Apparition,6,7Irene Finch had specifically asked for the tables to be left in place for the exam. If the sixth years were going to be licensed, then they would need to possess the ability to work with their surroundings. Apparating across an empty room was convenient for beginners to practice, but the chances of apparating to a truly empty space were going to be slim to none in the real world. There'd be tree filled forests, garbage strewn alleys, and perhaps, when they were lucky, the occasional field or valley. This would be an especially important test for those students who were interested in careers in the Ministry as apparating was a requirement for many of the positions. It was an important skill, allowing independence of movement.

Certain that she was prepared, Irene stepped out to greet the students who were waiting just outside the Great Hall. The students were seated on the benches that had been provided to await their turn. "Good afternoon" she greeted, her icy blue eyes taking them in one by one. "In a moment, I'll begin calling you in alphabetically by your last name. Once I do, I'll ask you to apparate to a spot in the room. You will only get one shot. I will not pass you if even a hair, button, or shoelace remains where you once stood." Irene's gaze drifted by one student in particular. Irene let them sit with that for a moment, wanting it to be clear because she hated the annoying begging for another chance that came when a student failed. She looked at their faces, wondering which ones she would be seeing in the courses that were provided by the Ministry throughout the year. Many people failed the exam on their first try, but the woman did nothing to reassure the students of this fact.

Stepping back into the room, where her clipboard was already charmed to take notes, Irene glanced at the list and then called the first student forward. Once the student was inside, Irene shut the door tightly and began the exam.

Roleplay your character's attempt to apparate to a point in the room. Don't forget that the Great Hall would look as it would on a regular day minus the students. :p

You will get an exam grade of A or T depending on whether you roleplay your character succeeding or failing. Extra credit will be given for the level of detail in your roleplay regardless of passing or failing. Feel free to godmod Irene if it is necessary to your roleplay. If you have any questions, PM me. No replies will be accepted beyond Wednesday, December 6.

Theo was nervous for this exam, and it was the only exam he was actually nervous for in this year of exams, everything else he was sure he had. Everything else he was sure he could manage. This was the big one. The exam that helped define him as an adult wizard. He'd be able to go where he wanted when he wanted. He would have the freedom and the world at his feet. So, Tholomyes was visibly nervous. He'd managed it in the last two classes but this was an exam, and so of course that would make him a hundred times more nervous and far more likely to fail. The prefect was outside the great hall with the rest of the sixth year class about to sit this test and he listened to the brief instruction, the fact they weren't allowed anything out of place was a little crazy to him. But they had to get this right.

The boy waited until it was finally his turn and he walked to the spot the professor indicated was for him to go from. He glanced around the still mostly filled room, it was odd to see it so filled with stuff and yet completely devoid of students and he wondered how different this was to apparating with nothing in front of oneself. Regardless, the teen looked up at the teacher as she instructed him on where he needed to apparate to. The boy nodded in confirmation, focusing himself, his mind to where he was supposed to go. Noting all the things behind him and that location. He called up what they'd learned in the class. The three D's, he let his mind focus on his destination, he filled himself with determination and leaned into the pull. He felt the usual feeling and then was at the mark. He was glad to have not missed it and took the time to check himself over, nothing to him seemed out of place. It was all where it should be, he felt happy with this, he'd managed it!

This was the only thing Rome had been looking forward to in Hogwarts since she'd arrived at the school. It was the last true test of her magic, the NEWTs afterwards didn't matter to her at all. She just needed to be able to do this, and then if she even came back to hogwarts was another matter. Well, no, she was certain that her twin would drive her back to Hogwarts for that final year, but she thought wishfully about just not doing it. The girl was sat at the entrance to the great hall with the rest of the students from her year. She knew that like her this was probably the only exam most cared about. To Rome it was literally one of the only important things the school taught her, but given that she didn't really like school at all, it wasn't really a ringing endorsement. Rome listened to the introduction given by the professor, nodding easily along with it and just being impatient about getting started.

It was therefore a pity that her surname was Savage and therefore she was pretty near the bottom of that list. She was however eventually called in and she kept her expression neutral, trying to not appear too displeased or bitter. She listened to where the woman wanted her to go and then focused solely on that. Ignoring her and reminding herself of how important it was that she pass this first time. The girl had her wand in hand, and she was focusing herself on the spot she needed to go to. She knew that given how determined she was to pass that she could do this, but that it would require her to concentrate a little more than normal. To really focus her energy upon something. No Finch was going to not let her get something she wanted again. The teen felt the pull and leaned into it. Knowing that as she still practiced this was a vital part of it. As she got better, it would come more fluidly. The moment it all stop she glanced around her and realised she'd managed it. The girl didn't feel like anything was missing, and a quick check confirmed it, she'd managed to apparate and that meant this woman had to pass her.

