Kylie was in an absolute state of shock as she looked at her crying son, he had never hurt himself like this before and now she was alone with him and her sweet Elena. For a brief moment she did not know what to do or where to go, as if all the thoughts in her head had left in a panic. Luckily, it was only a brief moment before she carefully scooped her son up. Although he was wailing, clearly in pain she peppered him with kisses to make him feel calmer in her arms even though she knew it wouldn’t work in calming him down, she still tried. While she tried to figure out whether it was the shock of the fall or actual pain that was making her son cry like he was, Kylie tried to pack up her daughter from the park while other parents and children looked onto her struggling. Apparating with two children was not the easiest so she usually tried other methods of travel, especially because her daughter would almost certainly cry from her ears popping but after ascertaining that Dominic likely broke a bone in his arm she had to risk it. Kylie adjusted him in her arms so she was carrying him on her hip and did the same with her daughter on the opposite side and instructed them to close their eyes so they wouldn’t also get dizzy and get sick. That was the last thing Kylie needed at the moment.

Luckily, the three Ortiz’s reached the doors of St Mungo’s without any extra injuries even if there were more tears. Kylie rushed her babies into the hospital, still carrying them and getting physically tired but she needed to get Dominic seen to so she rushed as much as she was able knowing if Elena was walking beside it would take that much longer in a moment of stress. The worst of this was that Dominic kept crying for his father when he would not show up because Kylie knew she could not tell the man about this without it being an issue and allow him to question whether their custody arrangement was appropriate. No, Kylie had decided to only tell him if it was bad and she was just hoping it would be a simple fix for whoever would see them.

Kylie set her children in seats while trying to get Dominic registered to see a Healer. The woman did wish that she had that ability in this moment but was grateful anyway to be at the hospital anyway. After filling out the paperwork, she sat down and put Dominic in her lap and gently rocked him while he cried and with a free hand she played with Elena’s dark hair and spoke to them both in Spanish, trying to reassure them that they would be seen soon and that the pain would be over quickly although she regretted it happening at all.

Change was inevitable; the only constant in the universe, and Pia had learned this years ago. Change in her career, her relationships, her family, her life. At first she had feared what change meant, always plagued by worry of the uncertainty that change brought whenever she finally felt comfortable in who she was, and comfortable in the goals she was working towards. But eventually, and slowly but surely, she had grown to realise that to fear change was to hold herself back, and despite the uncertainty and fear of not knowing; of wanting order and safe expectations for her future, it was better off for herself and everyone else around her if she embraced it instead. If she looked into the future with optimism rather than fear that her future wouldn't play out how she wished it would. She had found that over time, everything and everyone in her life would be exactly where they were supposed to be, and everything would play out exactly how it was supposed to, whether she feared it happening or not.

This was why Pia wasn't so much surprised, as she was thankful to see the name Kylie Ortiz appear on some of her paperwork that day. The once close friends had lost touch over the years; their lives verging on separate paths and their friendship from school fading away as they focused on other things, on their adult lives and growing up rather than spending time with each other. In spite of this Pia wasn't any less fond of Kylie for it, nor would she be anything other than happy to see how her old friend was doing, even if the circumstances of Kylie's visit to St Mungo's that day weren't exactly ideal. From the looks of the description, her son had fallen and possibly had a broken arm. It wouldn't be a comfortable situation, but one Pia felt confident she could deal with. Broken bones were simple, and even if she didn't feel she was skilled enough to outright mend the brake with a spell depending on the complexity of the break, she knew she could easily cast a charm to bandage and splinter it, allowing the break to heal on its own. Children were resilient, and much stronger than they likely thought they were, and Pia was nothing other than optimistic Kylie's son would heal quickly and be as good as new in a matter of weeks.

