Minister for Magic Election 2036
Following the resignation of the Minister for Magic, Seraphine Hensel, the wizarding community of New Zealand faces the arduous task of electing their new Minister for Magic. Over the past few weeks men and women have been stepping forward to put themselves down as candidates. Finally, we here at the Daily Prophet can give you the official list of the candidates who will battle it out for that top spot in the ministry. We are also able to give you a little bit of a information about each of the candidates. But, before we get to that, the candidates, they are: Ms. Avory Brandt, Mr. Carter Kaster, Mr. Cameron Kingsley and Mr. Mikhail Matthias.
The first of our candidates is Ms. Avory Brandt, a rather unknown figure in both the ministry and quite possibly in the wider wizarding community. She is thirty-eight years old, and went to Hogwarts Scotland, a slytherin. Ms. Brandt's best subject at school was transfiguration and is able to cast a full corporal patronus. In her platform she stated that she wished to reduce the amount of muggleborn students admitted into Hogwarts New Zealand, stating that "I wish to protect the magical world from being exposed to the muggle world". Her platform also states that when a child has a muggle parent the parent must cut themselves off from the muggle community.
The second of our candidates is Carter Kaster, who is also our youngest candidate at thirty years old. He also attended Hogwarts Scotland, a Ravenclaw. Currently he works in the ministry of magic's international magical law department and therefore has a little more experience in dealing with ministry workings and the law. Mr. Kaster's best subject at school was Charms and Muggle Studies, and is very capable at wandless magic. His platform includes the reform of the aurors and to make them more active in the wider New Zealand community as well as within the school. Even so far as stating that an auror presence in the school might be needed. He also wishes to create greater laws and improve the legal system within the ministry. He has also stated, "Dark families should be much more closely watched to ensure no illegal activity is being committed by any of them". We can therefore assume that Mr. Kaster intends to come down hard on the Scitorari and perhaps even sympathisers.
The third candidate is Cameron Kingsley, a surname which should be fairly familiar to people. His wife, Professor Cyndi Kingsley is the deputy professor at Hogwarts New Zealand. Mr. Kingsley is thirty-two years old and attended Durmstrang. He has two children, and is currently the head of the Unspeakables department in the ministry. Mr. Kingsley's best subject at school was a tie between transfiguration and charms. Readers may also recognise his name more due to the fact that he participated in the Triwizard Tournament a number of years ago. His platform is built around closer ties to the school, as well as increased laws to help improve the safety of the magical community in New Zealand. As quoted, "I wish for none to live in fear of leaving their homes". A sentiment that I think most would agree with. He has often spoken of the threat that the Scitorari poses, and wishes to root them out. He has told the daily prophet that he believes very strongly in doing what is best for the majority of the population.
The final candidate, and the oldest candidate running is Mikhail Matthias. Perhaps his age will benefit in what is a largely young selection of candidates. He is fifty years old, and like Mr. Kingsley attended Durmstrang. His best subjects at school were the Dark Arts and Charms. Despite what most might think about liking the Dark Arts, Mikhail has told the Daily Prophet that he disliked the spells, but learned to recognise them through the subject. He also is very apt at wandless magic. After graduating Mikhail worked as a healer. "I never wanted to be an auror because I could never see myself harming anyone. A healer seemed like a better choice" His platform includes increased and improved international relations between New Zealand and other wizarding communities, so that the communities can work together to end the prejudice. He wishes to provide extra assistance to auror so that they may be aided in their work against Scitorari. He promotes general safety, and greater equality through out the wizarding community of New Zealand.

That's all four candidates. What appears to be a common theme is the fight against the Scitorari, there is a lot of focus on the safety of wizards and the wizarding community. There is a less clear focus on education, which feature so much in the last election. Seraphine Hensel ran on a platform which focused strongly on connections between the schools and the ministry. In the up coming debates perhaps we will hear more about the candidates platforms and what reform they intend to bring in, if they are the ones elected. Will any of these candidates even be able to bring about any change, or will things just stay as they always have. In any case, we here at the Daily Prophet wish them the best of luck.

Folks are encouraged to post IC reactions to the announcement. Good luck to the candidates!
