Charms 2:3

Lyra couldn’t believe the semester was already halfway over. She really couldn’t. She thought she really had been doing well, none of the students seemed to outwardly hate her, though she could sense several that seemed annoyed in classes. That was to be expected, however, she didn’t expect every student to adore classes. She hummed lightly, eager for the class to begin.

Lyra smiled as the students came in, motioning for them to stay up front with her. “Please stay up front with me. Today we’re going to be practicing a few spells elsewhere in the castle,” she told them, tucking her auburn hair behind her ear.

Today we will be learning the locking and unlocking charm. Let’s begin with the unlocking charm. Wands out, please,” she instructed, keeping an eye on all of her students. “The incantation for this is Alohomora. Say it together please everyone: al-LOH-ha-MOR-ah.” She went over the pronunciation a few times, smiling at the students as they seemed to get a grip on the pronunciation. “Now onto the locking charm. This is Colloportus. Ready? cull-low-PORE-tus." She ran over this one a few times as well, smiling as the students seemed to grasp this one as well.

She clapped her hands together after a few moments. “Alright, everyone, very good. Now, we shall head down to the second floor, let’s go, all together now,” she herded them back out the door, leading them to the empty hallway. "Is everyone here?" She asked as they came to a stop, looking around to count the students and make sure no second years had tried to make a bid for freedom. "Okay, partner up please, and choose a door. Most of the classrooms on this floor are empty so you can practice locking and unlocking the doors." She smiled warmly, and wanting to give them more incentive to practice, she added, "For every door unlocked, and every door locked, using the spells, you will earn your house one point,"

She hoped her students would do well. She would be watching to see how the students were getting on and had a small notebook with the name of each of her students on it so she could keep track of who earned how many points. "Once you are finished, come and let me know please, otherwise good luck!" She smiled, watching them as they worked.

Total of eight points only please.

Sunday was pleased with how the semester was going. She felt successful- doing better in her classes, more present, and she'd felt like she'd finally made strides in making a few connections. She was pleased with herself overall, and after a rather extensive morning routine to make sure she was perfect for the day, she grabbed her bag and left for class.

She was liking the charms professor- she wasn't as sickly sweet as the old one, though the old one had been nice enough. She paused as they were told to wait and moved to the desk, listening with her head cocked to the side. Ah, alright, that makes sense.

Sunday took out her wand and followed along with the incantation instructions. Feeling confident (yet also nervous), Sunday followed the rest of her class up to the empty hallway. She chose a random partner, her worry getting a little worse. She stood at the door, going first, and it took her several attempts (and a bit of embarrasement) before she finally managed to get the locking spell, once. And it took her just as many tries to get the unlocking spell, as well- and still only once. Embarrased and a little infuriated that she'd done so little compared to her partner (who'd gotten at least triple what she had in success), Sunday stormed off, cheeks burning and shame twisting her gut.

Alana entered class, feeling prepared for another practical lesson. The halfway mark of the semester had come, and Professor Potter's energy seemed to match Alana's own enthusiasm, which made her all the sadder that she would no longer be teaching them soon. They would be learning the locking and unlocking charms which Alana thought would be incredibly useful.

Alana listened attentively as the spells were introduced, practicing the wand movements and pronunciations alongside her peers. When they were led down to the second floor for practical application, she partnered up and chose a classroom door to work on. Each time she successfully performed the spells, she felt a surge of pride and enjoyed contributing to her house's points tally. Alana appreciated the chance to practice in a more hands-on environment and found the experience both challenging and rewarding. She completed the task efficiently and returned to Professor Potter to report her progress having locked and unlocked a total of 6 doors. Once she told Professor Potter what she had done she made her way back to the classroom to grab her things and then left the classroom.

Cyrus settled into his seat in Charms, his mind on the upcoming Halloween Feast. He was excited about the decorations and the special food, and couldn’t wait to see what the Great Hall would look like. He didn’t have a great costume yet, but he had some ideas in mind.

As Professor Potter started the class, she called the students to stay up front with her. She announced that they would be learning the locking and unlocking charms today. Cyrus pulled out his wand and listened attentively as she explained the spells. For the unlocking charm, "Alohomora," she went over the pronunciation a few times, and Cyrus practiced saying it along with the rest of the class. Then, she introduced the locking charm, "Colloportus," and again repeated the incantation until everyone seemed to get the hang of it.

After this, they headed to the second floor where they would have to partner up with someone and practice locking and unlocking doors. Cyrus paired up with one of his classmates and practiced until he got the hang of it. He managed to unlock seven doors in total, which he was proud of. When they were done, he let the professor know and he headed off to his next class.
