Open after Daphne posts with Jasper

After speaking with Professor Styx, Maris had been obliged when he agreed that getting the Slytherin boy, Jasper, to clean up his own mess would be an appropriate punishment. She'd wasted no time volunteering to oversee the detention as well, promptly escorting Jasper back upstairs to get started immediately. "Right, I think it best you start by picking up every piece of that lavatory that you exploded," she said as she burst back into the room, nose wrinkling at the sight of the mess he'd left. At least the lingering scent of the dung bomb had mostly vanished, though it would have added a new layer to the punishment if it hadn't. "Nothing quite builds your appreciation for the things you destroy than having to pick up all the pieces again. By hand, thank you," Maris said, making sure Jasper wouldn't reach for his wand for this task. There were porcelain shards all over the room and Maris thought it would be rather appropriate to supervise Jasper until he found every last one.

Jasper sighed as he entered the lavatory for the second time in a short time, unhappy to see that his mess was still there. He wondered if Miss Wormwood told the house elves not to clean it up, and if it would have been possible to bribe them to do so. Oh well, it was too late now. "Right. Got it." He said when she told him he had to start by picking up every piece of the exploded toilet. "You know you could fix this in two seconds right? Heck, I could too, we learned reparo in second year." He told her as he bent down to pick up the pieces. "You gotta admit it was a little funny, though. Just a little?" He asked, glancing at her curiously.

Maris stood awkwardly near the disused sinks as Jasper got to work, making sure her arms were crossed and her expression was as severe as possible whenever Jasper looked at her. "I'm sure you could, but that's not that point," she said shortly. "The point is there are consequences, often tedious consequences, for your actions." Maris deepened her frown when Jasper tried to convince her his reckless actions had been 'funny'. "There is nothing funny about destroy school property," she snapped. "Did you think who might have to deal with the mess you'd made if I hadn't found you?" She doubted any student thought further ahead than their own nose, but maybe she could actually impress some responsibility on this student, if only for a moment.

Jasper sighed when the caretaker said the point was that there were consequences for his actions, it was the same old speech he'd been given before. He didn't even see a hint of a smile when he brought up that his joke had been a little bit funny, leaving him to decide Miss Wormwood was definitely humorless. "Well, you?" He asked when she asked him who would have had to deal with the mess. "And you would have waved your wand and fixed it in two seconds, right?" He said, unable to help smiling a bit. "Like I just mentioned?"

Maris could only arch an eyebrow at Jasper's flippant response. "And you think that's okay, do you?" she asked, voice cold and clipped in warning. "To inconvenience someone else because you think it's easy to fix? Perhaps I have better things to do than run around after wayward students who think it's fun to cause problems at other people's expense," Maris said sharply, pointedly ignoring where she could see a shard Jasper had missed to pick up. "Your attitude proves exactly why you should be doing this by hand. If you intend to waste my time, I only think it's fair I get to waste yours. We'll be here as long as it takes for you to pick up. Every. Piece,' she said, crossing her arms and pointedly checking her watch. Hopefully Jasper would finally realize now that she was being deadly serious about this.

Jasper was a little surprised at how angry he was making Miss Wormwood, though he knew he had to tread carefully if he didn't want to get into another detention. He picked up more pieces, wrinkling his nose a bit as he picked up a few that had flown into particularly grimy corners. But eventually, he couldn't really stay quiet anymore. "I mean, sure... but I think you catching me and making me do a detention and having to talk to my head of house and having to watch me pick up all these pieces is a lot more of an inconvenience for you than it would have been if you hadn't caught me." He said, clearly not that bothred by the detention, even if it was a bit annoying. "So I guess if I had been better at not being caught I would have caused less of a problem." He mused out loud, unable to help smiling a bit as he picked up another piece.
