Double checking he looked smart enough, which was never really an issue, Ruki pulled on his jacket; leaving it completely open to show his black; lightly-patterned shirt. Choosing not to wear a tie this time, the sixth year also decided to leave a few top buttons open. With one final look around the dormitory, the young wizard set off towards the common-room; before heading on to the Great Hall. A slight spring was in his step. Having only been to one Yule Ball before, Ruki was looking forward to his second. During the time he had spent at Hogwarts, the seventeen year old had met many different people; most of whom where members of the opposite sex. A couple of years ago and the young boy would have had no interest in girls, but now; they where everywhere. It wasn't a bother to him that he noticed late in his young life, due to the times he had spent talking to, and dancing with, young woman ever since he was a child. Now, however. Well; a little more than a dance would be nice.

Stepping in to the decorated hall, the sixth year took a long look around. Candles floated around; glistening snow-flakes fell from the ceiling; and blue and white decorations lined the walls. It was certainly beautiful. Taking a moment to scan the occupants of the hall, Ruki noticed a few people he knew; and gave a small wave to each of them in turn. Several of his friends all seemed to have a date, or where in relationships already. With a year and a half to go before graduation, the young boy felt he could, and should, meet someone to spend time with romantically. After a few minutes, Ruki made his way towards the refreshment tables. These types of events where always accompanied by lavish banquets fit for kings. Not really hungry, which for once was a bit of a shock, the young Gryffindor walked along the tables wondering what to do. He hadn't really organised a date of his own this time; choosing instead to go alone and enjoy his evening.

Patricia couldn't believe it was that time again for the Yuletide Feast. It didn't seem that long ago that she had been forced into going by her friends last year. It was strange last year she had been so against going, she had been far too upset about going after everything that had happened with loosing Joseph and everything else. Although, much to her surprised it had turned out to be one of the best Balls she had been to so far at Hogwarts. Having had the falling out with Ruki she hadn't wanted to go but she was glad she had or Merlin only knows when the two could have or would have made up again. Even simply having a dance, or two, with a boy at the Ball was enough to make it her best Ball by far. It had never bugged Patricia that boys didn't notice her, it wasn't like she wanted to be noticed or anything, but simply having a dance with one made her night, the fact it was Ruki was even better.

Fixing her hair and dress, going for something a little different this time but it was still cute, she made her way down to the Great Hall with her friends. Being on the Fourth Floor she heard faint noise coming from the Hall. Always ready for a good night Patricia couldn't help but smile at the thought of dancing the night away. Not too long after she arrived at the Ball and waved good-bye to her friends as they went off to find their dates not before planning to meet up again a little later. Having no date she of her own, again, she made her way over to the refreshment table, as she did she looked at the decorations, lovely as ever she thought. She always went over to the refreshment table first at these things, not because she was hungry or thirsty but because it was a sure place to meet someone. And truth be told as soon as she approached the table she saw a familiar face. Smiling she approached her friend. "Hello handsome." she said, noticing that once again her was dressed much smarter than most of the boys, granted most of them made an effort tonight.

It wasn't too long until the young wizard caught sight of a beautifully dressed Hufflepuff. Smiling, Ruki raised his eye-brows playfully as Patricia made her way towards him. Her comment was met with a slight nod, and a wider smile. "You look dashing yourself.", he responded; noticing the feathery dress the young girl was wearing. After the Yule Ball last year, Ruki soon had the idea of dancing with Patricia some time during the evening. She moved rather well, and it would at least give him something to look forward to; if not just tonight, then any ball; feast; or dance that followed.

"No date of your own this evening?", the young wizard questioned. Heading to the event alone felt less restrictive, at least to him. There wouldn't be as much pressure to impress one single person for the entire night. The Gryffindor's evening agenda consisted of fun; fun; and a bit more fun. With the holidays merely hours away, and even though he was planning to remain at the school this time, it wouldn't be long until Christmas day.

As Ruki noticed Patricia she couldn't help but roll her eyes playfully while laughing lightly at his raised eyebrows. So far the night was turning out to be good and she had only said hello to Ruki. At his compliment Patricia blushed slightly while muttering words of thanks to her friend, her smile now turning into a grin. If it was one thing she didn't like about herself it was being too modest. She knew she looked nice, after spending so long on getting ready she better look half decent. Although she knew she didn't look as pretty as the rest of the girls in the Hall and she most definitely couldn't take a compliment well, she never could really.

