for two years already. She didn’t mind alt, there was something comforting about being the quiet support and the one who got to train without the pressure of the spotlight. But with her third season starting, and with Bailey currently holding the seeker position for her final season, Sofi knew this was a key year to play alt seeker again in the hopes she might make the full team next year. She arrived on pitch to give it her best shot. "Sofi Ayre trying out for seeker" she said, then she swung her leg over her broom and pushed off the ground. Up she flew, eyes scanning the pitch for the snitch.

She hovered for a few minutes, circling wide, her heart sinking as she didn't see the snitch. Maybe it wasn’t out yet she wondered until she saw it. Sofi shot forward with a burst of speed, following the snitch as it darted left, then up, then right, then it appeared to vanish. Sofi came to a hovering stop, panting and looking around. Then after a couple of long minutes, she saw the snitch near one of the goalposts again.

Sofi didn’t rush as much this time, she glided toward it and when close enough she reached out and closed her fingers around the snitch. It looked easy. To anyone watching, it probably was easy. But she knew it had taken a lot of hard work to get to this point. She just hoped it was enough.

Oz would be the first to admit he was kind of garbage as a Quidditch player. He certainly didn't have any natural talent, his shorter size meant his physical power was a little more limited (though it did give him a slight advantage in speed and avoiding bludgers) and frankly he was probably just making up the numbers. But he wasn't a quitter, and he knew that making up the numbers was somewhat necessary. Besides, it was his last year at Hogwarts and he'd give it his all before he graduated. He at least owed Bailey and Marley that much. He nodded at the captains and took to the skies to help the other hopefuls out, practicing passing and shooting while he was at it.

Doyle had to admit he wasn't sure this was a great idea, but he wanted to get more involved at school and since there was only one sport offered he figured he'd give it a shot. Not that he was that into sports but he did like flying. He stood gripping his broom tightly as the captain spoke, his palms sweaty. When it was his turn he stepped up and tried to seem confident, or as confident as he could be. "Doyle Mooney and I'm trying out for keeper." he said before taking to the air. He hesitated waiting to see which set of hoops the older girl would fly to and he took to the other. He figured keeper would be easiest to pick up. It was just being a goalie, all he had to do was keep the ball out. Doyle took a deep breath as the first chaser came his way but as the quaffle came at him he winced at first and was too slow to block it. Embarrassed, he chased after the ball and threw it back into the game. Thankfully he did better the next time and was able to block one of the shots, barely, but the success gave him more confidence as the try outs went on. While he wasn't perfect he did better than expected and by the time he landed he felt pretty good about the whole thing.

Dominic was looking forward to another year of quidditch. Whilst he wasn't as good as some of his team mates, he enjoyed being part of a group sport and hoped that this year would bring them some victory, as they all definitely deserved it. He gathered around as Bailey spoke to the group trying out, and once everyone headed into the air, Dominic followed suit, eager to test those trying out for keeper. He threw some good shots through the hoops and was exhausted when tryouts came to an end. He wished the new faces good luck before heading back up to the castle to clean himself up.

Nox hadn’t made the team the previous year which had been a shame, but he hadn't expected Bailey to show favouritism, but the girl who made the team ahead of him as a beater hadn't showed up, so maybe he had a chance? He made his way down to the pitch and stood with the other students waiting to try-out.

Once the try-outs got started and it was Nox’s turn to try-out, he stepped forward and cleared his throat. “Nox Walden-Cade, trying out for Beater,” He smiled awkwardly at his sister and the other co-captain, climbed onto his broom and took to the air. It was difficult as a beater because all he could do was sit and wait for bludgers to come to him, or for him to spot them and go after them. He spotted one going after Sofi the girl trying out for seeker so he leaned forward on his broom and shot forward to get between the bludger and her, swung his bat and collided with the bludger sending it flying off away from her. He continued flying around hitting bludgers away from other members of the team, including one from Bailey who hadn’t been paying attention. He hoped that would work in his favour.

Once Nox was finished he returned to the ground and dismounted his broom, thanked both captains and left the pitch. He was nervous to find out his fate but he was pretty happy with how he did.

OOCOut of Character:
Try-outs will close in 48 hours. Any first years given permission to try-out may do so.

Amias hadn't thought he'd be allowed to try-out but he knew one of the best ways to make friends was quidditch, and so he had asked permission and been allowed to try-out. He was hopeful that he might make an alternate, but knew that as a first year it was pretty unlikely. The boy glanced at the other people, sure that they would all be much better than him and feeling increasingly nervous. Amias finally was at the front and looked at the captain, blushing a little, they were both so pretty. "Hi," his voice cracked. "Amias Driscoll, and chaser," he said. he didn't really look at them, and then got on his broom and into the air.

Certainly Amias wasn't as uncoordinated in the sky as he was on the ground. He had been flying for a couple of years, he had never been on a team before but he knew how to fly and knew how to pass the ball. He liked being a chaser, because it was like when he played basketball with his dad. He fly into the sky, and joined with other chases trying-out. He managed to get the quaffle, and passed it to a much older player who managed to score. He caught the quaffle a second time, and Amias tried to score, he missed. Amias got the quaffle a few more times, largely passing to other teammates. Though he did attempt to score again and managed to actually do it.

Amias flew back to the ground when the tryout came to an end sure that he hadn't done terribly. Though knew he was certainly not guaranteed a spot.
