This was not Marisol's first time in California with her family, but this was the first time she was excited for this trip because for the first time, Marisol knew someone who lived in California. After sending an owl to Wyatt Finch (she had to admit they were much faster than regular postage mail) she had convinced her parents to let her meet up with her new magical friend and his non-magical family on their trip there. Marisol had been practically unbearable on the plane ride there, literally bouncing in her seat from excitement, and after the initial nerves and awkwardness of the two families meeting and her siblings embarrassing her with their antics, Marisol had finally gotten a moment alone with her Gryffindor friend.
True to her scheming ways, Marisol had begged Wyatt to ask her parents if she could stay with his family for a week. She knew if she asked her own parents, they would tell her no without any hesitation, so she coached Wyatt on exactly how to ask them, using his best assets, his innocently clueless face with those big blue eyes. There was no way her parents could say no to that. Not only would it be cruel to say no to someone else's kid, but Wyatt had blundered his way through their families meeting enough to convince her dad that there was absolutely nothing to worry about with a huge dork like Wyatt and parents like his.
So after Wyatt had asked them, and a reproachful knowing look from her parents to Marisol which told her they knew exactly what she had done, they had reluctantly agreed to let Mari stay with the Finches as long as they were okay with it, which there because they seemed to have been under the impression that Marisol was going to stay with them all along. Which meant that Wyatt had already asked his parents to let her stay, without informing them that she hadn't even asked her own parents. Even if they had said no, Marisol had been prepared to argue, reminding them of the time she got to stay with Asaiah and his family for a week over the Christmas holidays. And although Wyatt didn't have a sister's room in which she could stay in like Asaiah did, the Finches did have a guest room so either way it all worked out. And now Marisol and Wyatt had an entire week of vacation to hang out! No lessons or finals or curfews to keep them apart! She wished she could stay longer but the following week was the week of the full moon so she had to be back home to take her wolfsbane potion. Forgetting about the impending doom of the moon's cycle, Marisol looked over at Wyatt and grinned at him from ear to ear. "So Mr. Finch, what's first on the agenda?" she asked, after all he was the host now.
