Fifth Years, Lesson Three

"Good morning 5th year, I trust you are all doing well." He took a small sip of his hot coffee before continuing, "Like last week, you have a quiz to complete, it should be slightly more difficult than the last, but, I still would hope that you have very little problems with it. However, unlike last week this is not an open book quiz so, close all your books and put them to the side."

1. What is the charm you use to clean things?

2. Alohomora does what?

3. What charm do you use to repair things?

4. What charm repels an object?

5. Homenum revelio does what?

Once it appeared that all the students were done, Professor Haden raised his wand and summoned all the quizzes to once again make a neat pile upon his desk. He smiled at the class as he got to his feet and while sipping the tea went to stand in front of the desk, "Today, class, we will be learning, the very interesting spell, Duro" He looked at the students, attempting to see if they knew what he was talking about. "Duro is the latin for, 'To harden, or solidify', which I'm sure you all know already, since, I trust you all did the reading" He flashed a small smirk to the students, before continuing, "The spell basically means that you can turn whatever target you have in front of you into stone. I will warn you now, while you are in theory capable of preforming this spell on a living thing, it is strictly forbidden within school walls and pretty forbidden outside them too, especially if the living thing is a person. Should you be careless enough to not listen to me, when I say how strictly forbidden it is," He took a small sip of his tea, before continuing, this was a fairly boring point of the lesson, but it was crucial. "if a person is under duro for too long, it can kill them. It could take hours, or minutes. You have been warned" While Misha did not believe that any of the students would cast the spell on others, he had to say it. At least if they then did, he could not be put at fault. Since he had told them, with this said, he took a moment to take one last sip of his tea before placing it on the table.

"To cast Duro, you must point your wand at the object and say it firmly. To reverse the spell use Finite" To demonstrate, he produce a red cloth from his pocket, then threw it into the air, and with a flick of his wand he stated, "Duro." The cloth suddenly seized up, turning into grey stone and in no time had clunked to the floor, Misha had to step back slightly to avoid it hitting his feel. "I do not wish you all to throw your cloths up in the air as I have done- I don't want there to be any injuries- so" he waved his wand, and clothes of varies colours flew out, and landed in front of the students. One for each of them. "Practice upon the desk, and if you can, try not to turn your desks to stone" The professor paused, as he felt his voice wane slightly, he clear his throat before starting back up, "The point of focus is the cloth. You can leave once you have turned your cloth to stone and successfully reversed it. And before you all get very interested in practicing, remember to read the chapter on Reducto for next week. Begin!"

RP the lesson, Attendance length post is fine
It is not necessary to do the quiz, it is extra credit!

The upper years was where the spells really started to get interesting and Aura found herself swiftly taking notes as Haden starting talking more and more about the charms they were studying. When the quiz appeared in front of her, she took a quick look at it, nodding at the simplistic questions clearly going over the things they had been learning from the lower years. Easy enough, she thought and filled in her answers quickly. The next topic of discussion was the spells they were studying and she pressed her lips together at his warning - she didn’t have any intention of turning anyone to stone, but it was good to warn people about for sure. It was a very dangerous spell. Soon the cloth appeared and she looked down at it, trying to imagine what it would look like as a stone piece of cloth. “Duro,” she said, watching as the cloth stopped flapping in the light breeze in the room and turned the shade of stone, because it was now stone. She smiled, satisfied with her work before she flicked her wand at it again. And the cloth softened as she cast Finite. She made a note to look up Reducto, so she could have a leg up for next week.

Teddy didn't mind the quizzes Professor Haden set them because they were so easy. OWLs were going to be a doddle if these were the sort of questions on the exam. He filled in his answers then turned his attention to the lesson on Duro. He made a note not to bring that spell into the dueling chamber, because much as it sounded like a good one for dueling, he didnt want to risk actually killing anyone. Teddy picked up the red cloth he'd been provided with and laid it on the table. He focused on it turning to stone then cast "Duro" when he was ready. The shift was instant and the fabric hardened into solid stone. Teddy was impressed with his work, tapping the stone a few times before he reversed the spell. Once he was done he looked around to see how his classmates were managing.

Lucy was in a great mood heading into class, ready to learn. There was another quiz but that was okay, Lucy could manage that. Once done, they were learning a new spell. It sounded interesting, though its practical uses eluded Lucy somewhat. She guessed conquering it made other spells easier or something. Tossing up a cloth, she tried the spell out: "Duro!" She missed the first time, but the second time she managed to make the cloth turn to stone at just the last minute. Pleased she'd accomplished the spell, once the lesson was finished up Lucy went on her way.

Callie walked into the charms classroom and took her usual spot in the room. She took the quiz as it was handed to her and then began writing her answers down. Wasting no time on it. It didn’t take her long and she was able to hand it in. The professor then moved on to the spell they were doing. She listened along to the description of what the spell did and then nodded as they were allowed to get started. She took a cloth and then pointed her wand at it. ”Duro,” he said and it took a few times before she got it right, and then it was much easier. Eventually the lesson was wrapped up and she was able to pack up and leave the room.

Enoch walked into the charms classroom and took his spot in the room. He glanced at the professor as the man got started by giving them a quiz. Enoch wrote his answers and then the professor continued with the lesson. He was keen to learn duro. He watched the professor do the spell and then tell them where they weren’t to do it. He rolled his eyes a little thinking anyone who tried to do that would be silly. He then took his wand and a cloth and then practiced the spell. He took a few tries before he got it, and then he headed out of the room.