At her friends question she shook her head, but didn't show any disappointment in her face. She wasn't really disappointed as, by now, she was used to boys not asked her to the Ball. "No such luck." she said with a simple shrug. Smirking lightly at her friend she asked, "And what about you? No girls take your fancy?" A small laugh lacing her words. If she was being honest, Ruki was really a catch, the perfect gentleman, kind, sweet and not too bad on the eyes either, surely he had girls that would jump at the chance of being on his arm, and in turn Patricia was sure her friend could have the pick of any girls that he wanted really. "Seeing as I'm dateless, save me a dance later?" she asked, hoping her friend would agree to the simple request. After last year it was something that she would most certainly be up for again.

After the thank-you, Ruki listened to Patricia as she proceeded to deny her attachment to a date's arm for the evening. It seemed she felt rather disappointed at arriving alone, but then why worry about such a tiny detail when you could have more fun with friends. A good laugh beat awkwardness any night of the week. Smiling at the young girl's question, Ruki shook his head slightly; before responding, "Not this year. I decided a night with-out a single person's company would be more interesting.". Truth being, the young wizard had never really looked for someone to invite to any of these types of evenings; nor anyone to begin a relationship with. Even though he had been noticing the girls a lot more, no-one drew his attention; or not enough to become romantically linked to them. With his new lease on life, Ruki simply planned to enjoy his remaining time at the school; romantic liaisons or not. It would all come with time. Hearing Patricia's words, Ruki bowed his head slightly. "It would be a pleasure.". The two of them dancing was certain to become a tradition at these events.

Turning to survey the tables of food, Ruki spotted another of his friends off to the side. With the night ahead still young, the young wizard thought of requesting a dance with her first. "Would you excuse me for a short while?", Ruki turned back to Patricia. "There is someone I would like to see.", he finished; before promising to return later for their own dance. With the young girl's acceptance, Ruki smiled; "I won't be too long.", he said as he turned to leave.

Told you it would all go wrong.

Patricia was positively beaming when Ruki agreed to a dance with her, it would be the highlight of evening. Sure it had yet to happen but it was the only the thing Patricia had to look forward too and she highly doubted she would get a better offer any time soon. Noticing the small silence as Ruki seemed be looking for something or someone her smile never faded, but she simply tried to spot her friends. At the other side of the Hall she could notice Becky and Stephen wondering if they would ever get together. She knew Becky was crazy about him and she knew Stephen well enough to know that there was something there. However the ball completely lay in Stephen's court as she knew Becky well enough to know she wouldn't make the first move. Patricia turned her attention back to Ruki as he talked again. When he excused himself she said, "Sure, go ahead." Having made no real plans for tonight Patricia figured Ruki would want to spend time with as many people as possible. "See you later." she said with a small wave as he walked over to someone. Once again alone, but at least with something to look forward too, Patricia set around the Hall to find some other friends.

With a relaxing song playing, Ruki felt he could loosen up with something simple to begin his night of dancing. He wasn't a dancer out of passion, nor had he any intention of doing such an activity professionally, but he enjoyed his time on the floor; moving to a variety of rhythms, with a variety of partners.

After his early dance, and saying good-bye to his dance partner, Ruki finished up his drink and turned to survey the dance-floor once more. He could take a slight break before heading to find Patricia, and keeping the promise of a dance with her. That is, if she wasn't already out there strutting it. Two songs and one sandwich later, the sixth year Gryffindor took to walking along-side the tables of food in search of his friend. It made sense to meet back roughly where they had left each other some time before, but whether his friend had the same idea; he wouldn't know until he saw her.

I am not doing this again.

Having caught up with a few friends Patricia made her way back to the food tables. She didn't feel right talking to a lot of her friends seeing as they all had dates. She, of course, felt like the third wheel which was never a pleasant feeling. Having no idea when Ruki would be finished talking to his own friends she decided to return back to where they had originally met, hoping to catch sight of him to see if he was still with friends or not. Patricia knew that Ruki could spend the night with whoever he wanted but she unfortunately didn't have the pleasure of such a thing and with Ruki as her only hope for a good night she was anxious to see him again. Looking up and down the length of the Hall she saw the familiar face of her friend...alone. Grinning she stood up from her seat and made her way down to him. "Having a good night so far?" she asked.

