Glistening white candles floated elegantly high up into the rafters of the towering enchanted stone ceiling, illuminating the midnight sea of stars sparkling and glittering within it. Witches in donned dresses of varying lengths, some choosing to show their height, some preferring to calmly draw in the eye of many an admirer. The young wizards which flooded the hall were also dressed for the occasion, many being in sleek black dress robes, several of wealth in rich crumpled velvets which had obvious family worth, and others opting for a neatly buttoned suit and tie.
It truly was a sea of glamorous and varied styles and colours. As the Ravenclaw boy entered the Great Hall that evening in his attendance of the Yule Ball, he noted the lights, the shadows, the sounds, the dancing. His heart ran dripping with the intoxication of his senses. But it was not simply the mere sight of the vast ocean of waltzing students and staff with captivated his heart so, but most keenly that of his date for the evening.

Adjusting his tidy black dress robes, Lorin waited eagerly for the familiar face to emerge from amidst the crowd. They had, somehow through their shyness, communicated their agreement to meet up at the ball itself, but when Lorin glanced round scanning desperately for the witch, she was nowhere to be found.
She's stood you up, the boy thought glumly as he made his way to the seated area and began to settle himself down for a night of disappointment, you know she is far too beautiful to be seen with a reject like you.
It was just as Lorin had given up all hope of ever seeing the girl again when a sharp tap on the shoulder brought his neck jerking round. And there she stood, just a matter of inches from his turned back, a long luxurious blue dress drifting down her waist and legs, trailing a short distance behind. Her eyes seemed to glisten brighter in the lighting and the ice-white shine of decorations. She still wore her charactered, thick black glasses, and her braces had not disappeared. In fact, she had taken the rather unusual step of enchanting them in colour and tone, so that they matched with the shimmering blues of her outfit and the pinning upholding her hair. The greatest change to her face, however, was the obvious attempt to pluck away the light etchings of her mono-brow, which had now divided into two very definite eyebrows, both of different lengths.

Lorin just beamed. He stood up smartly with a low bow, taking her hand and planting his lips lightly upon it. "I did not think you would be joining me, this evening," Lorin started with a smile, watching the girl blush and blink her great brown eyes at him, "you look.." The words dropped from his mouth and Lorin had to rush to find them, noting the girl seemed to fear something of an insult in the works, "I did not know you were of veela blood."
The girl flushed pink at the comment, her braces twinkling in the light. She awarded him a small curtsy, responding with thanks and corrections as to her blood being that of muggles. This was a fact Lorin was only too aware of, and one which he found no intention in sharing with any member of his family. What he and Eileen had was no business of theirs. Especially after he had faced such rejection by them. No, if there was redemption to be made on his behalf, then he should make it up during his return home.
Again, the Ravenclaw gave a light bow before he addressed the young lady. "Miss Nacey, would you care to dance?"
