Professor Styx leads the two contestants to the stage, appointing them into the north or south part of the stage. He reveals the rules as well as the point system. He walks off the stage and orders the duel to begin, as he keeps a watchful eye.
OOCOut of Character:
All right, make sure that you use the spell list for guidance. No board rule breaking is acceptable. Have fun! I have a copy of the code that you should use with every post. Remember, when you are knocked out, unable to shoot anymore spells, you lost. And if you run out of points, you lose.
Oh, and the duel begins now. Also, if someone doesn't post after 12 hours, then they are disqualified.

Lucien Snow was going to enjoy this. Since signing up for the Student Defence Association, he wanted to duel. And here he was. He walked onto the platform and chose the north side, and looked at his opponent. A girl, in his year. He smirked slightly, and he raised his wand, in his dueling stance. Stepping forward, he let out roar as he intoned, "Tarantallegra!" The spell was shot, and headed straight in her direction.

A rush of excitement washed through Esme's chest as she approached the dueling platform, shoes clicking against it's hard surface as she took her position on the southern end. There was a thrill to finally dueling, having signed up for the Student Defence Association and practically not hearing anything for over a year. Though she couldn't complain, trying to duel with such little experience with spells the prior year would have ended tragically.
As Professor Styx spoke, Esme quickly pulled her hair up into a high ponytail, an elastic band snapping it into place to keep her hair from her eyes. She had no idea how much she'd have to move around, stray hair could cost her the match. Though her opponent, she thought as a light smile played upon her lips, didn't look like too much of a problem for her. This won't take too long.

Once Styx vacated the stage, Esme's classmate wasted no time diving into their match. At the sound of his voice, the young witch hopped to the side, the spell soaring off to her left while she whipped her own wand up through the air in front of her, taking quick aim for Snow's legs. <COLOR color="seagreen">"Locomotor Mortis!" she incanted, the spell erupting from her wand tip and sailing smoothly in her opponents direction.

The witch dodged his spell. That was clever, and she sure wasn't stupid. She fired another spell, and he hollered, "Protego!" The spell bounced right off the shield. He took aim and he intoned with force, "Stupefy!" He wanted to win, and he wanted to be the best in his year.

Esme thought the boy looked exactly how she felt, determined to come out of the match as the winner. It was a shame she had to go against a fellow Slytherin, house point wise it wouldn't matter who was victorious, which only made her strive to prove she was better than her house mates. Snow shot back, a blast of red light emitting from his wand. Esme whipped her wand up, a slight whoosh sounding as it cut through the air. "Protego!" she called, the shield rippling through the air in front of her as the stunning bolt drew close, making contact with the transparent barrier and fizzling off into multiple red sparks at her feet. "I'm sure you're impressing your friends, fighting a girl." Esme shouted across the platform, immediately flicking her wand at the boy's hand and ending her sentence with "Expelliarmus!"
She'd hoped to catch him off-guard with her spell following the jibe, and hoped the tactic would favour her.

Lucien heard the girl taunt him and he rolled his eyes. He could not believe what he was hearing, this girl wanted him to feel bad for fighting a girl! Before he could really talk back, he shielded himself once more since it would have been hard to dodge that spell. "Please, I have two sisters I fight with all the time that go here, Petrificus Totalus!" He hoped that the hidden spell he sent out would cause her to freeze up.

Esme was just quick enough to dance away as Lucien responded with her same tactic. "Really? Did you really just try copy me. Get some originality." Esme huffed, twirling her wand down toward her opponents feet and incanting off a quick bluebell flames spell. Instantly, sapphire flames bloomed from her wand tip and jetted across the floor, ready to blossom upon contact. She hoped a little fire might be enough distraction for her next move.

Lucien looked down, seeing the bluebell flames, before he waved his wand and intoned, "Finite!" The flames dispelled right before his feet and general area. "You know what they say, imitation is the greatest form of flattery." Lucien smirked a bit at her, as if he were flirting, but he was really not. He did not really like girls right now, but he will later. There was one spell he had been working on, which he still had some issues with. He sent out the Knee-reversing hex and to his surprise, the spell went out just as it should have, spiraling toward the girl.

Esme was rather surprised by the compliment, and couldn't help but let out a small giggle. "In that case, I'm flattered." she laughed, only to have it cut short by a hex slamming into her before she could move, it's magic traveling down to her knees and forcing the caps to reverse, bones sliding under the skin and repositioning themselves at the back of her legs. She wobbled uncertainly, having to force her legs to stiffen so she'd avoid falling over. If she took a single step, it could end poorly for her. "Lucky shot." she said with a grimace, focusing on ignoring the peculiar feeling of having backward-knees as she fired off another spell. "Rictusempra!"
Action(s) Taken: Hit by spell, cast spell.

Lucien was glad that the hex hit her, and with that, chose not to respond. She sent out another spell which he waved his wand again and intoned, "Protego!" The spell bounced away, which he was glad since he did not want to start laughing like a monkey or a mudblood. "Expelliarmus!" the second year finally chose a spell to send toward her.
