Fourth Years Lesson One

Mallory had set up the classroom the way she liked, giving it a quick cleaning that morning before arranging her desk. Amara was curled underneath her large oak desk, fast asleep, and all of Mallory’s notes and lesson plans were arranged neatly on the desk itself, turned to face out to the rows of seats so she could sit and still supervise her students. She'd spoken to Sam, and between the few days the boys spent with their father and the babysitting her fellow Professor offered, Mallory'd gotten several of her lessons covered. She wasn't used to being away from her new baby Nikolay, he was just so little. She shook her head, trying not to worry.

She had decorated the desk with a line of flowers, most of them shorter, creating a small barrier along the edge of the desk that she could still see over. She had taken care getting dressed that morning, her light powder blue robes swishing gently around her feet and her dark mahogany hair pulled back in a braided chignon.

She rose from her desk as the students filed in, smiling kindly as the last of them settled in their seats. She clapped her hands lightly to get their attention, looking over the fresh young faces of the fourth years. “Dobroye utro, good morning my dears,” She greeted gently, her Russian accent a more subtle but still there. “My name is Professor Mallory Grayveson, and I’ll be your Professor until fifth year,” She raised a hand, the chalk raising to write out her name in an elegant script behind her.

She smiled fondly at them, eager to begin today's lesson. “Today, I would like us to go over what you’ve learned so far,” she smiled, stopping by another student. “Would you like to start us off, my dear? What was a charm you learned in your first year?” She smiled at the answer, praising the student and moving to the next, going through the room at random until each student had told her a charm they’d learned from the first, second, or third year, distributing varied amounts of points depending on their answers but still praising each answer she received.

When they had finished, she came to a stop in front of her desk again. “Very good, my dears, I can see you’ve all done well in these classes. If you would be so kind, turn your eyes back to the board. These are the charms we’ll be covering this semester.” She waved her hand, the chalk lifting up again to list the charms. “I would like each of you to make an effort to stop in and see me, my office is also open from breakfast until dinner every day. I want to see each of you personally before the next lesson so we can discuss what you’d like to get from this class, I would love the chance to get to know each of you, and work on a personal study plan so I can assist each of you in the best way possible,

Mallory smiled, waving her hand and opening the door to the class before moving to sit down. “I have paper copies of your reading assignment for the semester, feel free to grab one before you go. We’ll begin our wand work next week.

Alana hadn’t thought much about the fact that it was her last year with certain professors until they started mentioning it in her classes. Some she would miss, some not so much. Professor Grayveson was one of the ones she would miss, she’d become surprisingly fond of the charms professor even even though she had been away for a year during her time at the school so far. Alana didn’t know when the professor had become one of her favourites, she just knew the knowledge that she wouldn’t be her teacher in her next school year made her a little sad.

She sat in her usual seat in the charms classroom and listened to Professor Grayveson introduce herself for the benefit of any new people. Once she moved on to what they would be learning about over the new year, Alana started taking notes, getting down the names of each of the new spells they would be learning. Once she was finished taking notes she packed up her things and made her way out of the classroom after being dismissed by Professor Grayveson.

Thomas was slowly getting back to the normal routine of things, and he was already homesick if he was being honest. He usually had that feeling whenever he came back from the short breaks or for the new year. The Hufflepuff boy quickly packed up the things he needed for the lesson before quickly making his way down to his charms classroom. Once he arrived, he took a seat in his usual spot, took out the things he needed for the lesson and placed them on the desk in front of him.

Thomas moved his attention towards the professor as the professor got started with the lesson. It seemed they were going to go over what they had learned so far within the last few years as well as what they would be learning this year. Thomas made sure to take note of what they'd be learning this year as well as what the professor was saying, as he didn't want to miss out on anything important. Thomas gulped nervously when it looked like they had to go around the tell what they had learned so far. It wasn't long until it was his turn. "Um.. Alohamora," Thomas says softly, thinking for a moment. He was glad the next person said theirs, he didn't like the attention all on him. He nodded his head from time to time throughout the lesson as the professor spoke, as he understood what the professor was saying.

It wasn't long until the lesson had come to an end and they were dismissed. Thomas quickly packed up his things as well as tidying up his area. He then says a quick but appreciative thanks and goodbye to the professor, before heading out of the classroom with his classmates.

Rosalind was yawning as she entered the classroom, giving a smile and a wave to the professor before taking her seat. Charms was a pretty interesting subject and she wondered idly what sort of spells they'd be covering this semester. She raised her hand as the professor asked for spells they'd learned. "Wingardium leviosa?" she suggested. The professor continued on, and Rosalind listened patiently to the rest of the students. She then got the sheet of spells they'd be learning, looking over it eagerly. The lesson ended soon after and Rosalind moved on to the next thing.

Cassandra was having fun with her classes so far, there were lots of new faces around and she was enjoying it. Far more than she'd expected, well not really but it was a nice thought to at least think that it had surprised her. When in reality this had been the whole point, to meet new people and get away from the normalcy of her life at Scotland. She gave a smile to her Professor as she walked to the room and sat down, it was funny how so many mentioned that this was their last year teaching the students. First and last year of her attending their lessons whether she'd stay or not, which she wouldn't.

Cassie wasn't shy about talking in class so when she was picked to answer the question what she'd learned in her previous years she picked a random spell that came to mind in the moment. "Hominem Revelio?" Now all she had to do was pray that they taught the same things in the same years here as they did back at home. Though perhaps she'd picked such a basic spell that it wouldn't even be an issue she'd have to worry about. The thing that the Gryffindor was quick to notice too, was that the Professor was awfully beautiful and sweet. Who would have thought, the Professor back at home was a bit snarky but fun nonetheless. As the lesson wrapped up Cassandra packed her things and stopped by the Professors desk before walking out. "Hello, just wanted to introduce myself. I am Cassandra, Cohen if you'd like the last name too, I am a new transfer so figured I'd give you a name to match to the new face." She said with a smile and a tilt of her head, "Anyways I enjoyed the first lesson and am Looking forward to the rest soo see ya next week!" The fourth year quipped before turning on her heels and walking out the room.