It wasn't long before he heard a familiar voice as he wandered along the hall. Turning in the direction of the sound, Ruki spotted Patricia stepping towards him. Smiling, the sixth year responded, "I am. It has been interesting and fun.". The young wizard's smile turned to a grin as he remembered the earlier dance. Maybe one with the Hufflepuff would be better though. Returning his attention back to Patricia now, Ruki questioned her evening so far. "Have you been finding enjoyment in your evening?". Ruki barely knew any of the young girl's friends, so wasn't sure which of them where here with dates; and who else was alone. If would have been slightly awkward for her if they all had someone to be with, but then; now that he thought about it, it might have been more awkward for him if he was the only one with-out a date for the evening.

Having spent the last hour keeping a watchful eye on the students within the Great Hall, Felicia felt the younger students where calm enough now to allow her to venture through the small groups of older students; checking everything was how it should be at these types of events. Her time at the school had given her an opportunity to recognise those of the students who where within the castle's walls to learn, and those who where there for fun. The professor wouldn't deny a young mind fun, but she would prefer her teachings where taken in. With her home a distance away in the Ukraine, Felicia decided not to head back there every time she had a day free in her work schedule; choosing instead to stay at the school. Chaperoning the Yule Ball then, was a decision made solely on the amount of free time she had.

Whilst under employment at the school, Felicia had often seen her nephew going about his daily tasks. She even taught him Divination, which is something, if she wasn't more or less a cold person, the older woman would be proud about. So far, the young student had no idea that she was the very woman that was his mother's sister; the auntie he barely remembered. For now, Felicia intended to keep that knowledge to herself. Having re-taken her own mother's name after her husband past, the professor had no worry of anyone in the school informing Rukevra of a similarity in names. As much as she would rather spend her time at home, continuing to live her life quietly, Felicia knew she had to take up the teaching position at Hogwarts. Her sister was foolish enough to have married, and become, a Death Eater; but to have involved, and thus neglected, her own child wasn't something the older sibling agreed with. The two had rarely seen eye to eye for many years now, but Felicia took it upon herself to watch out for her nephew. Something was going to happen. She knew when, but she didn't know what.

Moving swiftly past the tables, which held a number of snacks and drinks, the professor came across the very nephew she was here to protect. Casting an eye towards the student he was talking with, Felicia took note of how well she was glowing. The stars knew Rukevra required a break in his life, and right now, the two students looked as if they would make a lovely couple. Catching her nephew speak, Felicia could only smile at how well he had been brought up. If his father had done right by him in one aspect, his behaviour was definitely it. Choosing her moment appropriately, the professor spoke to the two students. "Your evening is going well I hope?". There wasn't a requirement for introductions.

Patricia was glad that her friend seemed to be enjoying his night. This had been her fifth Ball at her time at Hogwarts and she had enjoyed them all, with this only being Ruki's second she appreciated how little time he had left at Hogwarts and making the most of it while he was here was important. "I'm glad!" she replied, noticing his grin. In the year and a bit that Patricia had known Ruki he had seemed to have changed so much, in a good way of course. The fact that he seemed much happier was pleasing for the young Hufflepuff, she never liked to see any of her friends upset. When Ruki inquired of her night she replied, "I have! I love these, they are always so much fun!" Happiness clear in her features and her voice. She may not have had as much fun as she had in previous nights but she knew it would be getting better soon.

As Patricia was about to ask about that dance she saw someone approach them from the side of her eye. Turning she heard the older woman address them. Patricia didn't know the woman. Sure she knew that she was one of the Professors, she had seen her at the Staff table so that was obvious. Although, never having the woman as a Professor, Patricia didn't know her name. "Very well Professor, thank you! Are you enjoying yourself?" she asked, never loosing her manners - especially after what happened in Herbology she was determined to use them more often.

