Catharsis, And An Escape

Katerina's eyes widened. "Did he really do that?" she asked, in a whisper. "Um. Wow," she said, blushing slightly. Her heart pounded in her chest - perhaps the night wasn't a complete waste. She'd helped to make sure these really nice girls - girls she would happily refer to as friends - didn't end up completely heartbroken by Dom and Nic, and it appeared that Yvan didn't completely hate her. "Hmmm, what should we do, I wonder?" she mused out loud. She had ideas - so many ideas! - but she knew she couldn't get away with many of them. Especially not cursing them. This was something where she couldn't use what she'd learnt in Dark Arts class.

Rhyspa smiled when Katerina said she thought she was developing feelings for Yvan. He was very cute and he didn't seem like Dom and Nic, he didn't attack Katerina the way they did. "You should talk to him about that," Rhyspa suggested. "Maybe he feels the same way?" They began to start thinking of their revenge, all of Rhyspa's ideas would get them expelled.

"So," Rhyspa said. "What should we do?"

Katerina paused for a moment, looking around suspiciously. "Hmm...I thought I heard something..." she muttered. Inwardly, she cursed herself for leaving her wand on the ship. If only I'd got that thigh holster for my wand Sergei wanted me to buy... she thought to herself, amused. Katerina had thought it was too war-like. Perhaps she'd ask for one as a Christmas present. After all, it was war, now. "It was probably nothing," she said, brushing it aside.

Kat noticed the odd look that formed on Katerina's face so she automatically followed the girls gaze. "Are you sure? I didn't hear anything." she replied, looking around, hoping that no one was able to over hear their conversation. "Probably just a bird or the wind or something. There are always funny noises up here." Kat added, trying to be reassuring.

Having spent a good half hour alone on the lake shore, Yvan had then decided to search for Katerina. He wanted to comfort her and properly apologise for his own behavior. He had started on the first floor, and had even reentered the Great Hall scouring the crowd for her in case she had decided to return there. But as he had predicted, she was nowhere to be seen. So he began his slow decent of the castle, thinking hard about where he would go if he were Katerina. Then the strangest thought occurred to him as he climbed the staircase that led to the fifth floor corridor. He remembered that he had once mentioned the North Tower to her, and Katerina had seemed quite keen to visit it. Perhaps, he thought, she was there. It was the best lead he could go with, and so with an inkling of a feeling he quickly set off up to the steps that led to North Tower.
In his haste to get there however, Yvan did not noticed two figures huddled in the shadows of the staircase that led to the tower, and so he clumsily tripped on someone and found himself soon sprawled uncomfortably over the top most step, looking up at three very familiar girls.

"Probably right. I suspect it was nothing..." Katerina said, quietly. She looked thoughtful for a second. "Hmm...I think I have an idea..." she began. "What if we..." but she was cut off by a very familiar figure tripping over and landing before the three of them. Katerina reddened, her eyes widening in surprise. She gasped, astonished. "Yvan? What in the world -". Of course, Katerina was pleased to see Yvan, but she was also somewhat suspicious. Yvan wasn't clumsy. He didn't trip over nothing. She quickly crawled across the ground and looked behind him to see two all-too familiar shapes - the two people she really did not want to see. The urge to sink in to the floor was overpowering. What if they heard all we were saying? What if they heard what I said about Yvan? What if Yvan heard it? She buried her face in her hands, humiliated.

Yvan quickly scrambled to his feet blushing. He had just made a fool of himself in front of Katerina of all people. Sudden he'd wished the tower had been empty. Drawing out his wand he cast lumos and turned to see what, or more reasonably, who had caused him to trip over. Frowning he glared at his two friends, who had evidently been hiding and spying in on Katerina and the two other girls. He didn't know what to make of the situation though. Why were Nic and Dom's dates up here with Katerina in the first place? He wondered if they had been put up to it. Poor Katerina, he thought, which made him more angry.
"What the hell are you two doing here?" he demanded as Katerina covered her face in her hands when she too noticed Nic and Dom. "Have you not done enough!?" He'd had enough of standing by while they hurt Katerina.

Rhyspa's eyes widened as Katerina's date, Yvan stumbled across the floor, landing infront of them. Katerina gasped at the sight of Yvan and then crawled across the floor to see how he tripped. Rhyspa saw Katalina gasp and Yvan yell. She pulled herself up off the floor and made her way to the two. Rhyspa's eyes narrowed as she looked upon Nicolae Kobari and Dominik Marinescu. She held her tongue, keeping back words she knew would make her mother blush. Yvan asked them a what they were doing here and Rhyspa glared at the two waiting for an explanation.

