Saying that Estrella wasn't nervous was like saying that Marie Antoinette had suffered only a light scratch on her neck. She had returned to the nervous habit of nibbling at her nails as she sat in her dorm room, waiting for the inevitable to come. The task before her was daunting and left many insignificant worries pounding in her head. As she tied her hair back into a neat ponytail, she was wondering why she hadn't gotten to sleep earlier. Of course, she had gotten more than enough of it, but every little thing seemed to be putting her back today.
Taking a deep breath as she stepped out of Ravenclaw Common room and into the hallway, she made her way down from the tower to her destination in the Great Hall. Her mouth was set in determination as she passed, greeting no one. She needed her mind about her for this test and the least distractions there were, the better.
She was pleased to find that she was the first who had arrived for the test. Estrella took to smoothing down her robes self-consciously as she waited for the rest of her peers to arrive. She wondered how they felt about the examination before them. Of course there were always other tests, but Estrella was not accustomed to failure. She didn't do things twice, and she didn't want to start.
Despite her nervousness Estrella was eager for the exam to begin, mostly because she wanted it to be done and over with. She was the first to go. The girl cracked her knuckles as she stepped forward, inhaling air through her mouth so intensely as if she were going to plunge underwater. She closed her eyes as she ran over the three D's in her mind. The girl would need all the concentration and luck she could get.
Destination. Determination. Deliberation. With this set of words circulating throughout her mind, Estrella grounded her feet. She took another deep breath as she emptied her mind of any clutter. It was just herself from here on out. It took a deal of concentration, but she managed to imagine that no one was watching her, that this was as natural as anything she had ever done.
She needed to keep her mind on her destination. The Ravenclaw stood on a white line. Her mind filled to the brim with nothing but the black line. She had her first step down.
She was filled with determination to reach her destination. Failing was not an option, and neither was splinching. A slight smile came to her face as she imagined herself, moving fluidly to that spot. One step to go.
At last, deliberation. Without thinking, she turned onto the spot that she had picked. It was her spot, and no one else's. She felt herself slipping into nothing, and arrived with a loud pop on the other side of the room, at exactly where she had intended to go. A wide grin formed on her face, and she couldn't help pumping a fist into the air in victory.
Realizing how dorky she must have looked, a light blush rose to the tips of the Ravenclaw's cheeks. After going through the three D's once more, but a little more quickly this time, she managed to return to the white line. With a wide, hopefully winning smile at the instructor, she stepped back. She hadn't splinched herself, and she had gotten everything right. Her eyes were bright as she waited to hear what the instructor had to say. She could only go forward from here.
