Emmaline could not believe she had been talked into doing a matching costume with her younger sister. Of course it didn't take much convincing. Emmaline had been feeling terrible about basically ignoring River since they arrived at school. It was something she didn't intentionally do, but the young Gryffindor had more important things to focus on, well she had school. School shouldn't be more important than family, but Emmaline had never been good at balancing. So when her younger sister approached her with the idea, Emmaline had to agree. She had spent a lot of time creating costumes, making sure that they did not match entirely. She did not want anything to think they were trying to be twins or anything.
The young Gryffindor entered the Great Hall, feeling ridiculous. River said she would meet her here, but of course River also had her Hogwarts Monthly article to write on this event. That meant that for the most of the night, Emmaline would be alone looking like Thing One from Dr. Seuss, alone without the matching costume partner. It was the least she could do though. She owned her sister this much. Or at least she tried to keep telling herself as she awkwardly made her way around the Great Hall.
Emmaline loved parties, something she never experienced before Hogwarts. She should be getting used to them, but it was difficult with all the work the staff put into these events. Emmaline wandered aimlessly, hoping River would arrive soon, but definitely not counting on it. She decided to head to the snack table, a place that she would almost always find her sister. Emmaline began to fill a plate with food, wondering if any of her squad would be attending this event. At least that would give her someone to hang out with.
