For some reason, Aine had never thought of doing that, and she was quite impressed by Marnie's ingenuity. Perhaps it was because a part of her rallied against using magic and tried to solve problems the old fashioned way, usually often forgetting that magic could be used. She was getting better at actually using it now, but it wasn't part of her home life. "Ah, very smart," she said, appreciatively, apparently at the same time Demetrius did. She turned around and offered him a smile, trying to at least be civil even though she was thoroughly convinced he hated her because she was so weird and unlikeable and had done the absolute worst job ever trying to be friendly. She turned back to Marnie. "No, but thank you though," she said politely. Popcorn always dried her mouth out, and she tended to go for choc-tops at the movies instead. Which she would have invariably eaten by the time the ads ended.
The musicians were good, but Aine was curious to see what Veronique was going to do, quietly a little relieved it was something different to break things up. Although, she started singing. Aine blinked, staring in horror as the performance went on. She didn't want to laugh, as that would have been awful, but rather it kind of felt like she was watching a car crash. She wanted to look away, but she just couldn't. She didn't know whether Veronique was incredibly brave or incredibly foolish, or perhaps both. Aine admired the courage, but she suddenly understood why it was parents dreaded school recitals. (She felt especially bad for Siobhan, knowing she'd have kindergarten performances to deal with soon). Even though she didn't know the girl very well, the second-hand embarrassment festered in her stomach at the sight and she could feel herself cringing. And by the end, wondering if she should escape to call a nurse. All she could really do was, after a moment, awkwardly clap, biting her lip to stop herself from laughing at how uncomfortable this was.
