OOCOut of Character:
here is a space to react to the acts in the CAC showcase. watch the act, eat refreshments, admire decorations, and most importantly enjoy.

Marnie had been delighted when Sky had announced the Arts Club would be putting on a showcase. She'd then promptly spent so long trying to decide on something fun she could show off that she completely forgot to actually sign up. A minor oversight, but at least she could help out with set up and then enjoy the show from the audience, sliding into a seat with the biggest bucket of popcorn she could produce, just in case anyone wanted to share.

She clapped loudly when Sky took to the stage to address them, and even more so for the front of house before quietening down as best she could as the first performer stepped up. She let out a little 'ohh' as the boy raised a flute, eyes trained on him as she popped some popcorn into her mouth. The music was pretty, Marnie had never had much lucky with instruments, it took far more patience to get good than she had, and she enjoyed the sound of it as the boy played. It had to be nerve wracking too, Marnie wondered how he didn't mess up his breathing or however you played a flute. As the act ended, she clapped loudly, apologizing when she nearly spilt popcorn on her neighbor in the process.

Aine had never been artistic. She liked writing, but knew that wasn't necessarily something that she could present well in an artistic space (finding the paper far more helpful for that purpose). She had learned to play the piano very simply but hadn't touched it since going to Hogwarts - though it had been pretty obvious she was not a musical prodigy. And she certainly couldn't draw, nor did she think she could act effectively as she was quite terrible at conveying emotion. She could read out loud for any class presentations, but that was a different thing to acting. She knew she should have been focused more on trying to study for her OWLs, but frankly knew she could have used a break, so she was happy to go down to the arts showcase to see what everyone else could do. There was a little bit of envy in her heart, watching even young students play music well, but she pushed it aside to enjoy the performances.

"Wow," she whispered to nobody in particular after Sky finished her performance, until she turned around to see Marnie nearby with a huge bucket of popcorn. "Woah, where did you get that?" She'd seen some of the refreshments but was just drinking some water for the moment, as she was trying to do better at keeping hydrated.

Marnie watched, impressed, as Sky and then a younger student both took their turns playing music. Maybe she should try to learn an instrument, it certainly looked cool, she thought, eyes especially trained on Sky as she introduced the next act. It would be cool to be as multi-talented as her...

Her thoughts were thankfully interrupted from going too off the rails by Aine, and Marnie turned to smile at her. "Arts club member perks," Marnie said as slyly as possible before blowing her own cover with a snort. "No not really I just enlarged one of the buckets at the snack table so I wouldn't have to get up it might be a habit from living with my brother I always share with him and then by the time I look down all the food's gone I mean I love sharing but I get so caugh up watching the performances I forget I have snacks and then, ya know," she explained in a low voice as the next act took the stage. "You want some?" She added, eyes trained on the stage as Veronique took the stage. "Woo! Veronique!!" She hollered, clapping loudly and nearly spilling more popcorn in the process. @Aine Thompson

Demetrius hadn't even known there was a showcase going on. He'd just been wandering idly, taking a break from studying when he'd found that the great hall was decked out with a stage and refreshments. Never one to turn down free food, he'd gotten some popcorn and taken a seat. He'd been impressed by the acts so far - he'd never had any musical talent to speak of, so seeing all of the acts made him full of a sense of awe. He recognised the song the last act had played - a muggle song his parents played on their record player sometimes. It was relaxing to listen to, and he'd appreciated it. It must have been daunting to go after the girl with the violin? viola? was there a difference? but Demetrius thought he did really well.

He secretly listened in to what Aine and the other girl were talking about. He wasn't going to comment on anything but the girl's idea to enlarge the buckets was genius, in his opinion. "That's really smart," Demetrius said in his usual monotone voice. He looked at his smaller one and considered enlarging his too.

For some reason, Aine had never thought of doing that, and she was quite impressed by Marnie's ingenuity. Perhaps it was because a part of her rallied against using magic and tried to solve problems the old fashioned way, usually often forgetting that magic could be used. She was getting better at actually using it now, but it wasn't part of her home life. "Ah, very smart," she said, appreciatively, apparently at the same time Demetrius did. She turned around and offered him a smile, trying to at least be civil even though she was thoroughly convinced he hated her because she was so weird and unlikeable and had done the absolute worst job ever trying to be friendly. She turned back to Marnie. "No, but thank you though," she said politely. Popcorn always dried her mouth out, and she tended to go for choc-tops at the movies instead. Which she would have invariably eaten by the time the ads ended.