Listening to his younger friend as she spoke about her evening, Ruki smiled towards her when her voice filled with excitement. She really seemed to be happy, and that was something which would always make him happy. With no real plans for the evening, the young wizard thought about sitting down and chatting to his friend for a while; but then realised he could do that any other day whilst at the school. Tonight was a special night. A time for very little words, and many many dance-moves. Taking another look towards the dance-floor, Ruki decided it was a decent enough time for the two of them to head out there; just as soon as the current song finished playing.

Before he could say anything, a voice broke out from beside him. Turning his head, the young wizard saw his Divination professor; as she questioned their evening. Catching Patricia's response, Ruki waited for her to finish before giving one of his own. "Yes. Thank-you professor.", the young wizard extended a polite nod of his head. The professor seemed to be rather friendly, in-side and out-side of the class-room; which placed her separately from some of the other professors. Many of whom where either overly-cheerful; or simply too cold.

Extending a warming smile towards the young witch, having listened to both of the students responses, Felicia took a quick look around the hall; before answering her question. "If warning immature students to behave is enjoyment, then I am having a ball; so to speak.", the professor smiled once more. So far, no-one had caused enough trouble to be punished; which was a slight disappointment. "I shall leave the two of you to enjoy the remainder of your evening.", Felicia directed; her hands cupped together. With a final; caring smile towards her nephew, Felicia set off to hunt out rule breaking students. The night was still early.

Listening to the professor discuss her evening, Ruki smiled as he saw the funny side to what she was saying. Nodding his head as she expressed her wish to leave, the young wizard turned back to Patricia; and, giving the Hufflepuff a smile, invited her to dance. He hoped there would be no further interruptions, or mishaps, as he politely extended his hand towards the floor; allowing his friend to lead first if she wished.

The previous song had come to an end, but another had took its place; rather un-fortunately. At least the steady; relaxed pace would allow the pair to settle in. This time around, there had been no confused anger between them. This time, the dance would be something different.

I am lost; confused; and Opera sucks!

Patricia laughed softly at the Professor's words. She wanted so badly to be a Professor at some stage when she was older and if she was lucky enough to get a position in Hogwarts she would be in the woman's shoes. Having to supervise all the children and not have much time to enjoy herself, and knowing her luck the students be a well behaved as they were tonight. Then again she would worry about that if and when the time ever came, she hadn't even done her OWLs yet, it wasn't time to be worrying about the future; especially not when she had a dance waiting. Saying good-bye to the Professor, Patricia turned her attention back to Ruki her smile widening at the sign of his own.

As Ruki extended his hand Patricia rolled her eyes, Ruki was such a gentleman pretty much all of the time and Patricia wasn't used to that, it was hard for her to react to it sometimes. Not wanting to waste time any more time Patricia grabbed Ruki's hand and made her way out to the dancefloor. She was glad that she was able to wear and dance well in heels or else the height difference between herself and Ruki would be very noticeable, even if she had grown a few more inches since last year. As the two friends reached an empty spot on the dancefloor she kept her hand entwined in Ruki's as she waited for the next song to begin.

About to follow his younger friend onto the floor, Ruki felt a sudden pull against his arm. Patricia had pretty much grabbed his hand, and set off towards an empty spot on the dance-floor. How she managed to move in the shoes she was wearing amazed him a little, and caused the young wizard to wonder how well she would be able to dance. He didn't wish to cause her any injury. With his fingers closed around the young Hufflepuff's, Ruki glanced towards the band as a new song began to play. Smiling at the tune, the Gryffindor twirled Patricia closer towards him; before starting, swiftly, to dance.

With her hand still entwined in her friends she turned her attention to the band, wishing they would hurry up she wanted to get dancing really badly. Why? She didn't know. She loved to dance, having taken classes for a few years before coming to Hogwarts and keeping them up when she returned home for the holidays. Albeit she knew, somehow, that the reason for her eagerness to start dancing was not to do with her passion for it but more along the lines of who her partner was. After the dances their shared last year Patricia couldn't wait to dance with him again, she loved the way she felt when she was in his arms.