With this confidence in mind, Pia left her newly cleaned examination room to approach the waiting area, adjusting her glasses as her clipboard and quill hovered next to her, ready to take down notes. It didn't take her long to spot Kylie and two children, the one with the broken arm in question on Kylie's lap. Pia soon approached them, smiling warmly as she greeted them. "Hey, this must be Dominic?" She asked, not greeting Kylie with her full name as she would her normal patients. It may have been optimistic of her but she had a hope she and Kylie, after dealing with Dominic's broken arm of course, could continue things where they left off. "Follow me, we'll take a look at your arm okay?" She said softly, soon turning and allowing her clip board to follow her as she led the trio to her examination room. The room was decorated colorfully, and near the entrance was her desk, two chairs and on the far wall a comfortable bed in case the patient needed to lie down. She waved to the chairs as well as the bed, letting Kylie and the two children situate themselves. "Get comfortable, and we can start with you telling me exactly what happened." Pia asked, wanting to get a clearer picture of the situation from Kylie or Dominic before she tried to help.

Kylie was so distracted by her crying son in her arms that when a healer approached her she did not even recognize that it was her former roommate and estranged best friend. Instead she continued to try to soothe Dominic as she stood and said, "Come quickly Elena," to her daughter who did as she was told so they could follow the Healer. After being lead to a patient room, she put her son on the examination bed and instructed her daughter to sit down in the chairs that were offered to them. While Kylie would certainly not wish to be in the way, she knew her baby boy well enough to know he would not be happy if she were not close while he was this upset so she pet his brown curly hair lovingly. He had not stopped crying since the fall, she suspected more from the shock than the pain although it did look painful but being five and having such a frightening incident would make anyone cry like her son was so while she would normally let him answer she knew he was in no place to get an answer out so instead she said, "He fell at the park over a toy."

Kylie watched as her son cried and hid his face into her shirt. It was at this point that he stumbled out between cries,
"Mommy... it hurts!" As Kylie did not really even look at the Healer, she could only assume that they did not understand his Spanish so would translate if he needed it because Spanish was the language the family of three used first because she had no interest in raising children that did not know the language of their people. It was important to her that they did so they rarely spoke in English together. It had become an instinct for her little ones which she was happy with. Still the woman knew that he spoke enough English to get through an interaction with a Healer under normal circumstances so she kissed the top of his head encouragingly before asking him, "Can you tell the healer where it hurts?" She could only assume this would make the woman's job easier so she was trying to console as much as possible, she didn't want him to panic while the healer was fixing his arm especially because the first signs of his magical skills were coming up when he was afraid and she knew that it would make life all the more difficult, she was indeed grateful that her daughter was sitting quietly and observing the interaction without trying to make the moment about herself. Although she had tried, Kylie wasn't terribly surprised when he had shook his head into her shirt and she offered the healer an apologetic glance but still didn't realize that it was Pia in front of her.

Listening to Kylie's explanation of what happened, Pia nodded her head, attempting to imagine the event playing out as she almost instinctively reached for one of the jars on her desk filled with muggle lollypops. It was no wonder why Dominic was so upset, with both the shock of the situation as well as the pain in his arm adding to his distress. For situations such as the one she found herself in, Pia found that either lollypops or licorice wands were an ideal distraction depending on the issue, the sweetness of the candy being both a reward for the child's bravery and a distraction to keep their mind away from their discomfort so Pia had an opportunity to see what was wrong and truly help them. With this in mind she decided lollypops would be the more suitable choice and she offered the jar to the youngest child first, allowing the girl to choose a lollypop of her own before Pia stepped over to the examination bed where Kylie's son was. At the same time, Pia's clipboard followed her and her quill began to scribble down notes on her stationery. She noted down in her mind that Dominic seemed understandably distressed, and hoped that offering him a lollypop would indeed assist in calming him down.

"It must have been really scary, to fall over like that."
Pia said softly, switching her language to spanish in the hope it would allow Dominic to feel more comfortable talking to her. "I think you have been very brave today, and you deserve a lollypop." She explained, offering the jar to Dominic to choose whichever flavor he wanted in the hope he would work with her, and show her arm so she could assess the break. "If I give you a lollypop, can I take a look at your arm?" She asked gently, shuffling the jar slightly in offering hoping that Dominic felt comfortable enough around her to accept.