As Matthew headed into the Great Hall, he thought for a moment he had the wrong date or time for the exam as the tables were still in place. But he quickly spotted the ...professor? Ministry lady? He wasn't sure what to refer her as. He wondered if it would be harder to apparate with the tables and benches there. Probably, as he couldn't see another reason for them to keep them in their places. He sighed, taking a deep breath to calm himself. He could do this. Not for the first time in his life he wished his last name wasn't 'Harper', maybe 'Zarper' had a nicer ring to it anyway. He waited nervously until it was his turn, hoping that none of his buttons were particularly loose today.

When his name was called and he was told where to apparate, he took another deep breath and focused on the three D's, he focused on the destination, stayed determined and focused all his attention on where he had to go. He felt a similar senstation as he had in the last lesson, and when he opened his eyes he was at the mark. He sighed in relief, counted his buttons and looked at his shoelaces. But it seemed like everything was there. He found it hard to believe he had managed it in one go, but the evidence was right in front of him. He grinned widely, happy to be able to do this now.

It was finally here, the exam that would determine whether Dan would get his license to be able to apparate or not. Hopefully all would go smoothly and he took a deep breath as he waited to be called. It seemed like forever, but eventually he heard his name being called, and he entered the great hall, hands in his pockets as he took in his surroundings briefly. The woman has been very specific about them passing and Daniel was determined not to fail. He had been successful last lesson and although some of his classmates had achieved more than he had during this course, the Slytherin Prefect had faith that he'd do well. He listened to the older woman as she instructed him where she wanted him to apparate and Daniel narrowed his gaze to that one spot, then he took his hands out of his pockets. He could do this.

Daniel now stood at the end of the Great Hall, a little far from the spot, but it wasn't as bad as it could be. He could've been further. He took another breath, then forced himself to clear his mind. He closed his eyes, taking a moment to think shout the three Ds, and before he knew it he felt a tug in his stomach. He didn't dare to open his eyes as he thought about the exact spot where he wanted to appear again - the details included. It was a few minutes later that he opened his eyes, feeling secure. He smiled as he noticed he was a few millimetres away from the spot where he had meant to apparate. For Dan, it was really good, though it was up to the woman whether she passed him. But the sixth year felt pretty good about it.

She could do this. Izzy felt a little nervous, she knew she had to be focused for this and she sincerely hoped that she would be able to apparate because if she couldn't then she probably wouldn't even mention the exam to her father or any of her friends. Well, maybe Liv. She knew she could trust Liv. Besides failing was embarrassing. No matter how rare it was to pass perfectly well in apparition or how many people didn't pass, Isabelle needed this. Unfortunately she couldn't get it over and done with as her surname was somewhere in the middle of the alphabet. Finally she was called, and Izzy entered the room and the door closed behind her. She took deep breaths as she listened intently to the woman, confirming her spot of apparition that would determine her fate. Thankfully, however, it wasn't as far as she'd imagined.

She went to stand in her spot, which was between the Gryffindor and Hufflepuff tables and when she felt like she was ready to apparate Isabelle tried to clear her mind of everything, including the fact that this was an exam and that they only had the first try. She imagined everything necessarily, the three D's, the feeling of apparating as well as the awareness of her surroundings and where she needed to apparate to. She forced herself not to panic as at first nothing happened, but to her relief, she felt the familiar sensation after a couple of minutes. Then, when she opened her eyes again she grinned. She had been a few centimetres away, but then again it wasn't so bad. Izzy wondered whether she could've done better but immediately pushed that thought away, she had to think positively if she wanted to apparate in future instead of taking public transport. She waited until the woman was done with her before she thanked her and left the room so that the next student could do the exam.

Al had been surprisingly optimistic these past couple of weeks as the semester was almost over and the Hufflepuff was almost done with his sixth year. He was finally able not to sulk about magic anymore like he used to and he was actually beginning to socialise a lot more. This did not however ease the nerves he was feeling as he arrived to the great hall and the ministry woman talked to them about the exam and what was to happen. Alessio's surname was early in the alphabet which meant that he would be one of the first people to do the apparition exam. He didn't have to wait long, and when he was called, the puff entered the room and he pursed his lips. He listened to what the woman had to say - he still did not know what to refer to her as - and then, when she was done, he stood close to one of the house tables. The fact that there were objects in the room now wasn't the really all that encouraging to the boy. Still, he tried not to dwell on it too much.