When the band started to play their next song Patricia started to laugh, it was such a good song and a brilliant one to dance too. Although a bit of her felt sad that it wasn't a slow song, out of the dances she shared with Ruki last year the slow was the best. There was something about being held close to Ruki that really appealed to the Hufflepuff. Those thoughts didn't last long as Patricia felt herself being twirled towards Ruki, smiling up at him she started to dance to the upbeat song. Patricia was so glad that she hadn't worn a long dress this year, with the slightly shorter dress she was allowed more freedom to dance in the same speed as the song.

As the song drew to an end Patricia was thoroughly enjoying herself. Even if it wasn't the slow song that she would have liked she kept her hopes up that a slow song would follow the current one and Ruki wouldn't mind sparing another dance. The song drew closer and closer to the end and remaining close to Ruki the young Hufflepuff continued to spin and dance in whatever way the beat moved through her body. After a random turn Patricia cast her eyes upwards towards her friend to see if he too was enjoying himself. It was a strange sensation that came over the young Prefect, one that she had never felt before. It felt slightly like the one she had when with Ruki, but much stronger. With the sharp twist in her stomach coming on her so quickly Patricia had lost her concentration mid-spin. Feeling her right foot get caught behind her left she quickly, even though it felt like it were in slow motion, made her way to the floor.

Listening to his friend laugh, Ruki smiled; mirroring hers as they moved along with the rhythm. The dress worn by the Hufflepuff looked great, and allowed her to move flawlessly. The sight of it flowing about her caused the sixth year to watch her every move; never taking his eyes from her slender figure. She was certainly an attractive young woman. But then, so where most of the girls at this point. Continuing his movements, Ruki was rather enjoying this dance. With the current song coming to its end, the Gryffindor wondered whether or not a second dance would be suitable; so decided, when the song ended, he would simply follow Patricia's lead. If she continued to dance into the next song.

Watching his friend move, Ruki couldn't help but feel slightly attracted to her. Her current gyrating; her ability to listen; her unique way of having fun. It all drew him in. There was something about her that he had never seen in any other girl at the school. Or was there. Pushing the thoughts from his head, the young wizard simply put it down to his getting older; and more mature. He could feel the same around Andromeda if she stepped too close to him; and most likely any other girl too. Returning his full attention to Patricia, Ruki caught sight of her turn; and smiled as she looked up towards him. She appeared to be fully enjoying herself; which was good. At least he could do one thing right by her.

Time seemed to run slowly for a few moments, as, out of nowhere, the young Hufflepuff suddenly tripped; and headed directly towards the floor. Stopping himself from turning, Ruki quickly threw out his arms. He had no idea what was happening, or what he was doing, but seemingly managed to do the right thing; as he caught the young girl before she collided with the ground. His left arm now positioned behind her back, Ruki turned her up-wards; his right hand on her left waist. Taking a second to think, the young wizard laughed slightly. "I think we may get away with this.". To anyone looking now, it would appear that he had purposefully directed her close to the ground; bringing an end to the dance. "Maybe I should conjure a rose.", the sixth year chuckled; even though he had one, already in his arms.

Patricia didn't have much time to think as her face nearly made contact with the hard floor below. She just about had time to bring her hands up a bit to help soften the the fall. Closing her eyes so she couldn't see the floor as she fell towards it she felt herself stopping in mid-fall and being turned to her side with a sharp motion. Confused she opened her eyes to the sight of her friends face. The young Hufflepuffs heart began to beat fast and hard as she gazed into her friends eyes, the scare of the fall must have gotten to her. Slowly becoming aware of what had happened and her surroundings; where Ruki's hands were placed; the position she was in; she felt a blush rise in her cheeks. Giggling at her friends words she felt great admiration for him as he tried to make the situation less awkward. "I think we have." she added, her soft laugh still lacing her words, as she looked around seeing that no one was staring at them.

Odd! she thought as the knotting sensation seemed to calm itself, giving a warm feeling in the pit of her stomach. "Thanks for...um...catching me." she said, feeling a bit awkward about how she had managed to get into this situation in the first place as she was embarrassed that she had tripped in front of Ruki. "A rose would be an excellent touch.." she grinned at the idea of it looking just like the muggle dance. " ..but not necessary." she added, with a light shrug of her shoulders. As the song had now ended and another one had started Patricia looked around, "Um, I think we should..um..stand up." she said laughing as she placed her foot to the ground. "Ow!" she said as she felt a sharp pain. "Ruki could you help me to a seat? I think I twisted my ankle or something." she said, disappointment clear in her voice. A slow song had began and she was annoyed that she wouldn't be able to have that second, slow dance with Ruki.

