Hinata had probably interacted with more professors this year than the rest of her Hogwarts life thus far. But surely, she couldn't be blamed. It was OWLs year and it was crucial to do well this year to figure out what she could do with her life, if she'd be able to make something of herself at all. Honestly, if her younger siblings had gone on to Mahoutokuro, she probably wouldn't be doing as well in her academics as she currently was. Having the triplets and Sayuri around made her want to be a better role model for them, a better big sister. She wasn't a very good one, but she at least didn't want them to see her as a failure. She already saw that in herself enough, thank you very much. Now that she was doing good in her classes though, she'd realized that Defense Against the Dark Arts was something that interested her, despite the very off-putting class they've had in the previous semester where her friend had gotten put under the Imperius by the professor. Professor Cade, or James-san, made the class intriguing enough that she'd wondered if she had options in pursuing a career that involved DADA. She didn't want to fly for Tengu, she hadn't even experienced playing a game after not having the courage to try out for the Hufflepuff Quidditch Team. She'd initially thought she'd just work with the Nightrays, but now it was seeming less and less appealing with the prospect of something she found intriguing, and hopefully excelled at. Which was why she'd found herself just outside of James-san's office, gathering the courage to knock to ask if she had any chance at having career prospects with Defense. It would take her just a little under ten minutes more of standing and pacing right outside the office to finally knock.

Teaching the upper years was a challenge because on top of being a teacher it was also important that James could act as a career advisor when needed, and in the couple of years he had been in his role as defence against the dark arts he had spoken to a number of students about their career aspirations, he had dashed some hopes by being brutally honest to some auror hopefuls, not everyone had what it took and it was important they learned that at a time when they could still make different choices regarding their education.

James thought he could hear shuffling outside his office door, which wasn’t unusual but it was a few minutes before the shuffling turned into a knock, he raised his wand and the door swung open to reveal a Hufflepuff girl that had been in his fifth year lessons. “Come in,”

Hinata couldn't quite help but fidget as she entered the professor's office. It still felt unusual to be in one, especially voluntarily. This is probably more important than her trips to the Ancient Runes professors' offices though. Honestly, she could have probably gone to Professor Carter to ask him about potential careers for her, but the interest she had in Defense had taken her by complete surprise. Perhaps, sometimes professors did make a difference. And, she figured that her Defense professor would have a more accurate feedback for her interest in pursuing a career in the field. "H-Hello Professor, I was h-hoping you'd have some time to... to talk about uh... c-careers?"