He took a deep breath to relax his mind and his body and closed his eyes, concentrating only on the three D's, he felt determined enough to apparate to his destination which was important. He imagined clearly where he needed to be after he apparated. Splinching was definitely not going to be an option. Alessio didn't lose concentration and once he felt that it was okay to open his eyes, he did so, feeling that the world had stopped spinning. He blinked once, then grinned, he had done it! Right on the area where he had been told to appear. Alessio felt happy, he had done a lot better than he had expected and that meant that he has to pass, he just had to. Al hoped he would be able to apparate in future and that he didn't have to go to the ministry to do this again. Besides, apparating was a hundred times, if not more, better than using a portkey.

Amy had no idea how to feel about the apparition exam that would take place now, and she arrived to the Great Hall where everyone else was waiting. Her brother was already there so Amy went to sit down on the bench next to him, and saved a spot for one of her friends as they arrived, whoever came first. She listened when the woman came out of the room and told the sixth years what they needed to do, it would be in alphabetical order. Amy waited a little impatiently for her turn, not saying anything, not even to her twin, and when her name was called her eyes briefly met her brother's and with a reassuring nod and a small smile in his direction the blonde disappeared through the door. She took a moment to compose herself, to prep herself before she would attempt to apparate. When she knew where to apparate, Amy stood in a corner of the room that wasn't close at all to where she needed to reappear though hopefully that would not be that big of an issue, she knew she could do this.

She imagined where she needed to apparate - which was literally or more or less directly in front of the staff table to the far left of the Great Hall, and she willed her entire self to appear there safe and sound. After what felt like hours she felt a tug in her stomach and the world begin to spin. Amy opened her eyes just in time to see herself disappear, it was an odd sensation, she saw nothing, then before she could fully grasp her surroundings it all stopped. She no longer felt dizzy and she blinked to make sure she was in the right area of the room. She smiled, a little warily at first but her concentration must have done the trick. Overall Amy thought that she took slightly longer to apparate than normal, however there has been no splinching at least. So she was glad that when she was done and had thanked the woman, she could breathe again and leave the Great Hall. She didn't exactly want to do the exam more than once.

Maddie took a deep breath, today was the day of the Apparition Exams and she was extremely nervous. Despite managing to successfully apparate during the last practice lesson she knew that this exam was really important, perhaps more important than some of the subjects that she was taking. She waited for her name to be called, which seemed to take such a long time (her last name beginning with a W), but she used the time to remember the three D's.

Her name was soon called and she shuffled into the Great Hall and she saw that it was as it always was; the tables and benches had not been moved out of the way for her this time. She gulped as she continued to walk further into the room and stood where she was told to. She exhaled and chanted the three D's in her mind until she was interrupted by the examiner who instructed her to apparate to the other end of the hall, just past the headmistress's chair. Maddie closed her eyes and tried to picture the destination and thought incredibly hard about appearing there. She kept her eyes closed throughout the duration and only opened them when she felt that familiar (but horrible) feeling leave her body. She slowly peeled her eyes open and cautiously looked around and she was relieved to see that her whole body had moved across the room in one piece and in the correct place. She quickly glanced at the examiner and smiled a little before leaving the room for the next person to take their Apparition Exam.

Charlotte was a bit nervous about her apparition exam, but she was positive that it would turn out fine. After all, apparition was a hard concept, especially for someone of her age, and so no matter how well she did she knew it would be just fine. As the girl made it she noticed all of the nervous faces around her and this made her frown, not liking the idea of everyone being nervous as it just made her even more so. However, she tried to ignore this as she waited for her name to be called.

It didn't take long before Charlotte's name was called and the girl stepped into the Great Hall with a confident smile on her face. Despite this, she was unsure if she would successfully do it and stood where she was told to, saying the three D's over and over again in her head. When she was told to apparate across the room she closed her eyes and took a deep breath, imagining her apparating over there successfully. She could feel her palms begin to sweat and balled her hands into a fist, concentrating hard. The girl still had her eyes closed once she had apparated, not having realised she did so until she opened her eyes again and noticed she wasn't where she was before. Beaming, Charlotte left the Great Hall with an even bigger smile on her face, proud that she had successfully passed the exam.
