Little Red Riding Hood, otherwise known as Cecily Rambolt, rose from the staff table. She was elated to be able to address Hogwarts New Zealand at its Halloween Feast this year. When she opened her mouth, however, she broke into tears. The costumes, floating jack-o-lanterns, and pitchers of pumpkin juice were just too much for her. But who could blame her? After all, the whole event was so darn cute. There was no shame in Little Red returning to her seat. She was brave, hardy enough to withstand the stares of an audience while she blubbered and sniffled incoherently onto the shoulder of the Muggle Studies professor.
The dark-haired man next to her realized he had responsibilities. When his boss was down and out, he had to take charge. Professor Gabriel Lloyd couldn't criticize Cecily; he'd learned throughout his few years of fatherhood and marriage that pregnant women had their days. This was definitely one of them.
Gabe stood up, smiling at the motley horde of ghosts and ghouls. There were old and new faces, some obscured by masks and magic. He could almost hear the house tables, which had been pushed to the walls, groaning under mountains of candy and food. It was good to be back.
"Welcome, students, to this marvelous occasion we call the Halloween Feast," he began, "I'm Gabriel Lloyd, the new Deputy Headmaster. Feel free to eat until you burst- but please don't burst. There will be enough of a mess to clean up already. If need be, someone will roll you out of here- eventually." He smirked and cleared his throat. Gabe reckoned he better get to the matter at hand and quit nauseating the crowd with his jokes. There was a reason he'd become an educator and not a stand-up comedian.
"Ahem- We will be holding the costume contest momentarily," the Deputy Headmaster continued, "In the meantime, enjoy yourselves! Halloween only happens once a year, folks." Gabe practically dropped into his seat. While he wasn't in costume, he was going to be a pig for Halloween, and proud of it. All of the food, the glorious food, could have been in a trough as far as Gabe was concerned. Now where to begin?