Kylie watched as her daughter accepted a liquorice wand and say a quick thank you before munching away, she was grateful that her two year old wasn't acting out in any way when it probably would have been very easy for her to have done so with the chaos around them at the moment. It wasn't always that she knew that she was doing a good job as a parent but sometimes her children made her know she wasn't doing anything too wrong. It was not easy being a parent and after having a co-parent for the last few years to now be doing it on her own made it all the more difficult for Kylie. She was relieved that Dominic's father was not in the picture or else this would be a shared conversation with him. She could imagine having to do that with Elena's father would be exceedingly difficult. She pet her son's curly brown mop of hair again and didn't look up at the Healer until she spoke Spanish. She had not expected this, at all. She had expected seeing a very familiar face even less. Pia Morales had been one of Kylie's best friends during her time in New Zealand and due to a busy life being lived they had lost contact with one another so to see her in a moment when she was less than a shining example of her parenting was a little nerve-wracking but Kylie had been seen in less ideal lights by the Chilean witch so she was not as embarrassed as she could have been.

"It was," said her son, finding his words to respond to the Healer. Kylie watched as he offered a tear stained half-smile at the offer of a lollypop and she gave him some space to be examined and sat next to her daughter but making it clear with a reassuring look to Dominic that if he needed her to hold his hand she would be right there for him. "Ok, but it hurts a lot," said her son as he sniffled and took a green lollypop. Normally she would've prompted him to say thank you but his manners would be forgiven at this minute by her. Kylie didn't know much about healing magic so she was hopeful that they would leave St Mungo's with a repaired arm and a little more sugar in her kid's system but not much else to remember the event. Still she waited patiently for Pia to speak and inform them of next steps. Meanwhile her son had used his teeth to open the wrapper of the lollypop and was now enjoying it despite the pain she knew he was in.

Pia nodded to Dominic's words as he accepted a lollypop. She was of course still surprised to see Kylie after so many years and so unexpectedly given the circumstances though she tried to push this into the back of her mind to focus on helping Dominic. Pia could only imagine how much his arm would hurt and how scared he must have felt, so she focused first on listening, nodding her head to show as such as she returned the jar of lollypops to her desk. A few moments later she turned back to Dominic, reaching to gently inspect his arm, trying not to squeeze too tightly at first so he wouldn't experience more pain or feel further more distressed by the interaction. Looking at the arm, although there appeared to be some swelling there luckily wasn't any exposed bone, and this would make the break a bit easier to mend. "I am going to squeeze your arm a little Dominic, and you need to tell me where it hurts more." Pia said softly, continuing to keep to Spanish as she gently applied pressure to different spots along Dominic's arm. She noted in her mind and with her hovering quill and clipboard where Dominic indicated his arm hurt more, and noted the areas where his arm seemed to be swelling.

After a few minutes of assessing the break and piecing together her conclusions on how to heal Dominic, Pia stepped back slightly and reached to pick up the pillow from her exam bed, gently moving it underneath Dominic's arm to support it before she turned to Kylie. "It doesn't appear to be too bad of a break, so I think if we splinter and bandage it, it should heal in a few weeks." She explained, looking back to Dominic and smiling gently hoping this would reassure him. For cases where the break wasn't bad and given the complexity and risk of mending a broken bone with a spell, she felt the safest route to Dominic's recovery would be a splinter. Of course it was never ideal for anyone let alone a small child to deal with a splintered and bandaged arm, it would only be temporary and Pia hoped Dominic after being fully healed would forget all about the ordeal of it. "Alright. Let's get you all bandaged up then." Pia uttered, reaching for her wand in the pocket of her healer robes and pointing it towards Dominic's affected arm. She then cast the bandaging charm which caused a splinter and bandages to appear, the bandages quickly wrapping themselves around the boy's arm and the splinter. After a few moments the spell was complete and Pia expected some of the pain would be gone as well as a side effect of the charm. Pia then reached to a nearby set of drawers with medical supplies, finding a cotton sling and gently wrapping it around Dominic's arm, knotting it at his shoulder so his arm could be supported while it healed. "There. Now after a little while you'll be as good as new." She said confidently as she looked between Dominic and Kylie.

