Lyra was pleased to see she remembered each students’ name as they came into class, smiling and nodding as they entered the room. She winked at William and Kiera, knowing they weren't necessarily enthusiastic about her substitute position. “Good morning!” She said brightly when everyone was seated, standing up from her desk. Her chestnut hair was hanging loosely around her shoulders with a pen stuck behind her ear. Lyra circulated the room as she began to talk.

“Now, I do hope you did your reading. Can anyone tell me what spell we’ll be using today, and what it does?” Lyra asked, smiling warmly and motioning for a student to answer. “Very good. Five points for you,” She continued on again. “Lumos is a very simple spell, and very useful. It is a spell that illuminates the tip of your wand and allows you to see in the dark, working much like a candle or a flashlight.”

Professor Potter paused in the front of the room. “Today, I would like you to find a partner, perhaps someone you don’t know. I would like the two of you to work together not just today, but for the remainder of this semester. Your grades are separate, of course, but I would like each of you to remember that your education is not something you must pursue alone. You have support, both from your Professors and from your friends.”

Lyra smiled, folding her hands together. “Does anyone have any questions about todays spell?” She asked, taking a few moments to answer all of her students before resuming the lesson. “Alright, my darlings, let us go ahead and begin.” With a wave of her hand, she dimmed the lights. “I am right here if you have any other questions. When you have successfully cast Lumos, try to counter it with the spell Nox,” She instructed calmly. Of course, it was not lost on her that those were also the names of her nephews.

Lyra wandered throughout the room, offering help to all who asked, moving back to the front as their time drew to a close. “I have seen remarkable work out of all of you today.” She turned the lights back on again. “Remember to do your reading, next week we will begin work on Wingardium Leviosa. Have a wonderful day!” Lyra moved to sit back at her desk, smiling fondly at all of her students as they were dismissed.

Eurydice skipped her way to Charm's class. This was the only class that she was remotely looking forward to at this point. All the others were boring with their lectures, and Herbology just wasn't appealing at all. At least with Charms, they were going to have the chance to do actual spells! Which was what one generally expected from a magic school. It didn't take her long to find her seat, just close enough to Rose. Thankfully, Eurydice's hopes were not dashed, and they really were going to be working on spells today. And since she did the reading, she had a pretty good idea of which one. She raised her hand to answer, "Is it Lumos?" Well, she supposed it was more of asking if she had the right answer. Finding a partner was a little bit challenging. Rose grabbed onto Jonah so fast that Eury didn't even have the chance to. She didn't even know Ro could move that fast! She glared at Jonah. How dare he leave her alone? See if she makes sure he gets to their other classes after this. She looked around and spotted her target. "Partner with me?" she says grabbing onto the sleeve of one @William Potter-Cade. She really hoped he'd say yes.

As soon as she'd gotten a partner who agreed to work with her, she brought out her wand and tried the spell. "Lumos." It didn't really work out. She wasn't expecting it to anyway, not knowing how much magic she needed to use nor how she should project her intentions. "Any ideas?" she asked her partner. The two of them had to try it a few times until a light was produced from both their wands. This made her quite ecstatic that she cheered and almost hugged her partner. Since they'd established what worked for casting Lumos, it was a little easier to figure out the opposite. "Nox," she intoned firmly and the light finally went out. She cheered appropriately when she noticed that they both managed to accomplish the two spells. It was a fun class and she was looking forward to the next one.

As Tori entered the classroom, her curiosity was obvious and her enthusiasm was palpable. She greeted the Professor with a bright smile and a polite nod, her long hair tied neatly in a ponytail down her back because she had expected to be doing spells today. She settled into her seat, her eyes eagerly scanning the room as she absorbed the familiar, comforting atmosphere of the classroom. As Professor Potter began the lesson, Tori listened intently, her face lighting up with recognition at the mention of the Lumos spell. Her mind wandered to her friend Lumos and she looked over at Nox and she wondered what they would think of this spell when they got to this point. She loved practical magic and the tangible results it produced. When the professor asked about the spell and its function, Tori raised her hand enthusiastically, but someone else answered first. She smiled, feeling a bit of relief; she didn’t want to seem too eager.

When the instruction to find a partner was given, Tori glanced around the room and turned to the student next to her. Who just so happened to be her friend @Nox Walden-Cade
“We should partner for this spell.” she told him with an amused smile. They both found a spot in the room to work together. As the lights dimmed, Tori felt a rush of excitement. She held her wand steady and whispered, "Lumos." The tip of her wand glowed brightly, casting a warm light around them. She giggled at the fact that she would always be reminded of the other twin whenever she used this spell. "Now for the counter-spell," Tori said, focusing again. "Nox." The light at the tip of her wand extinguished instantly, leaving them in semi-darkness again. She snorted at Nox, laughing again at his commentary about the lesson. When Professor Potter turned the lights back on and praised the class, Tori grinned, she loved it when she got things right. Gathering her things, she turned to Nox and said sincerely, “Looking forward to working with you for the rest of the semester.” She quickly left the classroom, heading for the common room to find a place she could practice this spell on her own.

Rose, sitting in the back of the classroom, was visibly anxious as she fidgeted with her wand. When the Professor announced the need for partners, Rose's heart raced. She had hoped for a quiet, solitary day, but found herself thrust into the bustling social dynamic of finding a partner. As the Professor encouraged everyone to partner up, Rose's eyes darted around the room, trying to avoid eye contact with anyone who might notice her hesitation. In a swift, almost desperate move, Rose grabbed her brother Jonah - from Hufflepuff - who had been chatting with Eurydice, and without a word, dragged him to the corner of the classroom. She was relieved to have someone familiar to work beside her, though her cheeks were flushed with embarrassment as she set up their workspace.

As they began practicing the Lumos spell, Rose's nerves seemed to settle slightly, thanks to Jonah's reassuring presence. Despite her earlier unease, she focused intently on the task, eager to prove herself capable. Jonah’s calm guidance helped her find a rhythm with the spell, and with a flick of her wand, Rose managed to produce a bright beam of light. She quickly followed Professor Potter's instructions to counter it with Nox, feeling a mix of pride and relief as she succeeded. By the end of the lesson, Rose was more confident, having benefited from the unexpected partnership with her brother and the supportive atmosphere fostered by the substitute professor.
