First Years, Lesson Two

Professor Wolf watched as the students filed in, ready to get things underway. "Morning, everyone," he greeted, scanning the room. "I hope you did your reading. Can someone tell me what spell we’re focusing on today, and what it does?" He pointed to a student who answered, and the old man nodded with approval. "Right. Lumos. It lights up the tip of your wand, so you can see in the dark—like a candle or flashlight. Simple, but useful."

He took a step forward, voice softening just a little. "Find a partner today—someone you might not know well. You’re working together for this semester. Your grades stay your own, but no one learns in isolation. You’ve got support—from me, from your friends. Remember that."

"Any questions about Lumos?" he asked, pausing to answer a few. Then, with a small wave of his wand, the lights dimmed. "I’m here if you need help. Once you’ve got Lumos down, try countering it with Nox."

Professor Wolf moved among the students quietly, offering advice when asked. As the lesson wrapped, he flicked the lights back on. "I saw some good work today. Keep up the reading—next week it’s Wingardium Leviosa. Have a good one." He settled back at his desk, the faintest trace of a smile crossing his face as the students left.
OOC Notes: Please make sure to do your reading on Alohomora and Colloportus. Points will be awarded for participation, study posts, and practicing the spells Lumos and Nox.

Daviana had been surprised by how much she learned by just reading the chapters in her book. She had tested out Lumos and Nox outside of class and had some success, but nothing consistent. The Gryffindor took a seat and raised her hand when Professor Wolf quickly asked them a question. "We're talking about Lumos," she said, glad to have been correct.

When she was instructed to find a partner, she ended up with a girl from a different house. She gave her a smile and waved her wand a few times before the tip eventually lit up. She grinned at the girl and waited for her success with the spell, as well. Once her partner had the wand lit, Daviana tried to turn it off. "Nox," she said, and it immediately dimmed. Her partner seemed to have success as well, and after a few moments, Daviana kept going back and forth with the spells, turning her wand on and off. At the end of class, she made a note of what they would be doing next week and packed up her book in her bag. She stuck her wand in her robe pocket and headed out of the class.

ooc: feel free to use Daviana as a partner if you fit the description!

Cassian sat and listened to Professor Wolf as he told them to partner up for the class and for the rest of the semester. Cassian partnered with a random student from a different house, and the two of them spent the rest of the lesson going back and forth with both Lumos and Nox. Once they had both mastered the spells, they put away their wands and left the classroom.

ooc: feel free to partner up with Cassian.

Leena felt conflicted when the professor in their Charms class told them to partner up with someone they didn't know. This was the lesson Leena was able to share with her brother, the one chance she got to spend time with him, and now the professor wanted them to split up here, too? "Maybe it will be a good chance to meet other students?" she had whispered to the Gryffindor, not wanting to disobey the professor. She looked around for another Gryffindor, one that maybe she didn't already recognise. There was Daviana, but Leena and Lilith had already spoken to her, too. Instead, the first year found a boy that shared a room with Leo, hoping he didn't mind her joining him. "Hi," she smiled, lowering her eyes and offering him to practice the spells first. "Lumos," she copied his pronunciation, watching at the tip of her wand lit up in front of them. It was bright enough that she was sure it beat any flashlight they had at their home. Once again, becoming a lazy wizard was starting to sound enticing. "Nox," Leena repeated, watching in relief as the light went out, too. It would have been incredibly awkward if the tip stayed lit up. "My name's Leena," she introduced herself to the boy once they were finished with their demonstration. "You're Cassian, aren't you?" she asked, trying to recall the name her brother had sent her over with. @Cassian Potter-Cade
