It was an odd night. There was an odd air. It felt like nerves and fear, passion and happiness rolled into one. For even a time like this, caused all emotions in all people. However Elijah was blissfully unaware of the importance the night held for everything. His mind had completely shut off the calender. He didn't know what day of the week it was or if it was night or day. All in all, Elijah was just in his own world. This tended to happen when exams finished, and all the stress he'd once felt streamed away. It was like he was happy to just be able to switch his brain off and ignore he had anything serious to do. It wasn't coming into his mind how scared and worried he would become as he got closer to the OWLs. Fifth year, he'd already figured would be like hell on earth, for him and the others in his year. Just as it was most likely hell for the current fifth year. Elijah half wished for another year, another year before starting the OWL year. Elijah was however glad that he was close to the end. That he was almost finished with his schooling. As much as Elijah had enjoyed the new friends he'd made, it still didn't stop the fact that he'd be glad to leave at the end of his seventh year. He knew that his attendance had been sketchy up until that point, and he pretty much assumed, that, that small fact was the reason for his wanting to leave. That and he was sick of just playing music to himself, what he wanted to do was start playing to others. He wanted to stop just singing to his own reflection and sing to thousands and thousands of fans. Elijah had always been pretty happy with whatever was handed to him. He tried his hardest to take things in his stride. To not let the small silly things phase him. To not let the fact that his parents wished for a real career. Elijah had not until recently been under their control, and it hadn't really worked for him. He loved his music too much to want to consider anything else. It was just how the Hufflepuff had thought for his entire life, and real parents weren't going to change that. He just had to make them realise the fact he already knew. As did most of his friends. He had only told a few that he wanted to do music outisde of school, but then it was also something easily assumed. As someone who spent so very little time away from his guitar, going into anything other than music would be surprising. Odd, and completely unexpected. However, it had not come to the realisation of the hufflepuff that this night was a crucially important one. Well, important to most, but to Elijah it didn't hold that much importance. Not this year. He was so wrapped up in the chords he was playing, that he was unaware of the slow stream of girls and boys, dressed in their best suits, and the girls in the most amazing dresses. That was enough to make any boy want to do nothing else apart from whisk them away with a promise of marriage and a happy life. Not that marriage was on the hufflepuff's mind. He pretty much doubted that any girl would like him. He was pretty oblvious to most things, and he didn't think it was possible in any case. He just didn't think he was boyfriend material. Way too involved in his music.

It was as he finished playing chords, that part of a conversation drifted into his radar. I'm so excited. Tonight is going to be amazing He looked round to see what the girl could be referring to, and it was as his eyes spotted the floor length dress that he realised. He swore loudly, and then headed up to his dorm room. He was quick to move, but his dorm room, wasn't exactly the tidiest of places, he got to the side of his bed before decking it. Slipping on a bit of paper that sent him to the floor. Elijah groaned loudly. He didn't have time to get properly ready. He just put on his darkest jeans and a lose white shirt. He did a small tie, with a spare black tie he'd used the year before. he put on his black converses and then headed down to the great hall. It didn't really make him feel him that he'd put so little effort into how he was dressed. It wasn't llike he was actually attending with anyone. It was just him alone. And that he was okay with, he went mainly for the food. Elijah headed down to the great hall, and was surprised to see so many people attending, it wasn't there were usually very few just that usually there were a lot less couples. He headed in and then spotted someone he would've never expected to be at the Yule ball. "Heyy" Elijah called to her while walking over. They'd only met once before, briefly, but on a night like this it hardly mattered, it was all about how a bit of fun with some good friends.

There was a magical sensation floating through the air tonight in Hogwarts. The staff at the school had set to work earlier in the day creating the enchantment that revolved around the Yule Ball. It was quite beautiful indeed and this year Kynleigh decided that she would go. Normally dances weren't really her thing, actually social gatherings in general weren't her thing, but everything just looked far too tempting for her to at least not give it a fair chance and check it out.

