Fifth Years, Lesson Six

"I am very pleased with the results from most of your quizzes; I believe you all will do fine on your OWLs. I expect the best effort from each and every one of you."

He looked to the windows, and as planned, it was raining heavily outside. "Now, students, we will not be using a charm of a destructive nature today; rather, we will be using one that proves to be quite useful. Luckily, this spell can be used on anything; whether it be your face, your glasses, what have you."

"Today, after we cast this spell, you are going to be going outside into the rain, and I promise you will see the effects of this spell. The spell we are going to be learning today is Impervious."

Professor Haden paced as he pulled out a jacket, waving his wand and stating, "Impervius." A slight glow appeared around his jacket and then disappeared. "Now, students, cast this spell at an object, any object. If you are not confident in your abilities, I suggest you cast Impervious on an object or thing you are not afraid to get wet."

Once all of the students had cast the spell, or at least tried, Professor Haden led them out of the classroom, and in no time they were outside, the students somewhat tentative about bringing their things into the downpour. Without a worry, Misha stepped into the rain, his hair immediately becoming soaked. However, his jacket seemed to have a barrier around it; repelling the water perfectly and leaving the article of clothing perfectly dry.

He watched as the students examined their things, most of them remaining dry and repelling water also. Bellowing over the resounding downpour, Misha spoke, "You see, Impervious repels water. If you wish to keep an object dry, or yourself, for that matter, you need only cast this spell. I have heard it is quite useful in Quidditch matches with rather unfavorable weather conditions; also useful for keeping glasses dry or if you have forgotten an umbrella."

Leading his students back to the classroom, Misha's short hair was still sopping as the students gathered their things. "I wish you all the best on your OWLs. I cannot emphasize enough, study, study, study, practice, practice, practice. Have a lovely break, I hope to see you again next year as sixth year"

Attendance post is enough.

The blonde made her way to the class, knowing this was the last lesson of this year for Charms. And the first time she had her lessons from Misha. She took her seat in the front and listened as Misha spoke. Doing fine in her owls was not good enough, she was gonna do excellent perhaps better than excellent. June wasn't that excited to go outside in the rain, who would like that? But the spell Misha showed them made it better, and June just had to be quick with learning the spell, which wasn't too hard. June took her wand and tried herself, it was hard to chose what she didn't want to let get wet. But she believed in herself and decided to to use her scarf this time which was the less worth for her now. As she hold her scarf outside in the rain she noticed her hand getting an bit wet, but her scarf didn't. She hated that her hair was getting wet, but she quickly went inside after Misha finished speaking. She already studied hard and smiled as she quickly runned inside.

Fraser walked into the charms classroom and took his usual spot in the room. He glanced up at the professor as the man got started and he was curious about it. He nodded along with what was said, making sure that he didn’t miss anything from what the professor was saying, making sure that he then cast the spell properly. He cast it on his bag and his robes, and then headed out of the room and down to where the class was heading. He stepped out into the rain and the bag was wet but his robes were fine. He had managed it on the latter casting. Which he knew was a likely thing to happen. With that he headed back in to dry off the stuff which had gotten wet in his bag.

Hinata was surprised that they didn't have a quiz today but she wasn't really going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Instead, she listened as the professor introduced the lesson for the day. The spell was fascinating and most definitely useful. Perhaps after this, should Jonah or Sayuri ever need it for Quidditch, she can cast the spell for both of them - mostly because she doubted Mikael would for Sayuri. Once the professor had finished with the instructions and demonstration, Hinata tried to think of an item she didn't mind getting wet. That counted out most of the things in her bag. Her robe would have been too large and while she wouldn't mind it getting wet, she'd rather do it on something smaller for the first try. Finally, she'd decided to take off her Hufflepuff tie, placing it on the desk. With a deep breath, she imitated the wand movement they were shown earlier and firmly said, "Impervious." There was a slight glow that enveloped the fabric, disappearing quickly. She wished she could test it right here but then the professor had brought them outside. Or well, Hina had not made a move to go out into the rain except to stretch her hand out with the tie. She could feel the rain pelting down on her hand and she smiled as the tie remained dry. With the lesson done, Hinata gathered her things and walked out of the classroom to get some last-minute studying done before exams actually did roll around.

The encouragement they received from Professor Haden in their final lesson of the semester was welcome, Bailey was quite at ease with the thought of sitting her O.W.Ls but that didn’t mean she didn’t appreciate a kind or supportive word here or there from the people who had been teaching her all semester. Professor Haden informed them that for their final lesson they would be learning a different kind of charm, one more useful rather than destructive. The impervious charm. Once the professor explained the use for the charm Bailey grinned to herself, it was a great idea and would prove very useful during the rainy season. Bailey followed the instruction, listened to the incantation and then cast it on her own jacket.

Bailey stepped outside into the rain and was pleased to see that she wasn’t getting wet thanks to her enchanted jacket. That was incredibly useful and she knew that she would have to use it during Quidditch practice, never again would she have to feel drenched to the bone after practicing in the rain. After another reminder from Professor Haden to study, Bailey made her way back inside the castle and headed to the library to do just that.
