Fifty years. It sounded so short in the grand span of things, especially when compared with schools in other parts of the world, but Kahurangi was proud to be here to celebrate such an important milestone for the school, especially with how it timed out with her own upcoming anniversary. Next year would be her twenty fifth at Hogwarts - half of the school's life, and not too far off half of her own. Hogwarts was home, both for Kahurangi and now Hinemoa as well - seeing her daughter running around in uniform after watching her grow from baby to child toddling around these halls was... there weren't really words for it.
So the anniversary had her in good spirits all around, and she had been quick to offer to help Angel out with his event. Much as she wanted to get out onto the water herself, Kahurangi knew that kids splashing around in boats all day would need plenty of kai to keep them going and she had spent all morning putting down a hāngī to keep students fed in between activities. She had been tending the pit as Angel and James set up, and finally it was time to reap the rewards of the work. It could be done with a flick of her wand but there was something satisfying about doing tasks like these manually, humming to herself as she picked up a shovel and made quick work of the dirt covering - she was probably a complete mess, but she couldn't quite bring herself to care. It was a holiday, students could deal with a teacher getting a little mucky. She pulled away the cloths and inhaled the welcome, familiar smell of ash and roasted meat with a contented sigh. The smell was enough to draw anyone with a rumbling stomach closer, and Kahurangi looked over her shoulder as she reached into the pit to pull the first basket out. "Alright, I need someone to help me carry these over to the table!"