Taking in his friends response, Ruki smiled softly at her. It was likely she was beginning to feel rather embarrassed at what had happened, or, if not, then certainly the current situation. Taking a quick look up-wards, the young wizard saw no-one looking in their direction; which was good for the pair. As Patricia spoke again, Ruki looked down; and answered her thank-you with an attempt to help her relax. "I couldn't let the crowds gather to stare at my dance partner.". A slight cringe ran through the young wizard. Maybe that wasn't the greatest thing to say. With the song having now come to an end, and the pair still in their embrace, Ruki nodded as his friend shrugged her shoulders. Flowers where not necessary at this moment.

The young Hufflepuff's next words brought the sixth year back to earth with a bump. They where yet to stand up. Ruki cared very little about what they looked like, and anyone who may have been watching could send an Owl to Canada; or gossip as much as they wished, for the lack of sleepless nights he would have over not ending a dance immediately. As his friend positioned herself to stand, Ruki prepared to bring her to an up-right stance. As they did so, the young girl exclaimed painfully about her ankle. With a worried look up-on his face, the Gryffindor knew he would have caused her an injury. Kicking himself mentally, the young wizard agreed to assist her in locating a seat. Placing his arm around her waist, Ruki effortlessly scooped his dance partner from her feet; and set about carrying her from the floor. The less weight she placed on her ankle, the better.

As a slower song began to play, the pair exited the dance-floor. Reaching an empty seat beside one of the less occupied tables, the sixth year placed his friend gently into it; making sure he caused her no more pain. He couldn't help feeling it was all his fault. "I'll get you a drink?", the young wizard moved towards the tables. Looking over the contents, and with the dancing now over, Ruki felt he had managed to work up a small appetite; and give himself a little bit of exercise too. After a moment, the sixth year decided against something to eat; and poured himself and Patricia a drink instead. Returning to his friend, the Gryffindor student passed her a cup with a warming smile; before turning to look out across the dance-floor. With everything that had happened, he was fully enjoying his evening; and the music that was playing. It would have been nice to dance slowly to the current song though. Focusing again on Patricia, Ruki questioned, "How are you feeling?".

As Patricia was swooped up off of her feet she took in a sharp breath, she hadn't expected the motion whatsoever. As her heart continued to race she wrapped her arms around Ruki, not that she didn't trust him but it was an excuse to be even closer to him. As the two exited the dance-floor Patricia couldn't help but feel down heartened as she saw all the couples dancing to the song that had just come on. Flashbacks of last year ran through her head of the slow dance she and Ruki had shared. A dance that had started off as an awkward promise to one another that had turned into one of the best Balls Patricia had been to at her time in Hogwarts New Zealand, all because of Ruki. Actually, when she thought about it, Ruki had made her time at HNZ a fair bit more enjoyable ever since the two had met. She wasn't sure why but he had been a great friend to her and there for when she needed him and the sensation she got when around him or even when she thought about him (which she did more than would care to let on) albeit making her feel uncomfortable at times, she had come to enjoy the warm feeling she received like now for instance.

As Ruki gently placed her down on a seat she looked up at him, admiration in her eyes for her friends kindness. "Thank you!" she said to him. As Ruki went off to get themselves a drink she looked down at her ankle to see if there was any damage done. Taking another one of the spare chairs she placed her foot on it and examined her ankle closely, there was a little bit of swelling already but it would probably go down during the night. Taking her shoe off she rubbed her ankle a bit to help lessen the pain. When Ruki came back with the drinks she sat back on her seat again and took it from him, equalling his smile before she took a sip from it. "Oh I'll be fine!" she said as she waved it off. "Nothing big! Weak ankles run in the family." she said with a shrug, it wasn't such a big deal to her after growing up with constant sprains. "Thanks for tonight. I really enjoyed myself." she said with her smile never fading.