Shock was displayed all over Katalina's face. Yvan had just tripped over her and Rhyspa's date. Had they been spying? How much did they hear? Shock quickly turned to anger as she stared at the two boys that were sitting in the stair well. "Did you follow us up here?" Kat asked Nic and Dom, her face going red with frustration.

Startled, Katerina lowered her hands and peered at the assembled group. Did Yvan just stand up for me, or am I dreaming? She was tempted to pinch herself to make sure, but she knew that was silly, and besides, her throat was aching enough for it to be real. Why would he do something like that for me? she thought, her heart beating like mad. She noticed Rhyspa glaring at Dom and Nic, and heard Katalina accuse them, as well, so she turned her best Ice Queen glare on the pair and waited for their explanations.

Nic simply laughed as he stood up and climbed to the landing. "Of course, darling, we followed you. You are really not that good of a liar Kat. You should take better lessons from your new best friend over there." His words dripped with sarcasm as he nodded in Katarina's direction. "And how wonderful, Yvan, to see that you came to your girlfriend's rescue. Or was this supposed to be a planned little rendezvous? You do remember she is off limits, right?" Nic gave Yvan a knowing look, hoping to remind him that Durmstrang girls were off limits for their little bet.

Dominik cursed loudly when Yvan tripped over himself and Nicolae. "Dammit! Guess our covers blown!" he said under his breath as he glared heavily between Katerina and Yvan. "So when were you planning on letting us know that you were a happy couple?" Dom said with an exagerrated smirk on his face. He could feel the intensity of Rhyspa's gaze that was set on him and he simply flashed her a smile and a wink.

Rage. That was the expression that overtook Katalina's entire face. "I'm not your darling you daft git." she spat nastily. With that Kat practically lunged toward Nic, her right hand going in for as hard a slap as she could muster up.

Rhyspa glared daggers at the egotistical boy as he attempted his flashy smile and wink. She wouldn't let him get under her skin. Rhyspa lifted her right hand up and raised a not-so-nice finger. "Sit on it and spin, jackass!" Rhyspa retorted.

Every word spoken by Nic and Dom made Katerina want to kill them more and more. Not only were they insulting her - which didn't bother her as much, Katerina was used to personal attacks, although being called a liar in front of two new friends annoyed her greatly - but they were insulting Yvan, as well. She wanted to curse them, but she knew she couldn't. There was no way she could bring Durmstrang, or the Ivanov family, in to disrepute. It was bad enough that she hadn't been chosen as champion. If she did anything seriously wrong, she'd probably be sent home to Moscow, and her father would probably kill her! Her face burned with shame and rage. Oh my God, what is Yvan going to say to that? Probably being around me is humiliating enough for him. She tried to keep her features stony, despite her embarassment - and despite the fact that Rhyspa's exclamation almost made her laugh. Katerina was amazed at Katalina and Rhyspa's outbursts, and Katerina wished she had the courage to do likewise. Instead she just sat, frozen.

Nic saw Kat make a move to slap him and put his hand up just in time. He closed his fingers around her wrist and held her hand away from his face. "Nice try baby." He glared back at her, getting mad at this point. He was slow to anger, but when he did, watch out. "I would not do that again." His voice was still even, but with a bit of an edge to it. He then looked over at Rhyspa sitting on the floor, flashing a finger symbol at his friend. "Wow, Dom. We found us some classy ones didn't we?" He had to give her a bit of credit, it was a funny phrase, but not directed at his best friend.

"Ouch!" Kat screamed as Nic grabbed her wrist tightly. "Let me go you're hurting me." she added trying to pull away. She was slightly frightened, but irritation over road any fear she was feeling at the moment. "Screw you. You wouldn't know class if it bit you in the ass. LET ME GO!" Kat managed to release her wrist from his grasp, but now her arm and wrist were sore from trying to pull away from him. Feeling rather defenseless without her wand she picked the next best thing...her shoes. Kat grabbed her right shoe from her foot and flung it at Nic's head. "I loathe you," she spat angrily, seriously wishing that she had her wand with her. She'd gladly do her time in Azkaban if she had the chance to curse him into oblivion right now.

Dominik had to laugh at the gesture and words that Rhyspa had just thrown his way. "Not very friendly at all now are we?" he smirked, not expecting a response. "Is this how you usually treat people who have been nothing, but kind and generous?" he asked Katalina when Nic grabbed her wrist, "Violence is never an answer." He had a rather ammused look across his face when the girl threw her shoes at Nicolae. What made her think that she could hit him with a shoe when she couldn't even successfully slap him?

"Only when provoked, darling," Rhyspa sneered. She was fed up with his "I'm A Durmstrang Boy, I Am So Hot, Drool Over Me" attitude. Rhyspa clenched her fists and saw Kat make an attempt to smack Nic, who in turn grabbed her wrist at the last second. Kat yelped and said it hurt her. "Let go of her!" Rhyspa screamed at the tall, blond boy. "You're hurting her!" She was mentally kicking herself for leaving her wand her dorm room. She sighed with relief as Katalina pulled herself out of his grip. Rhyspa had a feeling bruises were going to form there. She narrowed her eyes and glared at the two boys. She was beyond fed up with their antics.

