Estrella was a bit harried and irritated that Valcan had sent a letter to two recipients; why couldn't he just send a separate one to Sophia? It was almost laughable to think it would be that he was trying to save trees; for some reason, although she did not entirely hate the man he didn't strike her as an environmentalist in any way, shape or form.

She clutched the envelope in her hand, having asked around if anyone had seen Sophia Stark. So far she had been luckless; she had never realized before how entirely big this school was unless she had to find someone.

With Ford spending some quality time in the Brotherhood Sophia had decided to do some reading out of doors. The mustiness of the Dungeons was beginning to make her feel claustrophobic. She sat on the grass with her back against a tree, her right ankle crossed over her left. Sophia's messenger bag sat on the ground beside her and she had a book in her hands which her golden eyes were locked on.

As she flipped a page Sophia looked up and noticed that Estrella was wandering around. She seemed to be looking for something, but Sophia paid her no mind. She simply turned her eyes back on her book and continued to read.

Estrella jumped a bit as her eyes fell suddenly on the person she had been looking for, her expression somewhat flat as she strolled over to Sophia. "Sophia," she stated, handing the letter with the Drage seal on it already pulled off, "It's from Valcan."
Sophia and Estrella,

I hope that you are both doing well in your studies and have sent this letter to remind you of summer break.  Unfortunately, I will not be able to pick the either of you up from the train station when the break begins so I have asked a friend of mine, Edvard, to bring you to the Herrogard.  He will be waiting for you when you both arrive at the station.

Sincerely,
Valcan

Sophia had not expected the interruption from Estrella and looked up at her with narrowed eyes. She took the letter swiftly and read it over before holding it back to Estrella. "Seems fairly unimportant if you ask me," Sophia said blankly and turned her eyes back on her book, hoping Estrella would leave.

Estrella shrugged, taking the letter. "Well, since it was addressed to you also, I figured it would be courteous to allow you to read it anyway, no matter how unimportant it is." She of course as always did not feel very welcome or uncomfortable around Sophia; but that was how it had been since second year, and she had ditched both her and Liz at the Manor, and after that any kind of relationship had seemed to deteriorate. "Pity that he didn't mention anything about what's going to happen either. Even though last time he did say something about-" she stopped herself from saying abilities, "Family traits."

She had the indistinct feeling that Sophia did not want her around at all. In any case, she wouldn't be surprised if she didn't get any type of substantial reply.

Sophia looked up at Estrella, a bit disappointed that she was still there. Does she honestly not know by now that I do not want her company? After letting out a small sigh she set her book face down on her lap.

“What did he say about family traits?” Sophia asked plainly. In truth she did not think Valcan would waste his time training them. And even if he did, Sophia would not take the training without a fight. She did not trust Valcan, and she hated the idea of letting him teach her anything, no matter how much he had to offer her.

Estrella shrugged, put on her guard. She knew that Sophia probably didn't wish to talk to her, but she supposed that she could deal with it. "He hinted at actually teaching something," she replied slowly, "Though why would you care anyways?" Her eyes narrowed a bit, feeling more incredibly unwelcome by the moment. In her opinion, Sophia did not seem to care much about anything.

Sophia rolled her golden eyes. "I do care if a demented Death Eater plans on trying to teach me anything, whether it helps me or not. I wish to learn nothing from him, and it will be nice to know ahead of time what I will be watching out for."

Estrella smirked. "You are a block of ice, aren't you?" Her eyes narrowed at Sophia's exclamation, although she could not deny that there could be truth in her words. "And besides," she replied softly, "How could you even be sure that he is one? I mean, it's a possibility, but nothing has been shown to actually prove it." Estrella was indeed unsure about Valcan, although she did place a lot more trust in him than Sophia did.

At this Sophia could not help but scoff. "A block of ice is an interesting thing to call someone who can set things aflame." She shook her head and swiftly regained her cold look. "I do not trust Valcan, regardless if there is no tangible proof. The fact that when I ran away from my father a Death Eater picked me up and took me straight to Valcan does not bode well to me. He is smooth, I will give him that. But I do not, and will never, trust him. you are a fool if you think he actually cares for you."

"Interesting indeed; but fine and to the point, no?" Estrella sneered, smirking broadly. "Again, you prod at possibilities and dub them proof. But calling me a fool when all you can do is make assumptions?" Her eyes flickered with a cold amusement; part of her wrestled her insides and wanted to pull her back from confrontation, but the other was eager to become engulfed by it. In any case, Sophia's words had hit a little close to home, although she wouldn't give her the satisfaction of really knowing it.

A smirk curled onto Sophia's lips as she took in Estrella and her angry countenance. "What I know is more than assumptions. There is no way Valcan and my father are not in league together. I ran away from my father and was taken rather unconventionally by Thanatos to the Herrogard, where my father was waiting with Valcan. Valcan has no claim on me, regardless if he raised my father or not. He took no interest in me before, why should he care now whether or not my father can handle me? There is more to this than we have, or ever will be told."

Estrella returned to Sophia an equally icy look, shaking her head. "Obviously. But all if you are going to take is the negative, how would you be able to find any positive in the situation? I agree- there has to be more behind it; but sulking instead of attempting to find out what is really going on isn't going to get you anywhere." She shifted where she stood, her lips pursed in a frown. Sophia would never be able to understand why Estrella was putting so much trust in Valcan; could she? At the moment, she had to be able to trust someone; but her options were exceptionally limited and spread out. Why not her grandfather? He was living in a shroud of mystery, yes, but he would have to do more to Estrella to earn any distrust.

