Sighing wearily, Wolfgang made his way home, coming upon a clearing in the Argonne Forest of France. It was a large manor, his family wealthy and having lived here once. However, they had either died or moved away, himself and his animals the only ones left.

His dogs, Fritz and Lars, a collie and a Saint Bernard, greeted him with booming barks as he reached the door. The hippogriff he was taking care of, a dapple grey female named Hester, swooped down near him, her wings creating an air current and lifting up his hair. She had come from an abusive owner, and he was taking care of her at the moment.

Wolfgang had once married, but his wife had died of dragon pox long ago. Instead of trying to start another family, he lived with his animals, companions at his side. Care of Magical Creatures was his forte.

He patted Hester on the head, stroking her sleek feathers, and made his way inside. Walter, his owl, was absent from his post. Eva, the cat was nowhere to be found at the moment.

Making himself a cup of tea, he lounged in the massive armchair before his fire. The faces of his family were all but a blur in his memory, except that of his favorite nephew, who was still living. He would have to invite him over sometime; his nephew had a daughter, at least he knew, and had taken his own path in life. But it would still be nice to see him.

He had no letters to read or extra work to do, so he was content to sit back and relax, enjoying the time he had off.