Lola couldn't believe that she'd let her cousin actually talk her into coming to the feast which actually wasn't much of a feast at all and more of a dance. She hadn't been the last three years that she'd attended Hogwarts New Zealand and not going this year would have suited her just fine, but then Kat had gotten her claws into the Ravenclaw and pretty much insisted that she attend. "You're only young once," her cousin had recited quite vehemently until Lola hadn't been able to resist. So she had sat with a pout on her lips as she let the older Gryffindor do her hair and make-up, but just about went into a tizzy when the older girl had shown her the dress that she was to wear. As always, Katalina had won that argument as well and the fourth year ended up slipping into the white dress that she felt was way to revealing for someone her age, but her cousin assured her she looked very appropriate.

Once her cousins date had pulled her away, Lola was left to her own defenses and feeling very out of her element. With her arms crossed over her chest she turned into her normal wall-flower self and took a seat in the corner away from the general crowd. The Ravenclaw watched the couples as they danced to several songs and sighed heavily. She stood and smoothed the front of her dress and was about to sneak out back to the tower when she noticed someone that she recognized. For a split second she had almost thought about actually going over and saying hello, but as usual her shyness got in the way and so she quietly exited the Great Hall, unnoticed by anyone.

It wasn't until she had reached the second floor that she realized that if she kept avoiding situations like these then her remaining three years here would be very lonely...perhaps lonelier than she already was. All of a sudden she found herself turning around and heading back down to the party, which was still in full swing. When she spotted Ruki, who was sitting with a girl who she was pretty sure played quidditch for Hufflepuff, her cheeks pinked up considerably, though at the time she wasn't sure why. Taking a giant breath in and then letting it go, Lola walked over to the pair. A little small talk won't hurt you. Might do you some good to make some friends she thought as she plastered a smile on her glossed up lips. With her brown eyes sparkling with anticipation, Lola stopped just beside the couple and said, "Hi. Don't know if you remember me or not. We met outside the library when I quite literally ran into you. I, um, just thought I'd come over and say hello." Trying not to let her nerves get the better of her she looked at the girl he was with and extended a hand saying, "Hullo! I'm Lola. Your dress is absolutely stunning."

There, she had done it. She'd tipped her toe outside of her box, though now she had absolutely no clue as to what she was supposed to do.

Seeing his friend sat back on one chair, with her injured foot on another, caused Ruki to think his evening had come to an end. He wasn't going to leave her sat alone just so he could squeeze in a little bit more fun before heading up to bed. If he knew anything about massages, he would offer to rub her foot for her; but suddenly thought better of it. What was coming over him. Re-focusing into the hall, the young wizard listened to the young Hufflepuff assure him she was feeling okay; shrugging the injury off as if it was an every day occurrence. As she continued, Ruki equalled her smile when she thanked him for the evening; responding in kind. "And thank you.", the gentleman gave a short bow; his right arm flailing out to the side. His smile had become more playful now, as he suddenly thought he would be in for a smack. How Patricia always managed to put up with his polite attitude towards others caused him to hold admiration for the young girl. Not many other students in the school would do the same as she.

Taking a drink, the slow song having now come to an end, Ruki thought about what the two could do for the rest of the night. Further dancing would not be likely, so a bit of fun was the plan. Spotting a piece of mistletoe floating about over head, which had seemingly been making its way around the hall; in search of young couples waiting for that romantic moment, Ruki slightly nervously twisted his cup as he thought about mentioning it to Patricia. The more he thought about it; no. The more he thought about her, the greater the feeling in his stomach grew. This was something new he was feeling, and it was a strange sensation. Strange; but nice. The seventeen-year-old was once again pulled back to reality when a voice interrupted his thoughts. He had certainly been zoning out a lot this evening. Turning to locate the owner of the voice, Ruki's mouth suddenly fell open; and his eyes widened slightly; before he managed to compose himself just as quickly, and hopefully un-noticeably. With everything he was beginning to feel, he was not wanting embarrassment to be one of them.