The musicians were good, but Aine was curious to see what Veronique was going to do, quietly a little relieved it was something different to break things up. Although, she started singing. Aine blinked, staring in horror as the performance went on. She didn't want to laugh, as that would have been awful, but rather it kind of felt like she was watching a car crash. She wanted to look away, but she just couldn't. She didn't know whether Veronique was incredibly brave or incredibly foolish, or perhaps both. Aine admired the courage, but she suddenly understood why it was parents dreaded school recitals. (She felt especially bad for Siobhan, knowing she'd have kindergarten performances to deal with soon). Even though she didn't know the girl very well, the second-hand embarrassment festered in her stomach at the sight and she could feel herself cringing. And by the end, wondering if she should escape to call a nurse. All she could really do was, after a moment, awkwardly clap, biting her lip to stop herself from laughing at how uncomfortable this was.

Tempest had considered signing up for the showcase, but she really didn't have any suitable talents for that sort of thing and would much rather spend her time elsewhere. She took a seat next to Enzo and some of her friends about midway back, snacking on something she bought from the concession stand as she waited for the showcase to start. She wasn't sure what to expect, but as it started, she was surprised by the first girl's act. It was kind of cool. The second one was okay, even if her classmate was kind of cute, and the third one was just, well, weird and embarassing. She tried to hold in her laughter as the girl continued to fail over and over again, but she couldn't help it, and a little snicker came out. Enzo half jabbed her in the side with his elbow, and she bit her lip but still kept laughing to herself. She didn't understand why someone would choose to go up there and embarass herself like that. And Tempest didn't think the whole "keep going" thing was the way to go this time. When the girl left the stage, the Slytherin, clapped really hard, even cheering, which could be seen as a sign of support for the girl but was more so mocking on Tempest's side, and slid back in her seat. She was enjoying this much more than she realized she would.

Teddy watched the performances and considered the possibility of one day performing himself. He didn't yet have any idea of what he'd do, but the stage looked tantalisingly within reach. Something else tantalisingly within reach was Marnie's popcorn but Teddy held off delving in for the moment. Then Veronique began her act, Teddy enjoyed her performance. But then, as things took an turn with the falling ribbon, Teddy's laughter bubbled up uncontrollably. It wasn't out of mockery, he found the whole mishap endearing. Her final smile and flourish with the ribbon drew a hearty round of applause from him. He wanted to see more acts like that!

The arts showcase didn't seem that interesting to just sit and watch, but Audrey wanted to go and watch Lucy do her thing. She'd probably heard most of it from her practice, and sometimes it got a bit much hearing the same thing over and over again, but that's what practice was. She probably was just as bad with some spells. Like when she'd been doing Lumos and Nox in very rapid succession to see how fast she could turn the light on her wand on and off again. That had probably annoyed the others a lot. Besides, practice was different to actually performing.

There were a lot of musicians, and sometimes Audrey wondered if she should have tried to play an instrument herself. Though it probably wasn't for her. She wasn't disciplined enough unless she was really invested. Enoch was there playing the flute, and Audrey was surprised that somehow he and Dante hadn't gotten each other expelled. The leader of the club played the viola, and a boy in second year played the guitar. A girl from Hufflepuff did...some kind of performance art, and Audrey pressed her palms very hard to her mouth to stop herself from laughing out loud, to some moderate success. She could see Oz giving her annoyed glances, but she could tell he was trying hard not to laugh, too. Still, though, it was entertaining, Audrey would give her that. Definitely worth coming to the show. She was able to calm herself down to give Lucy her attention, though, after all, she was here to support her first and foremost. Lucy performed really well, and the tonal shift from the last one was odd but not bad. When she was done, Audrey stood up and clapped loudly. She was tempted to be more obnoxious in her support by cheering and whistling but figured she would actually be a decent person, because she found she quite liked having friends.

Marnie preened when another one of the older students complimented her popcorn idea, feeling extra cool when the older kids took notice. She was going to talk more about snacks but she held her tongue as her roommate took the stage, ooing appreciatively at Veronique’s costume. Her enthusiasm waned some though as Veronique’s performance began, her singing wasn’t the best, but Marnie did her best to keep an encouraging smile on her face until Veronique fell, and then it became a wince as things seemed to keep going wrong. She made sure to shoot a nasty look at some of the kids she heard giggling behind her, clapping loudly as she could when Veronique finished, wondering if she should go check on her friend after this was all done.

Wow, performing is hard I think it’s probably good I didn’t sign up everyone’s talents are really impressive,” Marnie said a little loudly than she might have normally just in case anyone was still thinking less of Veronique. Thankfully Sky moved the show on quickly and after a rather impressively talented violin performance Marnie was distracted from her concern for her roommate when Felix took the stage next. While she wasn’t in love with him any more, she had Emrys, his performance might had helped disperse any lingering feelings. It was kind of cute to see him playing with his sister but mostly it was a bit embarrassing when you could just do everything they were doing with real magic. Still, it was kind of cute in an awkward way and Marnie clapped along as Felix and Thistle finished.
