Fifth Years: Lesson Five

Angel had been waiting by the lake, peering over his sunglasses at his pocket watch. He’d sent word for the class to meet him out here today rather than the greenhouses for something a bit more exciting than the usual lecture or repotting and was eager for the class to finally arrive.

Smiling when the class began arriving, Angel snapped his watch closed and resettling the sunglasses once it looked like that’d all finally gathered. The weather was starting to turn colder, already overcast today, and he figured it was better to try this lesson now rather than later when the cold water was more of a punishment than a treat.

Hey everyone, welcome to the great outdoors,” Angel said grandly. ”I’ve got something a little more adventurous for you lot today,” he said, giving a small metal tin near his feet a slight kick. “But first, get changed, hope you all brought a towel.” Grinning, he motioned to a selection of wetsuits and privacy screens he’d managed to scrounge up from previous lessons involving lake work, flapping his hand to get the class moving. He could tell some of them were understandably curious about the change of scenery and was quite enjoying the drama of it all for now.

Right, now that we’re all suited up, let’s look at today’s plant,” he said, flicking open the metal tin to reveal a selection of rubbery, balled up plants inside, rather reminiscent of rats’ tails. “Everyone take a bit. It's not pretty but it’s perfectly safe fine, just don’t do anything with it yet, please,” he said, passing the tin around the class and giving a few of the more impatient looking students a weighted look as they took their piece.

What you have there is Gillyweed. A Mediterranean plant that is great if you’re a fan of swimming, maybe in the Mediterranean, perhaps. Anyway, eating this plant results in the subject growing gills and webbed fingers and toes. It’s rather a hot topic for debate on the duration effects in fresh versus salt water, but in fresh water like the lake here, it should last for about an hour. Kinda gross, but excellent for breathing underwater.

I figured what better way to get a little break from all this OWL stuff than a little dip in the lake. Feel free to test out your gillyweed, or just take a dip. But I will judge you if you don’t at least have a little nibble. Have a sense of adventure and all that,” Angel said, nodding encouragingly to a few nearby students as they sniffed at their gillyweed. “But seriously, that’s it, go, swim, have fun. If you get into serious trouble, send some sparks up or something, we’ll come fish you out. I’ve been told there are some critters in the lake so play nice,” he said, wrapping up the lesson and settling himself into a deck chair he’d brought along to ‘supervise’ from, pulling out a book. They were big kids, they could look after themselves for an hour.

RP the lesson, feel free to have some fun in the water. If you’re planning anything a bit more dramatic, please PM me beforehand.

Professor Castillo had left word for the fifth years to meet him by the lake and when Bailey arrived with her classmates the professor informed them that they would be doing something he considered fun and that it would include wetsuits, which Bailey didn’t like the sound of. She changed into a wetsuit then turned her attention back to the professor who told them what they would be doing in the lake.

They were learning about Gillyweed, which Bailey had taken a bit of and held in her hand, it felt rubbery and slimy in her palm and she was horrified when she learned she would have to eat it in order to gain the ability to breathe under water. That would be the lesson, to swim underwater, Professor Castillo seemed quite pleased with himself as if it was a deserved break from a normal lesson. Bailey would have preferred a study session. Once the professor was finished, Bailey popped the Gillyweed into her mouth and began to chew. Once she started to feel it working she dived into the lake and began to swim around under water. It was very disorientating at first but she quickly adjusted and spent almost an hour swimming around and exploring under the lake. When time began to run out she returned to the surface, dried off and made the journey back to the castle.

The blonde made her way to the lake since the professor had told them to come there. June wondered what today would bring, she would not swim at least in that dirty lake. When she noticed Professor Castillo she waved and made his way close to him, and waited for him to explain what this lesson would bring. As the professor said they would bring a towel June had, but she didn't want to swim. She wasn't that happy seeing that wetsuit, going into the water. But she needed too. So she put on a pokerface and did as she was told too. June made an disgusted face as she noticed what came out of the metal tin. She knew what it was, since she had studied. It sounded disgusting eating that and what than would happen to your body. Even Castillo couldn't make this better, this was an hell. She hated this. And pictured an shower already in her mind. June watched around to her classmates to see how stupid they were and what they would do with this. She noticed Bailey doing it in her mouth and she felt disgusted by looking at it. But she made some quick notes as Bailey was her victim now of observation. But as Castillo took an book the blonde just quickly went in the water and than came out of it. And figured she would observe her classmates and write of what the gillyweed did to them, she didn't had to try it out herself. As the lesson was over the blonde left.