Sophia's look hardened and her golden eyes narrowed angrily at Estrella. She picked up the book and set it on the ground before standing, taking a step toward Estrella. Sophia's chin was raised and she looked down her nose at her cousin. The anger was welling up inside of her, but she kept it under control.

"It is amazing how someone can read so much and know so little. If you honestly believe me to be sulking then you must be truly deranged. I am not incapable of seeing the positives of a situation, but just because Valcan has information and knowledge to offer me does not mean I should or will trust him. I cannot do much from here to investigate the situation further, but if you have any suggestions, please, do tell. I would love to know what you would do to try and find out more about your precious grandfather from here."

Estrella did not move an inch as Sophia rose from where she stood, her cousin towering over her by quite a few inches. Her fists clenched at her sides, Estrella raised her chin, a smirk evident in her eyes as she sneered softly, her lips moving in a hiss, "My words may seem deranged to you," she paused for a moment, her voice becoming a bit quieter, "But you seem to be terribly paranoid for one who puts on a show of being calm and controlled."

Her eyes flickered coldly as she added, "Maybe instead of trying to analyze me, you should analyze yourself."

Sophia snarled and her golden eyes flickered, glowing with anger. "I try to keep myself calm so I do not light everything in sight on fire. It would do me no good to be sent away because I am a danger to everyone. I have analyzed myself, more than you know. Perhaps if you did not merely accuse me of things and waste all your energy attempting to defend yourself you might actually learn something true about me." Sophia considered telling Estrella about Shane but saw no reason at the time. What good would it do her to trust something so very secret to someone she did not trust, even if they were cousins and were forced to spend every summer together.

Estrella smirked, her expression mocking as she stepped closer to Sophia, challengingly. She saw no reason to try to curb Sophia's anger; any hope of friendship seemed to be kicked out of the door anyway. "Why, Sophia," she replied in sickly sweet voice, stepping closer and keeping her eyes locked on Sophia's, "Am I making you angry?" Any sense of kindness was lost to Estrella; Sophia had insulted her.

Sophia glared at Estrella as she kept her rage contained, which was taking every ounce of her control. “If you want to live to learn how to use your abilities,” she began in a soft, shaky voice, “I suggest you turn and walk away. Strange as it may seem I do not wish to set your clothes on fire.” In truth Sophia would very much love to see Estrella with her clothes in flames, but she knew that was a bad idea. There were other people outside who would see Estrella on fire and wonder what had happened. Surely Professor Manteia would not hesitate to speak with the Headmistress this time, and Sophia could not afford to be in trouble.

Estrella smirked, gritting her teeth as she stepped closer to Sophia. "Try me," she retorted softly, her jaw taut as she stepped back just a bit. "But no- you would prefer to shy away from the consequences. Frankly, I'm not surprised. Perfect, always correct Sophia wouldn't want to get in trouble with the Professors, now would she?" Her hand had wandered down to her pocket, curling around the handle of her oak wand tightly in case Sophia had the gall to try anything.

Sophia shut her eyes tight as the rage threatened to escape and take the form of fire on Estrella's robes. She took in and released a deep breath, trying with all her will to calm herself. "Yes, that is true," Sophia began, speaking just above a whisper. "But besides that, I do not want to hurt you because I have no choice. If I am to hurt you, I want it to be because I chose to, not because I could not control my anger." Her teeth began to grind as she stood, keeping her eyes closed. Despite her deep breaths the rage was not quelling inside Sophia.

Estrella stepped back, having expected much worse of Sophia. She observed Sophia from the very short distance, her brown eyes softening just a bit. "Would you hurt me, Sophia?" she inquired quietly, a tiny realization creeping into her mind. She herself had any issues with her own ability; to the point where it drove her almost insane; but she recognized that Sophia had to deal with something more taxing. She could seriously hurt someone, kill them even; all in the earliest stages of having her ability, whereas Estrella did not.

Sophia took in and released another slow, shaky breath. "If you are what I see when I open my eyes then it is very possible that you will get hurt. I have never tested Protego against this and I would rather not try and find out now if it works or not."

Estrella pursed her lips a bit as she looked back to Sophia, her cousin holding her eyes squeezed shut. Despite the anger that had welled up inside her, common sense and pity were beginning to sink in. She was not going to leave, but she walked to the left a few paces, replying with a sigh, "You can open your eyes, Sophia." She still clutched her wand, prepared to use it if anything bad happened. As long as she was no longer in her path of sight, she would most likely be okay.

Sophia jerked her eyes open and focused on a flower that immediately burst into flames along with some of the grass around it. She took the rage inside of her and forced it out into the flames, willing it all to leave her system. When Sophia felt as if she had expelled enough of her rage to be safe again she closed closed her eyes and fell to her knees. The fire extinguished, leaving a ring of black char on the ground.

Estrella watched as Sophia's eyes flared open, jumping a bit as a flower that had been in her path before was engulfed in flames. That could have been me, she thought to herself with a slow intake of breath, watching as Sophia collapsed to her knees. Her eyes trailing to the ring of char she murmured softly, "Sophia?" Despite all that she had said a little sense of humanity inside of her wanted to inquire if her cousin was alright. She knew that she couldn't take her words back, and didn't necessarily want to; but she had deliberately egged on Sophia, and was most obviously the cause of destruction, no matter how small it was.
