Poppy was having a great time and could feel that her cheeks were getting warm after dancing. She really loved going to the ball every year and while some of her friends now had dates to go with, she didn't mind going by herself. She liked the freedom to do whatever she wanted and dance whenever she wanted. Breathless she walked over to the snack table and glanced around to see if she could spot Knox anywhere. If she was going to run into him anywhere she figured she would find him there. Eventually Poppy decided on a cupcake with white frosting and picked it up carefully of the table. She shuffled off to the side and decided to eat it without bothering to sit at one of the tables. She peeled back the paper liner carefully and took a bite. It was delicious, of course, and she was about to take another but froze when she felt like there was someone watching her.

Kas wasn't really sure fancy dances were his scene. They always seemed lame, with people either awkwardly standing off to the side or awkwardly clomping around on the dance floor. Kas could be awkward on his own time without music or sparkly decorations, thank you very much. But ever since he realized how much he'd missed out by skipping the spin the bottle game, Kas was a bit more willing to poke around at school gatherings. If only to make sure he wasn't missing anything important. Like Poppy Perkins getting icing all over her face without realizing it.

Kas had been watching her, mostly because her red hair was distracting, and couldn't stop himself from walking over when it became apparent she had no idea there was food on her face. "You've got icing. On your cheek," Kas announced, tapping his own cheek about where the offending icing was on Poppy's face. "Just so you know." From Kas' experience, Poppy wasn't always the most observant girl, though Kas was pretty sure he'd seen her 'observing' some moss before, so maybe she was just discerning about what she paid attention to. Either way, someone had to say something, Kas was doing this for the greater good.

Poppy glanced over her shoulder trying to see if there actually was anyone staring at her or some kind of weird paranoia. But a moment later before her eyes landed on a boy in her year who did in fact have his eyes on her. It took her a second to remember his name and by that time he was gesturing at his face and telling her she had made a mess with the icing. She had never really spoken to him before and knew nearly nothing about him except that he was friends with Connor. “Oh! I do?” she asked, surprised and put her hand over her mouth as she mumbled with her mouth full. She quickly wiped a finger across one cheek and felt nothing and then tried the other where she did in fact discover a glob of frosting on her cheekbone. Poppy swiped at the offending icing and just as quickly licked it off her finger. “Did I get it?” she asked, turning to face Kas more directly. ”Thanks, I would have looked quite silly.” she said with a laugh.

There were a few perilous seconds where it seemed like Poppy wasn't going to find the offending icing on her face and he was going to have to take matters (and a napkin) into his own hands like someone's over baring grandmother, but thankfully he was saved from any matriarchal duties when she managed to swipe most of it off her cheek. "Close enough," Kas said indifferently, trying to decide which angle to lean against the table to properly convey how little he cared despite having moved several feet over here to tell a classmate she had food on her face. "I didn't think you were too concerned about looking silly, just going off.. Prior experience," He commented, though he had to admit Poppy had at least seemed to have made an effort tonight, part of why he needed to make sure she wasn't walking around with festive frosting everywhere. It was incongruous.

Poppy finished her cupcake quickly, making sure to keep her face free of frosting. Although she did run a quick hand over her face to make sure she was actually in the clear. She was about to respond to Kas' comment but there was something in his tone that made her hesitate as her ears got hot. “Oh well...I guess not usually.” she said with a slightly uncomfortable laugh. Poppy hadn't really considered the way others might have viewed her, but she did know it wasn't up to her to deal with other people's thoughts. “I just think you can waste a lot of time worrying about looking silly.” she added, noticing the stiff way he leaned against the snack table. "Are you enjoying the dance?" she asked, wanting to change the subject.