Pulling her rollers from her hair she let it fall in light curls around her shoulders. The tall blonde girl sat in front of her mirror and applied some makeup, which for her seemed to be a feat in itself because she rarely used the stuff. She quickly pulled on her dress that she'd found at a shop during her last Brightstone outing along with her tights and shoes. Kynleigh looked herself over and thought it strange that people actually put up such a fuss about events such as tonight. She really hadn't spent that much time on herself and she thought she looked decent enough whereas her roommates had spent half the day getting ready and had complained repeatedly about how they looked horrible. Shrugging it off she left her dorm and headed out of Gryffindor house to the Great Hall.

With several odd looks and a few hushed murmurs about how her outfit look strange and way too bright Kynleigh looked down at her ensemble. She wasn't sure what they were talking about...she thought her outfit was quite nice. It suited her perfectly. Finding the food table the Gryffindor helped herself to a nicely sized cream filled puffed pastry and a glass of pumpkin juice. Wiping the corner of her mouth she grinned as she surveyed the scene in front of her. There were people dancing everywhere and she couldn't help, but sway slightly with the music. At the end of the song she heard someone say hey to her and watched as a familiar face came over to her. It was Elijah, a boy she'd met several weeks prior when she'd been at the rosebush with Hucklebee. "Oh, hello there Elijah. Don't you look quite dapper," she said politely as she smoothed her hands down the front of her dress.

Elijah was pretty to happy to have run into someone he knew. Maybe it wasn't very well, but it hardly mattered. It wasn't like he'd be spending time with Logan at a yuleball, they were still starting out as friends, and he also had a girlfriend, which Elijah clearly didn't have. He didn't have anything that would be a date to the yuleball. He did have to say, that Kynleigh looked fantastic. She hadn't dressed like all the other girls, who'd seemingly all gone for fancy dresses, either floor length or surprisingly short. it wasn't really a bad thing the dresses like that, he had to admit there wasn't one girl that he didn't think looked beautiful. It was just amazing how girls could make themselves look so perfect, and Elijah was scruffy all the time, as were more or less all guys. It was all good, but it seemed on this night, the males of the school, had also managed to make themselves look a little fancier than usual. Elijah had just not put in the same amount of effort. He'd not really ever managed to figure out what they did. He was sure that all guys had a manual on how to dress for an event like this, but Elijah was a firm believer in the fact that fancy shirts just did not suit him. despite wearing a school shirt every day, on special occasions his shirt didn't give off the fancy smart look, more boat sail. It wasn't great and why Elijah liked his big thick jumpers and completely informal events. This Yule ball was not really a place for someone like Elijah Tine. he was too into being all cool and causal to suit anything at this ball. but, he had to admit, that Kynleigh, did look pretty amazing. He was close to saying beautiful. It was something that made him smile. he saw her as a friend that wasn't really close. As of yet, this night was full of wonders, he knew that it wouldn't completely define them, and it didn't mean they would leave as the same. "You look amazing. It looks amazing on you" Elijah said. He then reached down and took her hand took her staight to the dance floor. He had no idea where this sudden confidence was coming from.

"Life's too short to hesitate and have pointless conversation." Elijah said, letting go of her hand and beginning to dance in the same way that most others were. it was a faster beat, but it was still fairly good. "I do hope I didn't take you away from a date?" Elijah said to her smiling. Really hoping he hadn't, it wouldn't be, since he was not very ready to fight out. He was just looking for a good time. "Or friends for that matter"</B>

OOCOut of Character:
Sorry for the slight godmodness, and for lameness

I thought it was cuuuuuute

Kynleigh was glad to see that someone else had decided to dress more for what they were more comfortable in rather than going all out and dressing up in what could only be considered a monkey suit. It wasn't that the other males at the formal gathering didn't look dashing in their suits, but they all looked rather uncomfortable. When Elijah complimented her the blonde did something very out of character for her...she blushed. "Why thank you. That's very polite of you to say," she said with a grin. Elijah seemed very friendly and she was glad that she was having the honor of meeting up with him tonight even if it were completely coincidental.

