over her years of teaching Elvera had seen many different reactions to things in her class. some of them as subtle as a furrowed brow, some of them in the form of tears or smiles but occasionally some wereexplosive. such as today when one of her students must have seen something they didn't like and hurled one of her teacups at the wall before walking out of class. As the clatter of china falling still echoed through the classroom.
Unfortunately, there was really not much she could do at the time, with a room full of other students, other than pick up the pieces from the floor, trying hard not to read too much into the shapes of the pieces or the leaves that still clung to them.
once the class was over and the rest of her students had left elvera waited arounf wondering if Tanith would return for her things. as half an hour came and went it seemed less and less likely that she would return. she decided to pack up her things and return to her office. but as she picked up the girls bag she caught a glimpse of a window seat off one of the corridors of who she was fairly sure was tanith and herself sitting talking. She picked up the bag returned to her office to collect her cat and contemplated making them each a mug of hot chocolate but decided against it for the main reason that she was fairly sure most of it would end up on the floor before she got to where she was going. and she didn't want to be in the caretakers bad graces again. the shen made her way out of the office and down the stairs until she found her student sitting on one of the window seats like she had seen. "hello Tanith, may i join you?" she said softly as she approached. "how are you going?"[/b She asked genuinely concerned about her student's well-being.

Tanith wished she hadn't overreacted in class. But what she'd seen- she thought she'd seen- it had been too much. It couldn't be true. It couldn't. She wanted to scream, to cry, but no one here would understand. Would know what it felt like. She wanted to go home, to curl up with Tessa and Twila and Tullia and have them reassure her nothing was going to happen. That nothing could happen. Their parents were dead. They had to be. They hadn't come back- they'd never called, never written, never come home. It was the only thing Tanith wanted to accept.

She was curled up in a window seat, hating that she was crying but unable to stop herself. She had herself turned towards the window, knees to her chest, hands covering her face. She heard someone say her name- a voice she recognized. Of course the Professor had come after her. "No, go away," she managed with gasping breaths, knowing she was shaking and hating it. "I'll do detention later. Leave me alone," She was almost begging, her voice cracking more than once (much to her mortification). Tanith couldn't deal with anymore right now. She just couldn't.

Elvera saw Tanith shift away from her as she spoke and as she had drawn closer she had begun to realise that the girl was in tears, lots of tears. part of her wanted to step closer to the girl and rub circles on her back like she had done for her own daughter when she suffered nightmares. instead she stepped towards the window seat and sat down as far away from her student as she could as a way to let her know she was giving her space but also not leaving her. "I'm afraid i can't do that. I am here for as long as it takes, unless you would rather talk to the counsellor or another professor" she said.
when the girl said that she would do detention another time she turned towards the girl reaching a hand in her direction but not touching her. "Tanith. i don't know who you are doing detention with, but i can talk to them and try and reschedule it if you have somthing today, " she said. before realising that she had misinterpeted what the girl had said. "Oh, no. i am not here to give you detention. I am here because usually when someone reacts to something in my class its because they have seeen somthing disturbing. and I cant help but be concerned for them." she said.