Dressed in one of the nicest dresses the young wizard had ever seen, and with her cheeks looking pink; her eyes sparkling; and her lips reflecting the light from the hall, Lola was beautiful. Mirroring her glossy smile, Ruki responded to her. "Hello, yes; I do remember.". It was some time ago that the two had collided on the fourth floor, but it wasn't something easily forgettable. The young wizard had felt his day brightened after meeting her, and had hoped for some time that she would accept his offer of socialising. But tonight was just as good as, if not better than, any other; and the Gryffindor was happy to see her. As Lola introduced herself to Patricia, Ruki silently agreed with her comment. Everyone looked fantastic this evening.

Patricia kept her eyes on Ruki, the warm feeling in the pit of her stomach remaining as she did so. She noticed how Ruki seemed distant momentarily but took no notice of it. To be honest she didn't really mind she was just glad that she had him for some company. She was of course upset that her injured ankle had put a stopper on the night for her, she had enjoyed herself so much up to this point and wasn't particularly ready to retire to her dorm for the night. She understood if Ruki wanted to go and have some fun with his friends but just because she understood didn't mean that she would be happy about it. She wasn't sure why, but she knew she would be disappointed about it, she enjoyed Ruki's company too much to be alright with him leaving her to spend the rest of the night with someone else.

When Ruki, in turn, thanked her for the night along with a little bow Patricia couldn't help but giggle at his gentleman ways. It was one of the many things Patricia admired about him. It definitely set him apart from a lot of the other boys that Patricia had met, sure maybe Riley offering to pay for their meal may have been seen as gentleman like but the way he had said how 'ladies choose where to go and the males pay' had irked the young Hufflepuff slightly - even though she had taken him up on his offer. "You're welcome!" she said her voice sincere, laced with her laugh to match the playful smile her friend was giving. Taking her eyes from Ruki for a glance around the hall Patricia noticed a few bits of mistletoe but quickly took her eyes off of them when she felt her stomach twist as thoughts of Ruki had just so happened to cross her mind. She couldn't describe what had come over her but she wanted nothing more than to dismiss it.

Patricia turned her attention back to Ruki, who seemed to be looking around the hall too. Although soon enough the two friends attention had been taken by a new voice. Looking up at the girl who came over and started to talk to Ruki, Patricia missed how Ruki's facial expressions had changed momentarily. Patricia sat and waited as to the two exchanged 'hello's' and what not. When the new person, Lola, turned her attention to Patricia, the young Hufflepuff too extended her hand, "Hi Lola. I'm Patricia." she said as she placed her hand on her lap once more. As the young girl complimented Patricia's dress the Hufflepuff smiled back, "Thank you! Your dress is so pretty!" she replied back. Even if it is a bit short! she thought in her head as she examined the dress a bit more. Stop it! she thought back to herself, it wasn't like Patricia to think ill of someone like that, especially someone she just met. Maybe Patricia was getting ill, she was very much unlike herself tonight, the thoughts she had, she feelings she was having...what was happening to her.

Lola breathed an audible sigh of relief when the older boy said that he did remember her. On many occasions the Ravenclaw has considered taking Ruki up on his offer to help her 'socialize', but everytime she let her shyness get the better of her and flaked out. Tonight on the other hand seemed like a better time to take him up on it and even if it wasn't much to others, she knew that she'd taken a major step outside of her comfort zone in not only approaching him, but the girl he was sitting with as well. "You look quite dashing this evening," she said and her face immediately went bright red, hoping that he wouldn't think her too forward.

Grinning politely at Patricia the brunette said, "Oh, thank you. In truth I didn't pick it out, my cousin did. I wouldn't have picked something quite so, urm, revealing I guess would be the word, but you just don't ever really tell Kat no so here I am in this dress. Can't really make her understand that just because she likes to be looked doesn't mean that all of us do, but well you don't mess with Kat...I guess I learned..." Lola cut herself off taking a deep breath in and shaking her head lightly from side to side. "Sorry. I suppose a simple thank you would have sufficed...sometimes I get a little wordy," she said apologetically to Patricia.

Turning to look at Ruki she smiled shyly and chanced a slight glance back at the pretty girl he'd been with. Then it hit her. Ugh, you big oaf, you just interrupted their date she thought flinching slightly. "Um, so, I, urm, well just wanted to come over and say hello. Sorry to have interrupted the two of you. It was lovely to meet you Patricia," the fourth year said sweetly as she turned to walk away, feeling a little foolish.
