First Years, Lesson Four

Landon leaned back against his desk as he waited for his first years to arrive. After everyone had taken their seat, Landon said brightly, "Hello! I hope you're all in a good mood because today we will be checking our pumpkins. Put on your gloves and workrobes, because you will need them. You will be harvesting your pumpkin. Also, grab your pruning shears. Follow me!" Landon happily went out of the greenhouse, excited to see how everyone's pumpkins were getting along. He had his black, leather gloves on and the shears in his left hand and he hoped everyone else did too.

"Locate your pumpkin. All of them should be ready to take off the vine. Take out the pruning shears and have a firm grip." Landon demonstrated with his pumpkin. "Snip your pumpkin from its vine, like so. It may take a bit of strength." Landon easily snipped his from the vine. His pumpkin was free and he just smiled at his students, proud of all their efforts so far as he watched everyone begin to get to work. The man went around to each of the first years and helped them if need be, which he rather enjoyed doing. Thankfully, everyone seemed to get it and, once he was sure everyone's pumpkins were off the vine, he retrieved his wand out of his pocket and spoke again.

"Now, we will be taking the pumpkins to the castle. We'll have to levitate them as they will be much too heavy to carry yourselves and I don’t want anyone getting hurt. Everyone must attempt to levitate their pumpkin. Whether or not you have learned this in Charms yet, the levitating charm is Wingaridium Leviosa." He made the students repeat the words correctly, and then practiced the swish and flick movement. "Cast the charm on the pumpkin, and we will be going off to the castle." Landon cast the charm on the pumpkin and levitated it a bit above the ground. "I'll follow you so we won't have any screw ups." Landon walked behind them, making sure there weren't any mistakes and that no pumpkins fell onto the ground. Once they got to the castle, they went inside and lowered their pumpkins down in the entrance hall. Landon had ordered a few house elves to meet them and take them away, which they did. Once they were done, they left to go back to the greenhouse.

Assignment: RP the lesson. At the end, tell the house elf what you want your pumpkin to be turned into. Include a picture for extra credit. Please also note, RPing your character simply lifting the pumpkin with their bare hands will get them an EE grade.

Despite her adamance that she was going to spend more time this semester getting to know the friends she is already making, Tori has actually not done anything more than study. She wakes up with a headache, goes to the library with a headache and then goes to bed with a headache and honestly she's blaming the textbooks. She's never been a reader and now that she's constantly having to read all the time (and it's not even for fun!) she feels like she's probably not getting enough sleep. Honestly she needs a holiday and she had been hoping that Brightstone would help, but so far no such luck. She needs to talk to someone, maybe Eoghan, about a better study practice because she's sure he's going to know how to get her brain to work right, even if se has to beg him and she doesn't really think she will need to do that - hopefully.

She beams with excitement as she follows the professor to the pumpkins, eager to see what has become of them since last week. She isn't sure how they will progress, but she's optimistic for it either way. Kneeling beside the vine, she tugs on her gloves and grabs the pruning sheers, she wants to do this right and not accidentally cause any problems. It takes her a bit of effort, but she's able to eventually snip her pumpkin free of its vine, staring at the thick green vine with annoyance at how long it takes her. She shakes her head before happily following professor Carter's instructions, focusing on the wand movement and quickly saying Wingardium Leviosa for her pumpkin to wobble into the air. Once she gets it to the houseelves she asks them to just put it somewhere nice, since she doesn't like pumpkin anyway and leaves the area. The smell is sort of off-putting and the thought of having to eat the pumpkin makes her want to gag.

Winnie walked into the herbology greenhouse, she could admit she did not love this class, She looked to the professor as she finished putting on her gloves and her wardrobes. She followed the class outside and easily found her pumpkin in amongst the rest of them. She nodded and then cut her pumpkin from the vine. It took a bit of effort, but she managed it. Then Winnie took out her wand, pointed it at the pumpkin and said, ”Wingardium Leviosa,” and she was pleased when it immediately worked. She then used the spell to carry it up to the kitchens. She told the house-elf to make a soup with it, something moderately healthy which she knew she would at least enjoy. With that the lesson was over, and she had to go back to the greenhouse to grab her things.

William was looking forward to returning to the herbology greenhouse for the latest lesson knowing he would be able to get his hands dirty as a nice distraction from the theory heavy lessons like Transfiguration and History of magic. He wasn’t in the greenhouse long before Professor Carter lead them outside to check on the progress on the pumpkins they had planted during their previous lesson. To his surprise, they were ready to be harvested and that would be the focus of their lesson. He watched and followed the instructions on how to properly harvest them and when it was his turn William took his pair of sheers and got to work. With a firm grip on his sheers he cut his pumpkin from the vine and inspected it.

Once he and the others had their pumpkins ready to transport, he cast the levitation charm on it and made their way up to the castle. As luck would have it, his family house elf Dakrey was one of the elves who had met the students to collect the pumpkins. William greeted him warmly and thanked him when he took it off his hands. He then returned to the greenhouse to collect his things and then left for good.
