First Years, Lesson Five: Learning Flammeus Tailora (match into a needle)

Edward stood at the front of the classroom holding a large box of matches which he casually tossed from one hand to the other. "Good morning! How is everyone?" He asked by way of making conversation as the first years settled for the lesson. He got the attention of the a student on the front row and motioned that he was going to throw them the matchbox "Ready?" He asked, then lightly tossed the box of matches for them to catch, "Oooh nice catch, have a house point. I'd like you to take a single match then pass the box along please. Nobody even think about lighting it unless you want to lose several house points and get absolutely drenched when I put out the flame." He told them with a wink, yet his voice was stern enough for his students to know he was being serious.

Once everyone had a match, Professor Pirrip summoned back the box and removed one match for the demonstration. "Today we are turning matches into needles and using the 'three tap' method again. The incantation for this is 'Flammeus Tailora'." He tapped his wand and cast "Flammeus Tailora" at the match. In the blink of an eye the wooden shaft became sleek metal, and the red phosphorus tip shifted into the needle eye for threading. "It is that simple. Well, as always, I will be walking around the room as you work. If you need something, raise your hand. And please turn your needles in for grading once you have finished. You may begin!"
Note: "Finite" is a counter-spell, not Untransfiguration, and shouldn't be used to reverse any transfigurations.

Homework: RP trying to turn your match into a needle! Extra credit to whoever claims the student catching the box of matches. Tag @Professor Edward Pirrip if you would like me to interact with your character!

Freddie sat down - not at his usual desk, but at the front, near the door. So he could just go, if he had to. He hoped he wouldn't have to. A month ago, Transfiguration had been his least favourite class, but now he woke up on Thursdays looking forward to it more than any other. He still couldn't believe how nice Professor Pirrip was last week. Freddie didn't even say his leg was hurting - didn't say anything - just looked upset, probably - and Professor Pirrip came over. That was so nice.

Sitting up, Freddie held out his hands. He could definitely catch the matchbox. Crap - it'd be embarrassing if he didn't catch it...

He caught it. Grinning, he took out a single match and passed the box to the person beside him. Would anyone light one? Freddie wanted to see someone get drenched. He watched eagerly as the box made its way around the room, just in case. When everyone had a match, he finally sat back, twirling his own between his thumb and index finger. He knew the three-tap thing now. Professor Pirrip helped him with it a few days ago, when they went over Scriopea again. That didn't mean it was going to be easy though.

He took out his wand. Holding the match in his palm, he tapped it gently three times. "Flammeus... Tailorer," he said, already forgetting the incantation. He stopped and listened to his classmates, then tried again. "Flammeus Tailora." OK, he got the taps, and the words - now he had to focus. Needle, needle, needle. "Flammeus Tailora." Needle! Freddie stood up, looking at it, peering through the eye. It even felt like real metal. Both ends were blunt, but that was probably a good thing, because he found this out by trying to prick his own arm. He held it like a tiny spear, making a few teasing jabs toward the boy next to him - not actually touching him, just trying to scare him - before taking it to Professor Pirrip. Hopefully he didn't see that.
