The Heta Omega meeting had gone without a hitch, for the most part. She had known Athena wouldn't be happy about the change of position without a word to her, but somehow she hadn't expected her cousin to challenge her on it. But maybe, deep down, she had hoped she would. It was lonely, not talking to Athena, but it had been clear to Emilia she had picked Derek's side in their breakup from the start. That alone was a betrayal, but the fact that they were now dating just rubbed salt into the wound every time she saw them together. It was a reminder that even Derek would pick Athena over Emilia, which just confirmed everything Emilia already doubted about herself.
Emilia had taken some of her Muggle Studies with her to the gardens, as it was a beautiful day in November, summer just around the corner. She was trying to read a chapter in her textbook in preparation for an essay, but her mind kept wandering, as did her gaze. The gardens were beautiful, with flowers blooming everywhere. Eventually, Emilia's attention was captured by a pretty pale butterfly, taking off from a nearby flower. Almost transfixed, Emilia closed her book and placed it on the bench next to her, not taking her eyes away from the creature. Ever since she was young, Emilia had loved butterflies. And she felt the urge to follow this one, to see it up close. Abandoning her book, Emilia crept closer, which made the butterfly flutter to the next bush, and the next. Emilia continued to follow it, watching the tiny wings as it fluttered on, with her following for now.