The Gryffindor was very surprised at what her new found friend did next. Kynleigh usually wasn't one for dancing, in fact she didn't dance at all. She'd never really given much thought to dancing before now, but never one to be inhibited the tall blonde began to sway along with the music with the rest of her schoolmates. Shaking her head lightly she said, "No, no. No date and I don't really have many friends, but that's alright. I tend to keep to myself." It was true. The Gryffindor tended to keep to herself which really suited her just fine. Most people found her to be odd, but she wasn't one to conform to the version of herself that others wanted her to be. "I'm assuming you too are flying solo tonight?"

It was a great relief for him to hear that she was not with anyone. Sure, it wouldn't have caused him to run away straight away, but he would not have stuck around for very long if that had been the case. One dance and then that was him out. But, as it did seem that she was alone for the night, he couldn't help but feel glad. He didn't wish for her to be alone, and then it meant that he was not alone. It was really a win win situation for the hufflepuff. He liked being alone, but on this night, Elijah didn't have a huge desire to be alone. With all these other people with friends and dates, Elijah hardly wanted to be completely. It wasn't the way that he wanted to be. It was just the way that he had ended up on this night. He'd not been quick enough to ask anyone. Nor had there had been anyone that he wanted to ask. It wasn't like he'd walked around for a few days looking out for a girl around his age that would agree to go with him. The fact that Kynleigh hadn't walked away surprised him more than anything else in the world. The last time he'd attended the yuleball with someone it had been a super night. One of his best, and he wanted this one to be the same. Apart from the fact he wanted this person to stick around in his life. As much as he hardly knew her, it would be a lot easier for him to be around someone who was also around. He wasn't leaving anytime soon, and so having another friend then, it was a good thing. Most definitely the best thing. "We are one in the same." Elijah said, dancing along with the music. It was a fairly easy thing for him to do. Stay in time with the rhythm of the music and although, Elijah thought himself a good dancer, that was most definitely up for debate. "That I am." Elijah was okay with admitting that he was alone. There was really nothing wrong with it. It was just because he hadn't ever really found a girl that he liked enough to ask out. He didn't really spend much time outside of his dorm room to be able to. "I don't spend enough time outside to see many people. Less so enough girls to ask to an event like this." Elijah shrugged, as the song changed and he took a moment to figure out the song and then started dancing. "Much better to come alone and see where the night takes you" He added smiling at the girl in front of him. "It's good to run into someone you know." Elijah nodded. "How've you been?"

Sorry for the delay in posting :/

The blonde continued to move along with the music, though to most others around her it probably appeared that she were having some sort of fit. Kynleigh Davis wasn't one of those people who had been blessed with rhythm, but she'd long ago accepted that fact and on this night she just rolled with the punches and as per usual couldn't have given two hoots what anyone else thought about her. She was having fun with her new found friend and what else were these events for if not to let loose and have fun. "Seems we are quite a bit alike," the Gryffindor confirmed with a nod and a knowing smile. "I don't spend much time locked away in my dorm, in fact quite the opposite. I tend to love to be outdoors and wide open spaces. I'm not one for being cooped up for too long," she added as an afterthought, not really sure why she was offering up this useless bit of insight into her life.

Kynleigh smiled when Elijah said it was good to run into someone you know. She nodded fervently in agreement. "I think everyone, mostly the females, get too caught up on making sure they have someone to accompany them and then making sure that everything is absolutely picture perfect that they lose the whole fun aspect of coming to things like this," she said, pondering on what exactly made girls act so googly over something as silly as a date. When asked how she had been she simply said, "Living. And how have you been since I saw you last?"

Suddenly the song turned from the fun upbeat tune that the pair had been dancing along with to something slower. For the first time in the young girls life she felt awkward and unsure of herself, not really sure what to do in situations like this. She looked to Elijah then the other couples on the floor then back to her Hufflepuff friend. "We could give it a try, but I'm warning you I've never danced like that so if I happen to step on your toes then I'm going to apologize in advance," she said with a wide grin