Nicolae laughed and ducked the shoes that were tossed at his head. He seriously had had enough of this little girl. "Dom it looks like we have interupted the Queen and her court. Silly me thinking that this girl actually was worthy of my time. She obviously has not got a polite bone in her body or we would still be dancing downstairs at the Ball." He looked at his friend on the stairs with him, then at Yvan. "I would be careful, Yvan, these girls seem to not have a clue what they want." He looked pointedly at Katarina. "They want you one minute, then want to eat you alive the next." He grabbed Dom's arm. "Come on, let's go back to the boat."

Dominik was laughing as Nic dodged the flying shoes. "It seems what we have here is the Ice Queen, her two little Ice Princesses, and a joker." he said as he glared at Yvan. Nothing worse than being betrayed by your best friend over one of the biggest b1tches in the world. "I've grown bored with them all. Those two weren't as much fun as I had anticipated," he said as he looked at Katalina and Rhyspa and then added as he turned to Katerina and Yvan, "And you two are a joke." When Nic grabbed his arm, Dom turned to leave, but then looked at Rhyspa and said, "Thanks for the good time there dollface. If you ever need your feel of a real man then you know where to find me." He winked at her and chuckled saying to Nicolae, "Let's go man. It's getting to serious up here."

Yvan felt his face flush red, but he was surprised with himself that it was mostly with anger, and not embarrassment. When Nic called Katerina his, Yvan's, girlfriend, he could not suppress a feeling of warmth towards the term and silently he found himself wishing that it were true. However, at this he immediately felt ashamed of himself.
Everything else became a blur as Yvan doused himself in his thoughts and in turn became silent. He remained oblivious to everyone else and what was happening until Dominik called him and Katerina a joke. Searing heat and rage clouded his judgment and before he could stop himself, he raised his wand and bellowed, "Don't you dare insult us! Furnuncular!"
Yvan had always been known for his short temper, and how ruthlessly and unthinkingly he jumped in reaction to it. He watched as a flash off light erupted from his wand and went soaring away straight for Dom's face.

Anger exploded, like a volcano, in Katerina's head. She pulled herself up, and stood, defiantly, although her legs were shaking like mad. "You b@stards. Don't you ever, ever touch, or even come near these girls again, you hear me?" she whispered, her voice deathly cold. "You had no right to take advantage of these two, lovely girls, in such a manner. I am disgusted with you. More so than usual." To illustrate her point, she spat on the ground at Nic's feet - appalling herself with her own gesture. Katerina's mother would have been shocked if she'd seen that. Manners was such an important thing in the family. She clenched her fists, trying to stop herself from taking actions she really would regret. "I can't believe you two!" she almost screamed, trying to control her anger. In a way, she felt it was a good thing she didn't have her wand with her. "And don't you dare say anything about Yvan. He is at least a thousand times the man either of you will ever be." Katerina's head throbbed with pain, and still her brain told her to stop, and still it fought with her heart who urged her to keep fighting. "You two get the hell out of here." She stopped, as Yvan seemed to lose the plot too - and sent a curse flying towards Dom. She waited, trying to maintain a stony composure, for the curse to hit him.

Nic turned back to face Katarina. "Take advantage of them? Please. They were doing nothing that they did not want to do. Nothing you were all to willing to do not so long ago. I think your whole issue tonight, which is what started this if you do not remember, is that you are jealous of Katalina. She was doing exactly what you wished you were. If you hadn't left me, you could have been. So I guess this is a case of "if I can't have you, no one can", isn't it?" He looked at her, glaring daggers. He figured that she would try lamely to turn this back on him again, but didn't want to give her the chance. Tugging Dom out of the way of the curse Yvan had just sent their way, he pulled him down a step. "That was uncalled for. You better watch yourself there friend." Turning to Dom, he spoke quickly, "Let's go. I am done with these children." He started down the stairs, pulling his friend along with him.

"Eat you alive?" Rhyspa repeated. "Why we would be poisoned! You're filthy and disgusting Nicolae, absolutely putrid. Toxic waste is what you are." Rhyspa immediately closed her mouth when Yvan snapped. She gaped at him as he attempted to hex his friend, absolutely appalled. She turned to glare at Dom as he called her and Kat "Ice Princesses." Her eyes narrowed as he called her dollface and said to find him if she needed a real man.

"Dom, have you ever heard of Pinocchio?" Rhyspa asked. "His nose grows when he lies. Seems to me your nose just grew about a foot."