Kylie watched on as Pia took care of her son, hoping that this would be a sprain but she knew in her heart he had broken his arm. This was confirmed not too long after and she watched on as her son's arm was put into a cast and sling. As Kylie knew very little about these things other than a few cuts and some sprains she had sustained during her years in Duelling competitions she was curious, naturally, why the bone wouldn't be fixed with a waive of Pia's wand but perhaps it was because he was so young there was more risk. She truly trusted Pia with her son's safety so she didn't question it audibly despite being curious. Instead she asked, "Do we come back here to follow up or elsewhere?" Kylie had been lucky to never break a bone so she could not be sure and hoped it would all be clear moving forward so she could take her children to their home and breath a sigh of relief that nothing worse had happened during this fall although it could very well have. While Kylie had her son's care in the forefront of her mind, it was hard to focus on anything unrelated but once she knew a care plan for him, she would hope to take some of Pia's time so they could catch up or at least schedule some time to do so. She had missed her friend and although in the last few years she hadn't thought of her much as she had so much else going on, when Pia had crossed Kylie's mind she had thought of her fondly and hoped the best for her silently. Now seeing her, she hoped that appearances could be believed and that Pia was doing as well as she seemed to be.

Pia for a moment looked between Dominic and Kylie, and soon stepped back towards her desk to retrieve her trusted jar of lollipops. Thinking she may as well offer each child another to keep them calm as they moved on their way, she offered a lollypop to Kylie's daughter again and then to Dominic. "This is another one for the road, okay?" She said softly, hoping that after they left and returned home the candy would continue to keep their minds off of the ordeal of their visit to St Mungo's. Being a new mother herself, Pia couldn't imagine such an injury happening to her own boy even if he was still far too young to even walk, but thought if it did happen to her own son she would want to do all she could to keep him calm and make his day happier in spite of what had happened.

As Pia once again returned the Jar of lollipops to her desk she began to answer Kylie's question. "Assuming no other accidents happen and the cast isn't damaged, you would only need to visit after a few weeks to get the cast removed, and we can assess whether the break is fully healed." She explained. "Though, Dominic is young and I'm confident he will heal and be as good as new the next time we see him. I doubt we will need more follow up after removing the cast." She added to reassure Kylie that after Dominic healed, everything would be alright. Pia knew it wouldn't be convenient for the young boy to live with a cast for a little while, but it was the best and safest chance he had of healing, and since he was so young she hadn't wanted to risk healing the break with a complicated spell. Placing her hands on her hips confidently, Pia smiled to her estranged best friend. "That should be all we need to do today, did you have any other questions?" She asked, wanting to do all she could to answer Kylie's questions in that moment, and reassure her everything would be fine, and from there the healing process would be simple.

Kylie was grateful that the Healer was Pia, if Dominic had to be injured she knew that although the pair had not spoken in many years the woman would completely know how Kylie would prioritize everything for the health and wellbeing of her two children regardless of their relationship. A lesser friend might have taken the opportunity to catch up and not pay full attention to her son. Pia was always wonderful in that regard, being able to focus on the important things and not get lost in the weeds. As things started to calm down and she knew that Dominic was going to be alright and that he wasn't as afraid and could not take on her emotions, Kylie started to feel her hands shake from the anxiety of the last few moments, still she hid it with a smile as all mother's would. She wanted both her babies to know that they had things under control which although it felt like they didn't, Kylie knew that they did. It was just times like these she wished she wasn't alone as a parent, even if it was by her own choice. "No, I don't think so," Kylie answered although she felt that she may have questions later upon returning home but anything else could be handled in follow-up appointments in a few weeks.

"Mijo, say thank you," she told Dominic who gave a youthful toothy smile and said, "Thank you," over his sucker. Kylie wasn't confident that her son knew he was thanking Pia for fix his arm instead of the candy but either way, manners were manners and he was still learning the concept of being grateful and polite as these were skills he still needed practice in.

Now it was time for Kylie to say one of her own, "Thank you Pia, I can't tell you how glad I am to see you and that you took care of my baby." Kylie could have easily thrown her arms around her estranged best friend and picked up as if a day had never passed but the two children who clung onto the woman were signs of the exact opposite, in the best way, of course. Her life was busy and happy for the most part and she hoped the same for Pia.
