Matthew hadn't spent much time in New Zealand during the year, but he was now looking at a long stretch in his home country, and it would begin with Christmas. Sadly he would not be having the peaceful Christmas he had been looking forward to. Naturally he would be spending the holidays with his mother, but his mother had gone and invited the children of her closest friends to spend their Christmas holidays from Hogwarts with her, which meant he would have to endure Christmas with them. At least they would be easier to handle than the dragons he had just left behind.

When he finally turned up at his mothers house, it was a couple of days into the holidays so he knew the kids would be in the house. Matthew placed his hand on the door handle to try it out, it was unlocked so he walked into the house. Dropping his bag on the floor by the door he looked around the hallway, "Anybody home?" He called into the house. Usually he would just call his mother, but he knew she wasn't alone in the house so she may not be the one to answer.

Christmas break was finally here and Amy couldn't wait to spend time in New Zealand for a change. She nudged Dan to hurry up with his bags for the next couple of weeks. Come on they didn't need a whole month's worth of clothes. "Pleaseeeee hurry up, we're late. She's going to be here soon!" Amy waited for ten minutes and she was about to get him herself when he appeared. Finally. She's been waiting outside his common room for ages. The entrance was open, as he'd requested to leave it open. She stood up from her uncomfortable seat on her own bag and motioned for him to follow her out of the school, a permission slip in hand in case she needed one. Amy was quick when it came to packing. As soon as she and her brother were properly out, her mother's friend who'd host the two was waiting for them. Amy suddenly grew nervous. She sincerely hoped she was lovely. "Hi," she smiled at her and when she received a warm smile in return the hufflepuff relaxed. It wasn't long before they arrived at the house so the fifteen year old, after grabbing her bag and following the woman and her twin into the house, breathed a sigh of relief. They could officially relax now. Well, almost.

There was still one other person they had to meet but Amy was always fine with that. New friends were never a bad idea. After taking a look around the house, she found her brother already settled into the room. It wasn't a big house but it was beautiful. It was only a few days later when she was all settled in her bedroom that she heard a male voice calling from downstairs. Confused, she glanced at Dan before remembering. Oh right. He was here. The woman's son, who used to go to Hogwarts, or something. The twins always went to places together and especially when they had to introduce themselves. When they got downstairs, Amy spotted the person and she smiled. "
Hello," she said in her usual happy voice. "I'm Amy, nice to meet you."

The past few days at the Cosgrove's had been relaxing and mundane to say the least. Dan was used to doing lots of things at once back at home because their parents often worked; it was quite nice to be honest, a change in their routine. It was Christmas and the slytherin's favourite time of year. Actually, New Years was because it was close to the 25th. Nevertheless, he was enjoying himself and the lovely woman was so unlike his own mother he guiltily wished his mum was like her. Dan was in the bedroom with his sister, wondering what to do next when at the same time that Amy sent him a look he heard a voice calling from the floor below. Getting up and sighing, he began his descent down the stairs behind his twin. He was growing more and more curious with each step, he had to admit. It would be amazing to have an older friend. After his sister introduced herself it was his turn, so putting a small yet friendly smile on his features, he said "I'm Dan." He gestured to his sister. "We're twins." He had no idea why he just said that, but he did. It was probably a habit of which he'll never grow old.</COLOR></FONT>

Matthew could hear movement from upstairs that was suddenly making its way down. It wasn't his mother, he could tell by the speed of the movement. First, a young girl came into the room followed by her brother. The girl seemed the more cheerful, though that wasn't to say her brother was miserable as both seemed to be friendly. After they both said hello, and the boy added that they were twins. "Hi I'm Matthew, have you guys been here long? You look like you're still settling in," Matthew said as he walked further into the room dragging his suitcase behind him. "Is my mother home?" He asked the girl who seemed like the more agreeable of the two at the moment.
